According to Soap Opera Digest, B&B is looking for a well-known actress to play the role of Fern, a 50 to 55 year old African American woman. She’s loud, outspoken. A Diva. She is a force to be reckoned with. Comic timing is a must. This will start recurring with the possibility of a contract.

Hey maybe Victoria Rowell should try out for this role.
She is already playing it in real life. In fact she wouldn't even need an audition.
Brad Bell just need to listen to her interviews or read her blog/Facebook/tweets.
Unfortunately, he may not get the comic part though.
I didn't notice your post until after I posted my comments. But you are right on the mark.

I doubt it, since VR has been banned from the CBS sets.
Interesting, it sounds like a AA version of Jackie Marone, IMO.
