WINTER OLYMPICS SCHEDULE RELEASED..."DAYS" HAS JUST ONE PREEMPTION The Winter Olympics schedule has just been released. "Days of Our Lives" will be preempted just once, on Thursday, February 20, 2014. The Winter Olympics will be airing from 3PM-5PM ET/PT and 2PM-4PM CT/MT for the rest of the two weeks, so there may be some time slot shifting if "Days" airs during those time frames in your local market. Unlike last year's 2-week hiatus for the Summer Olympics, this time around "Days" will only be off for one day. http://www.jason47.com |

It sounds like they aren't going to broadcast many events live, unless they're doing so on their other channels. (I realize that you haven't included the primetime coverage in this, but that won't be live either, due to the time difference.) That's disappointing, but not surprising. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Winter Olympics (especially since they've added snowboard slopestyle, skiing slopestyle, and skiing halfpipe to the competition), and it's good to know that it won't affect Days much. (But if they ship a few characters off for a few weeks and claim that they are attending the events, I won't complain. I'll volunteer E.J., Nick [who would fit in well there, given his attitude toward gay people], and Eric for the trip as a start, and I'm sure that others here will want to include Daniel as well. My picks don't have to ever return, actually.) Thanks, Jason! |

So, just like with the Summer Olympics, NBC is opting to broadcast an edited version of the day's events in prime time, rather than to broadcast the events live. This is great for Days, but looking at the broader picture, I must say I don't quite see the logic behind NBC's decision. The time difference between Sochi and NYC is 8 hours. There are some events that will take place in the afternoon in Sochi, e.g. figure skating. If the competition starts in Sochi at, say, 6 p.m., that will be 10 a.m. on the east coast in the US. So, why not broadcast live? People will be awake and could watch. |

It may be to draw in bigger ratings for the Olympics, there are a lot of people at work at 10:00am during the week that wouldn't be tuning in, that might otherwise in the evening. |

The NBC Sports Network will be offering live daytime coverage. Perhaps some of the other NBC cable channels too. |

They will do what they always do. They will show some events live, but hold the "marquee" events until prime time, where it will be heavily edited and filled with fluffy stories about the athletes. Meanwhile, plenty of people will be watching full coverage of the actual events live via P2P sites online or YouTube clips. In 2006, I flew to Torino during the men's long program. During a layover in Chicago, I watched most of the event hours before it aired on U.S. television. And pretty much every other country's coverage is the far superior to listening to NBC. (The British Eurosport commentators are hysterical, but I will take not understanding Chinese or Russian announcers any day over Scott Hamilton's screeching.) |

I agree completely. I'll never forget how NBC edited the women's team all-around gymnastics finals. It was something I had previously thought was only done on reality shows. |

NBC will have a good excuse to show limited coverage of the Winter Olympics because unless Russia repeals their anti-gay propaganda law athletes and news agencies from several countries will boycott it. |

I get that, which is why, as I said before, I'm not really surprised. However, I do find it odd that they won't be showing any events live on their main channel, NBC -- the one that they can be most certain that every person with a television can access. It's a questionable decision, to say the least. |

7AM live broadcasts for half the country on the west coast? Ratings would be in the dozens. Even 10AM in the East would mean a few thousand viewers, not the millions that primetime offers. NBC has always packaged the Olympics for primetime, so I'm not all that surprised. I **am** surprised that DOOL is going to air at all. I am actually shocked. I think this is a good sign for the show's renewal for Year 50. Then again, there's also always the chance that NBC will hand that hour back to the affiliates so that they can show the syndicated fare that the NBC coverage is pre-empting. It usually airs during the Olympics. Last year's Summer Olympics and Summer 2004 were the only times the show was completely pre-empted. This is pretty typical for the Winter Olympics. |

I've seen a few recent posts here and there (inside other threads) announcing various local city schedule adjustments -- for example: the show being aired but at a different time locally, or (another example): the cable feed being on a different network cable feed for Days during the Olympics. These posts I saw were just announcements for specific local cities. Wondering if it's appropriate to post those here? Or would local-city announcements just confuse everyone? Separate question: If there is info that would affect an entire timezone, should that be posted here? (I honestly don't know the rules for this sort of thing) Or maybe each of us should take our own precautions to check our local listings and plan ahead ... |

Pretty dumb move in a Top 25 market....... St Louis Station Bumps DOOL http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/television/gail-pennington/ksdk-will-bump-days-of-our-lives-during-olympics/article_9bf1dbb7-d1f1-542c-9163-eca4a96bf9ce.html ....NBC won't preempt "Days of Our Lives" -- its only remaining daytime drama, just renewed for two more years -- during the Winter Olympics, beginning Thursday in Sochi, Russia. NBC will air two hours of weekday coverage 2-4 p.m. the weeks of Feb. 10 and Feb. 17, but only the Feb. 20 episode of "DOOL" won't be broadcast. But KSDK (Channel 5) runs "DOOL" during that two-hour window, so the station has opted to bump the show to its digital channel, 5.2. Antenna users get that channel; so do Charter cable subscribers. But people with AT&T's U-verse, Dish Network and DirecTV don't get any of the local stations' digital sub-channels, so they're out of luck...... Edited by dooldooldool, Feb 9 2014, 05:21 PM.

Great idea - let's continue to post individual market changes here. Jason's posted some on his FB: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=362747073867573&set=a.137903969685219.33031.137323003076649&type=1&stream_ref=10 KXAS (Dallas/Forth Worth): "Days" will be airing at 11AM. KUSA (Denver): "Days" will be airing in its regular 2PM time slot, but will be airing on a different channel, Channel 20 (KTVD). WNBC (New York City): "Days" will be airing at Noon. WPXI (Pittsburgh): "Days" will be airing at 1PM. KDSK (St. Louis): "Days" will be airing at 6PM on a different channel than usual. "Days" will be airing on Channel 5.2, one of the digital feeds of its local affiliate. |

I know in LA (KNBC) Days will be airing at noon. DVRs should automatically adjust. |

note time change for St.Louis (the following was on another thread, so I'm copy/pasting it here)
Like Jason already said ... there is *no* Feb 20th DOOL episode being broadcast anywhere, so nobody will miss anything that day. |

I live in the Washington, DC area and Days was shown an hour early (12-1 instead of 1-2) today. Not sure if this time adjustment will be for the entire two weeks, barring the 20th preemption. |
