who makes the call to scrap these stories most of them would have paid off well...unlike the garbage we were forced to watch from 2001-2011
Most of the stories get lost when head writers change....the jungle compound tarp and Jonesy's freezer were started by JER at the end of his run in 1997, and Sally Sussman-Morina never followed up on them. I doubt we are ever going to find out who was taking money from Alice's secret African bank account. Could Bill Horton have a secret illegitimate black daughter??

On that topic, wasn't there supposed to be a story where Tommy had a half black son in NY? Or was that part of Kola Boof's character bible or something?

That does sound familiar and I think that rumor was first put out there before Kola.

Barley even mildly related, but I like to remind people of the speculation that Maggie's big story in 2010 after Mickey died was that she was going to discover he had a secret family. The Hernandezes.

Oh, I remember another one! When Jennifer returned in 2000, it was suggested that she had learned a secret of Bill's while in Africa and it created tension between them. It may have had something to do with Colin. I don't think it was ever explained in depth.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I remember that we also thought she was going to drive drunk and kill/injure some of Sami's kids.

What if both had happened?

Hi guys, I'm new. This is actually my first post! Anyway when I was a kid a remember when roman/john was dating Diana Colville ( Genie Francis ) after Deidre Hall had left, &'Marlena was " Dead ". When Roman, & Diana were on screen they were often being watched by a mostly unseen woman. You would see maybe her shoes, & hands, but nothing else, however Marlena's name would often be randomly brought up! I don't know if perhaps Deidre had been in talks at the time to return though she didn't till years later, or if maybe they were toying with a replacement actress? Either way it seemed clear that it was intended to be Marlena, but nothing came of it. Plus when she did eventually return it was revealed that despite giving birth, she had actually been in a coma all that time. Anybody remember that one?
They had resolution to this storyline. The woman that was watching Diana & Roman was an actress that Stefano hired (and then held as prisoner). There was a scene where you finally saw the actress' face and she told Diana (and Roman maybe) something along the lines of a crazy man had been holding her captive, and the last we saw of her was her running away as quick as she could. PS: I only remember this in good detail because I did 1988 research in the past few years.
And they pretty much admitted before then it wasn't going to be Marlena. She was seen with Drew in Salem, being told to go mess with Roman and Diana.

Here's another one:

In the summer of 1984, Bo and Hope were occasionally trailed by by a hand wearing a glove and wearing a distinctive ring. He shows up during the New Orleans parade in the crowd and I believe shoots someone. He also goes overboard when trying to get a prism from Howie on a boat (Howie, of course, doesn't notice).

Occasionally, you'd see Shane wearing the ring and I think perhaps one of them people he's in contact with.

Not long after, Shane is established as being a good spy. He quits wearing the ring. It and the glove are next spotted on Stefano. I don't believe there was any further explanation.

I also can't help but wonder if the Pawn was supposed to go differently in the early days, before Drake Hogestyn took over as the unmasked man.

It was explained in 2002. Jennifer thought that Bill was having affairs with different women and that Colin covered for him by keeping Jennifer at the camp fire. But in reality Bill was helping sick people on the enemy side of whatever conflict was going on.

Hi Paul. I just did a quick search of Dustin's 1997 recaps page and located the episode for you: 9/19/97

"In the jungle Stefano shoots a dart at John, but Hope leaps in front of him and is hit. Kristen says that it's a poison dart, there is no antidote and the poison works in seconds! John pulls a gun on Stefano and says if she dies, he dies. Stefano says if he dies, Roman dies! Hope stands up, she says the dart didn't hit her, she only hit her head. Stefano takes the dart and tells them he had no intention of killing anyone, he did it to prove a point. With the dart Stefano sticks himself to prove the dart isn't poisonous. Stefano says he only locked them in the bunker for their protection, the natives don't like strangers. Stefano tells John and Hope to come with him, he will show them the cure. Stefano leads them to his laboratory and introduces them to Dr. Rolfe, the man in charge of finding the cure. Hope wonders if she has meet Dr. Rolfe before, but he says no and Stefano quickly breaks them apart to show them the cure. Stefano has a vial which he claims will save Roman's life. John wants to get back to Salem with the cure but Stefano says that can't do that yet. Stefano gives a speech about how we (the world) are destroying the Rain Forest, which is a valuable source of goodness. John and Hope talk about Dr. Rolfe, Hope wonders if he knows her from Maison Blanche. Meanwhile Stefano tells Dr. Rolfe he is never to leave that (no clue what that is) out while she (Hope) is around!"

I was also able to find the clip on Youtube (the scene starts at 5 minutes, 22 seconds): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiJJN3mU6s4&feature=player_detailpage&list=PLECFCEF1122813FCD#t=322

The ring indicated that the person worked for Maxwell Hathaway's cartel (which Megan was really running). Shane was originally supposed to be one of Maxwell's men, assigned to watch Hope by posing as her butler. When fans liked Shane and they decided to make him a contract role, he became an ISA agent who had infiltrated Maxwell's gang to pose as Hope's butler. But when Hope fired him, he stopped working for her and Maxwell (who was promptly killed by Andre) and lost the ring.

It was never established, but it generally is assumed that the guy in New Orleans with the ring who tried to get the prism was Shane. (I believe Charles Shaughnessy did the voiceover for the character when he fell into the river.) Also, Shane knows about the first prism falling into the Mississippi, because he goes back to New Orleans to try to find it but Nurse Honeycutt gets it from the dead alligator first.

Nurse Honeycutt! Elinor Donahue was great in the role. Stefano needs a henchwoman. Loved Honeycutt and Stef's bitch-of-a-maid, Delia Abernathy.

Welcome to the board! I don't remember much of Diana or the mystery woman watching her and Roman/John.

I think when Marlena was being held at Maison Blanche, Stefano revealed he had taught her how to place chess while he was holding her captive on the island. I still think there is more to her missing years with Stefano than simply giving birth to the Gemini twins and being in a coma.
We've had a zillion different "John's past" scenarios and re-writes, and we know only two things about Marlena's missing years. Almost five years. We know she gave birth, we know Stefano taught her chess, outside of that? Nada.

The unresolved story that bothers me the most (aside from the gifts from Stefano's funeral) is the mystery of Greta's father.

Oh yeah! Well Greta said John wasn't her father before she left town. When Gina told Greta her father's identity, she said the man was currently in Salem. What if it was Victor?

i'm still not convinced John wasn't her father. They were down between Stefano and John though. I sorta felt like since she didn't confront anyone it must have been Stefano. Though the way Gina fawned over her, I felt it had to be John.
