Just a few comments about today's fun show. First off, Abigail is an uptight, prudish moron. Chad lied to Cameron, not to her. Cameron thought so little of her that he dumped her while Chad went out of his way to win her over without ever being dishonest with her. She is setting herself up for a lifetime of disappointment and loneliness if she applies this sort of outrage to her future relationships.
Abigail is not the only Horton in Salem who was a moron today, so was Will. If I am on the verge of a custody fight and I have someone like Sami on my side, I am going to accept her assistance instantly as there are few people who have more first hand experience with such matters and who will do anything to win - even if it means being creative and playing dirty. While it may be admirable for Will to fight his own battles, he would be a fool for not consulting with his mother. He also should talk to Lucas and Kate as they are not exactly strangers to this sort of thing.
Victor was back with more great lines today, particularly his Crimestoppers crack. JA must have a blast when he reads his scripts for the first time as his dialogue is always so much fun.
Glad to see Anne in bitch mode again. I love the brand of turmoil she brings to an otherwise very bland and uninteresting set of characters.
And let's not forget Austin who has been (drum-roll please) a jazz pianist, a bookie, a boxer, a graduate student, the host of a talk show with Jennifer (that was all in his first year, btw), the inventor of a non-gas car and a forensic accountant. You go, multi-careered-Austin.
"Professor Austin" just irked me so much when he was trying to learn how to work the computer system. I teach at a college, primarily online courses, and they never just turn people loose in the system without making them take workshops or without help from the distance learning or tech department. (I'm thinking he was teaching a partially online course, since that specific thing pissed me off so much.)
I know, I know. Demonic possession, back from the dead, magical identical quintuplets, alien children, lost egg babies, etc., etc., and I'm hung up on a small detail. :)
As for sexual assault and abuse, that has hardly disappeared from the show. Sami was raped, Nicole was forced to do porn by her stepfather, we recently had Chloe being forced into prostitution, Stephanie was raped. Gabi will soon be attacked by Nick. And I hardly find it a sign of progress that the women are now doing the raping, e.g., Sami raping Austin and Kristen raping Eric.
Marlena was raped by Kellam Chandler, Kristen raped John in Paris with a hypnotic mirror, EJ raped Sami.
Here is Marlena's rape. It's considered tame by today's standards but you can still see how violent and cruel it was and poor Marlena trying to deal with the aftermath. Deidre was amazing in these scenes!
Here is the scene after John has been brainwashed with the hypnotic mirror by Kristen. This is considered a form of rape. John didn't give his consent, he wasn't in his right mind. This proves how pathetic Kristen really was.
This is the reason I could never accept EJami as a couple. This is not something you can just sweep under the rug, plain and simple.
Finally watched the show. All and all, it was a great episode.
Eric ~ poor Father Hottie, I just want to hug him.
Nicole ~ Every male friend doesn't have to be a friend with benefits. Stop. Also, I didn't like her interaction with Eric. She came off as sarcastic. I know she's entitled to be angry and hurt but that was so unnecessary.
Victor ~ douchiest-douche-who-ever-lived! Why is he treating Marlena like she's an enemy? I get it, he's Mr. heartless, but why can't he show little kindness to the woman who raised his dumb grandson? Why is he being so unnecessarily nasty? I don't get it.
WilSon ~ I am so glad it was not an OTT angst. I really liked Will being assertive and telling Sami to stay away. Although, this is Sami we're talking about, she'll interfere and make everything worse.
Marlena ~ the way she lifted her hand made it seem the slap was so strong yet landing was soft. I was really looking forward to the confrontation with Victor, I wanted her to tear him limb from limb, but it was meh.
I feel like "defrocked" will be next year's "flashdrive".
only "defrocked" is 1000x sexier than "flashdrive". lol. (and i'm definitely gonna need Ciara's views on Father Eric's temporary defrocking. lol. writers, i hope you're not gonna disappoint me! ;) )
Well, since the whole flower-girl-at-Kristen's-wedding thing fell through, maybe Eric getting a step closer to marrying her will be a good consolation. :)
And defrocked sounds super-sexy. I think I'm conflating "defrocked" and "unclothed" or "de-pantsed." Or "naked and rumpled and ready for action."
See you all at the gate.
I'll bring Dr. Pepper for us. Big Gulp, of course.
This is the sort of thing that makes me love Days: the chance to use the word "defrocked." Just like when I had the chance to use the word defenestration in reference to Emilio's death.
Women being "focused" on getting a particular man is a staple of soaps. I get that. It's can get annoying, the same way that having every man who enters the zip code fall madly in love with, say Reva on Guiding Light, gets annoying.
