||Considering where this show was this time last year I'm shocked the ratings aren't better this year.|
|lovinsafe||May 17 2013, 09:42 AM Post #3|
||WOW look at GH best daytime soap there is always something new and exciting happening in PC! Great job…|

||GH has been boring ass hell lately.|

||For an ordinary week, I would say these ratings are ok, but for a sweeps week..meh. They couldn't even muster one 2.0 and it wasn't a Dannifer heavy week either.|

♥ Goodbye Will ♥
GH has been a bit boring this past week and the Chew crap didn't help but what I find with GH is that they TRY to feature as many characters/stories on any given day to please a good portion of it's audience and the stories are broken up where I don't get to see the same characters/stories on every day, I like that. They have a lot going on....as opposed to Days who has 4 stories revolving around each other, featuring the same characters and the story rarely moves at a pace that keeps me interested. The vets have nothing to do, are rarely on and the stories don't focus around them. Where on GH you have the likes of Tracy in the middle of a story.... Also I might not like Tracy or Dante but I think the stories that feature them are good, I think this is where Days needs to learn. I might not like Ej or Dan but give me something to watch if I don't like them. As of now, I get nothing
With Days these ratings prove that in reality the show isn't any better than it was this time last year...it's stagnant and that is never good.

They are up 5% in W18-49 year on year while all the others are down. That's all that counts for TPTB.

This article from Daytime Confidential quotes a Broadcasting & Cable report on soaps that says Days is down 14% in the 18-49 and 18-34 for the season.

The problem with Days is always been bad writing. Too much Sammy/EJ or Daniel/Jennifer. Now the envelope was sent and yet not one adult has found it or questioned Ciara why it makes her so upset. Now its in Johnny hands, :wtf:
They killed Nicole/Vargas pairing for no apparent reason. :shame:
GH is taking too long to reveal RH character.

Informative article. Thanks for posting that link.

That article is misleading. The season to date numbers include Live + 7 day DVR numbers. GH seems to rise much more in that measure relative to its live + same day DVR viewing number compared to other soaps. Advertsing rates are set on 18-49 (adults for primetime and women for daytime it seems) C+3 ratings. C+3 ratings are the viewership totals for commercials that air during a show and watched within 3 days of the original viewing. The public almost never get to see C+3 numbers but it is felt that Live + same day 18-49 is a good proxy for it. Where do you see they are up 5% year on year in that demo? From what I see they are the same or down on the demos from this time last year
|Southofsoap||May 17 2013, 07:41 PM Post #13|
+32000/576000 = 5.56% increase so with rounding it's actually a 6% increase - my bad

||A month ago, GH was better & DAYS was boring. Now, DAYS is slightly better & GH is boring so far. IMO|

And they had so much potential too.

Varcole had cool chemistry and who knows....they may go back there again. But I'm loving Nicole and Eric's slow burn personally!
These ratings are pretty much what I thought they would be. I'm hoping Days sees a spike on the next round because it's been very good lately and the upcoming weeks look fantastic! I wish they would hold this type of momentum all year. But we also know a big spike one week means a big fall the next and then it's back to a few ups, a few downs, up, down, steady, down, up, steady, etc. Until these shows no longer make money in the eye of whoever is in charge, we are all fine.

||I hope GH & DAYS continue to go up!|
|outrageous||May 18 2013, 05:44 PM Post #18|
I think they should somehow start counting PVRs if possible. IMO it's only a matter of time until all daytime soaps are going to be cancelled. There are less and less people staying at home during the day to watch them and they just record them instead. The numbers of viewers are naturally going to be gradually dwindling. With summer approaching and the weather getting better people will be outdoors, so we can expect the ratings to drop.
All in all, they seem good to me, and unfortunately I don't see Days ever getting to be number one, no matter how good their storylines are going to get.

I didn't watch any of those four soaps in that tracking period. Was still trying to get caught up on All My Children and One Life to Live
Hard to believe that just four short years ago I was juggling All My Children, As the World Turns, General Hospital, Guiding Light, One Life to Live and Young and the Restless. Six soaps for seventeen years.

Maura West has been the only good thing to come out of this clusterfuck with character recasts for the exOLTL folks.
I think GH will continue to sink under these storylines.
