According to an official press release from David Michaels, NATAS Senior Executive for the Daytime Emmy Awards: “The Pre-Nomination voting phase of the 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Entertainment Awards begins Wednesday, January 30th. Ballots will be sent to qualified performers who are members of NATAS or ATAS (Academy of Television Arts & Sciences). This voting will result in determining the 10 performers who will move forward to the Blue Ribbon judging round in the Daytime Drama categories for Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress.

This year, there will be no Pre-Nomination round for the categories of Younger Actor and Younger Actress, encompassing Daytime Drama Actors who are aged 25 or below. The entrants in these two categories will proceed as entrants to the Blue Ribbon Judging round.

Just in case you are confused by the current Daytime Emmy rules; performers submitted a clip of up to 3 minutes of a continuous scene in which they will be judged on during the pre-nom round. If the scene is continued from act to act in one episode, the performer is allowed to have the submission dip down and come up from black.

IMO overreaching like Doug Davidson, Joe Mascolo, and CLB isn't nearly as bad as Scott Clifton the #1 star with the most airtime on B&B being in Supporting. That is really unfair. The people who overreach only hurt themselves. But yeah Joe Mascolo isn't going to even get a pre-nom, but the weakness of this list might allow Galen Gering to somehow sneak into a pre-nom, which will show exactly how far this show has fallen. I'm wondering if OLTL collectively decided not to submit. That's really unfortunate if so because they had some of the best possible material and these lists would look a lot more respectable.

No Eric Braeden or James Scott? No Peter Reckell? Not saying any would win, but these are regulars. DAYS really disappoints me with their lack of submissions.
JS said he decided not to submit this year because he didn't think he had anything that was Emmy caliber.

Can someone remind me what Rafe's storylines were last year - and what the emmy scenes would have been for?

I can remember loving carrie, finding out about griefsex and subsequent confrontation , safehouse, holding Nicole's hand through pregnancy.

Actors submit themselves and choose their own category. Its all messed up this year, but this part of the list has never leaked before so we usually don't get to see this clusterfuck. Michael Muhney leaked this on his own. We usually don't hear anything (unless the actors tell us themselves) until the pre-nominations are released. Both of those list will be narrowed to 10. Then 5 for the real nominations.
I obviously can't say for sure, but I don't think the actors so much "choose" their category as that they're pressured into one.

Gering and Christian? LMAO.
Surely on a time on screen basis both Gering and Christian are lead actors - at least it feels that way to me.

Although I have the same problem with Christian as I do with Gering - I can't remember any really standout scenes.

I heard GG submitted the grief sex reveal scenes.

On what planet is Joe Mascolo a lead actor on Days of Our Lives? This award show...
The actors choose what category to submit in.

The only ones that can't choose are actors under 25, who must submit in the Younger categories.

lol I can understand that, but that didn't stop anyone else. Judging from that list he would have easily gotten a pre-nomination just from submitting nearly anything. Ron Moss? Galen Gering? This is like a soap opera version of the Razzies.

Wow! Really? If anything JS had a lot of airtime and was heavy in story. Way to bite the hand that feeds you. At least Gering and Christian had the idea to submit.

I think Vaughn could have a shot at a pre-nom partially because he's been on three soaps (Y&R, GH, and Days) and presumably has worked with/personally knows more people who are voting. (That isn't to say he didn't have some good scenes last year, the Congo stuff in particular). Or did they change how they vote?

I agree the shows probably do some nudging, but this looks like an all out clusterfuck. Y&R cannot want Doug Davidson, Michael Muhney, Peter Bergman, and Christian LeBlanc going head-to-head. They should be split MM and PB in lead. CLB and DD in Supporting. Billy Miller could have went either way. I think Supporting Actor was Doug Davidson's to win this year and he blew it going for Lead. As far as DAYS they probably did tell Joe Mascolo to go for Lead because James Scott is the only real male lead and he decided not to submit. I'm disappointed in everything so far. Hopefully the ladies can save the day because this is looking ugly right now.

Some actors may just not want to participate in the campaigning that seems to be necessary for an Emmy nomination and win.

It actually seems like the people that campaign lose out. Like Michael Muhney. He goes hard at the Emmy and he isn't shy about it. He also lead the Emmy voting reform. Having friends used to get you an Emmy. Now it seems like you have to at least have some decent work to get to that final nomination, but there will always be a little bit of friendships getting involved. Y&R always seems to have the voting edge to me, but I think that show actually cares about Emmys more than every other show put together.

Oh and if James Scott couldn't do anything with all the material that was thrown at him last year there's not much hope for him.

I doubt he's going to get another year where his betrayal is exposed, he blackmails a young boy, his sister dies, he's told his father is not his father, he attempts to kill his father, his father is killed, he's blamed for the death of his father when he's innocent, his ex-wife keeps a baby from him, his ex-wife looses baby and goes a bit pycho, he goes on the run with the love of his life after dangling off a cat walk. he finds out his dead dad isn't dead.

Concerned, I get what you are saying. Who is he criticizing here? The writers or himself? I like JS in general but even though we can sit here and criticize the writing and the show, these people put money in his pocket every week.

LOL. It doesn't really matter to me WHO put him in that category. He just clearly doesn't belong there.

I should've read closer, Jason answered my question.

That explains why a couple that are there were making me scratch my head.