I don't find Sami as a cosmetics executive all that outrageous given that this is Salem and the whole town should be doing serious jail time. This is the same place where Lexie went from being a police officer to being a full-on doctor without any hint of medical school or a medical internship. The same place where Kim Brady Donovan - hooking, multi-personality, man-killing, brother-shooting Kim - was a therapist. I loved Lexie and Kim but really? I also can't imagine anyone trusting their psychological well-being to Satan's former vessel but darn it, Mar's the only psychiatrist in Salem and this town NEEDS one.
The only character I find even vaguely believable in their profession is Eric. I could totally understand why he'd want to avoid marriage after growing up in Salem.
Kim being a therapist is not a stretch. I work in the mental health and addictions field and I know a lot of social workers with lived experience. Of course they did all the required training.
See THAT is the question: is it a legitimate offer? I'm leaning towards yes, because after Nick submitted Gabi's "story" online, he wasn't getting any positive responses. He then changed his tactic and contacted the an agency himself. He pretended to be Lucas Horton, Executive, looking to rehire "Gabriella" exclusively for Kate's cosmetics firm. It's after this, that Gabi received the e-mail offer from sparkle. So, I'm guessing the reason the modeling agency, is giving Gabi the fairy tale contact is because they believe she's going to bring in a boat load of cash as THE model for Kate's cosmetic company
But why spend all the money on relocating her to New York when the cosmetic agency that supposedly wants her is located in Salem? It would be cheaper for them. I know this is a soap and we should not expect anything resembling reality but no agency will spend that much money on someone without any national name recognition. I agree with Carly that this whole thing might be Nick's work. He did not seem surprised about how generous the contract was. He looked like someone who was trying to act surprised. Also, maybe that's why Nick panics and attacks Gabi when she backs down. Maybe he spent too much money and is running out of options.
Because once she's finished modeling for Kate's company in Salem, then they are going to try her out for bigger things in NYC. IIRC, that's the gist of what the lady from sparkle told Gabi. As to Nick not seeming surprised, I'm sure he's been back in contact w/ the agency pretending to be Lucas pushing for them to fill his cosmetics company's needs by doing whatever it takes. Besides, the Sparkle rep. specifically mentioned reading Gabi's story [that's posted on line]. She knew exactly what it would take - contract wise - to secure what she believes will be a cash cow. As for reality, I learned a long time to not get bogged down in the writers' employment of artistic license.
But they could've started her in Salem before making all that investment on someone who they haven't even met. I still think this whole thing was engineered by Nick. He made it all happen. The agency is real but he made up the contract and hired an actress to meet with Gabi. I think his whole goal is to get Gabi away from WilSon's influance as soon as possible so he concocted this elaborate plan.
"Will's successful with his writing" Sonny, he just got invited to ONE conference. Sit your ass down
I will consider Will "successful" when he writes an actual book and it gets published. Right now he wrote an essay that was chosen to be published in some literary publication. Or I would consider him a success if he got a job writing for a film or television project. Hey, maybe Days of our Lives could hire him as a scriptwriter.
LOL great line from Ali about the fantasy world contract. How appropriate.
I'm starting to wonder if the modeling job is just a ruse set up by Nick. Maybe none of the modeling agencies were interested in Gabi, so Nick spoofed Sparkle Modeling's email address and sent a fake email to Gabi offering her a job. Nick could've hired an actress to play the modeling scout who talked with Gabi at the pub, and Nick is smart enough to create a fake modeling contract. And if Gabi had any questions about the contract, she'd just call the fake modeling scout who would answer Gabi's questions in the way that Nick had instructed.
Then when Gabi gets to New York and realizes that there's no modeling job, maybe Nick is hoping that Gabi will be too embarrassed to return to Salem. And we know that Nick wants a job in New York, so maybe Nick's plan is to ask Gabi to move in with him after Gabi realizes that her modeling job doesn't exist. In that case, Nick would've positioned himself to be Gabi's knight in shining armor, and he'd have Gabi and Ari all to himself in New York.
If the modeling job turns out to be fake, Gabi could use that info in her defense if she's ever arrested for bludgeoning Nick. (The fake modeling job would make her look sympathetic to a jury because the jury would see how Nick had been manipulating Gabi.)

Sounds plausible.
At the very least, Nick suckered Sparkle into taking on Gabi by faking being Lucas and saying Mad World wanted her. Kate and or Lucas are bound to get wind of this sooner or later. Or Sparkle will figure out they got suckered. Gabi needs to fire a few synapses and ask questions.
