CB seems like a really nice lady and I wish her the best. Like others, I was very lukewarm to her and her character for a good long while but the Nick storyline changed that and she's improved greatly. Good luck CB! |

Sami who?

I hope she makes it. I agree with her decision to leave Days. She's young and she has a few years of acting experience under her belt, which makes it a perfect time for her to try other projects. |

I really do wish her the best. Lots of people leave daytime with dreams of something bigger, but it doesn't necessarily work out. She's grown so much over the past few months, I hope she achieves what she's looking for. She's also so obviously gorgeous! I'll miss her! Love what she said about Gabi and Rafe. I hated their guts for the longest time and found both of them unnecessary, but Galen and Camilla really were believable as siblings. That was the best relationship for both of them! With that being said, Days has got to stop losing these young characters. The article mentions 4, but include Chelsea, Stephanie, and Max and you have to wonder why this younger generation isn't feeling compelled to stay. I know they all left for other opportunities, more or less, but goodness! Maybe they'll come back like KA did after her stint on other shows and real Hollywood doesn't work out. |

Good interview. I really like CB, she's beautiful and has become a really good actress. I loved all the stuff she said about Rafe and GG. They really did have great chemistry as brother/sister and that is one of the things I'll miss most about her departure. I wish her all the best. |

Which of Kristian's returns are you referring to? I'm assuming it's her 1994 return. And I wouldn't say that "real Hollywood" didn't work out for her. From what I understand, Corday asked her to come back. Sure, she could've said no, but who would pass up a job offer that they didn't even have to inquire about? I think Days should try to get some of the younger players back for the 50th (assuming Days gets its renewal). Have Stephanie come visit her mom for a bit. Have Chelsea visit Abby, Hope & Ciara (or maybe return after something Bo-related happens). Have Shawn, Belle, & Claire come home & visit their families. (we can skip the returns of Melanie, Chad, Nathan, & Cameron) |

Bah, I knew I should have been more specific or put a semicolon or something there when I mentioned Kristian! I was speaking in a general sense, as KA left the show, pursued some opportunities, and returned later on. I wasn't implying that it was a bad thing, it's just that some younger people leave and return to soaps later, often when it doesn't work out (see Storms, Kirsten) or they decide that's where they want to be after getting their feet wet (see Alfonso, Kristian). I don't know if they can prevent this though. I mean EVERY SINGLE young performer over the last five years has left after their initial 4-year contract. I think Days needs to do a better job of accepting this reality and planning accordingly. First of all, they need to leverage young performers right away. I mean, both CB and KM were nearly 3 years into their contracts before they got pretty meaty stories, so they wasted the majority of their four years. They also need to plan to rotate in new 20-something characters regularly. And finally, they need to be more willing to re-cast. |

I completely agree with your comment about recasting. Every under-30 actor that's left the show has had their character written off, with the single exception of Chandler. So while Days has a constantly rotating cast of under-30 characters, GH has recast both Michael & Morgan multiple times to keep both characters on canvas. They've recast other under-30s as well. Days definitely needs to shift from "this actor is leaving, so how do we write their character's exit" to "this actor is leaving, who can we recast the character with". They should've recast Gabi, especially because of Arianna. Gabi leaving Salem and having WilSon raise Arianna doesn't make much sense, & with TPTB being so pro-WilSon, I can't see them having Gabi take the baby with her. |

I had a little different take on it. Couldn't Days do something to try to retain these people? I bet their thinking goes something like, Our taping schedule is arduous and tiring, and it's much harder on the vets than the younger actors. So let's use the younger actors more and more, especially since they're cheaper. The result of this is that the younger actors look even more longingly at their friends who are doing a weekly series, which requires far less energy and much less time learning lines. Days might want to try other strategies to retain the younger talent, imo. Perhaps don't burn them out early and/or provide some extra perks. I'm not even talking about money - intangibles can go a long way too. I think they should try this before just writing off the younger group at the end of their contracts. jmo! |

I honestly don't think it's a case of feeling overworked though. Let's face it, soap operas are pretty much the lowest rung in the acting world, definitely behind movies and primetime TV. I think the issue is they're young, pretty and have big dreams. They feel like they've paid their dues and improved their skills in daytime, so they want to take a chance at grabbing the brass ring. I think that's why they all leave. Edited by tomsawyer, Jan 20 2014, 12:17 PM.

^^ I don't disagree, but what if NBC were to use them more and invest more in the younger actors doing appearances, etc? I guess that's more of an NBC problem though. My point is just it goes together; I think if they felt like there was a reason to stay at Days, they would consider it more seriously. |

And I don't think soaps are still held in high regard in the acting community. |

I really don't think that is the case at all. KA Left after 4 years. PR left after 4 years. Billy Warlock left after 2 years. Charlotte Ross left after 4 years. Judi Evans left after 4 years. Young actors have always left soaps. The difference is the ones that are leaving now are pretty easy to recast. |

Exactly. As much as CB's version of Gabi has grown on me over the last year, it's not like CB "owns" Gabi so much that I couldn't accept a new version. With the Wilson/Arianna Grace storyline and the need for more 20-somethings in Salem, I think it makes a lot of sense to recast the character. |

TPTB should try to have some of these young actors back, propose them a shorter stint (3-6 months) with a good storyline. I feel like that's pretty much what happened with Blake Berris, they signed him again for 6 months and then his contract was extented to a year and then another year. |

With DAYS being unable to maintain a consistent set of younger actors, it's very frustrating that DAYS willingly chose to write off Belle and Shawn. DAYS could've gotten several years of storyline out of the Shawn/Belle/Phillip/Chloe quadrangle, and Shelle could now be used to connect the storylines and fill the gap between the early twenty-something characters and the late-thirties/early forties characters. Even if Brandon Beemer wasn't a good fit for Shawn, Martha Madison (in my opinion) was an excellent fit for an adult Belle. And Martha actually wanted to stay on DAYS! Plus, Claire (who was born in January 2005) could now be SORASed into a 15-year-old, and she could anchor a new set of teens that includes JT and Joy Wesley. Anyway, I know the article was about Camila Banus, but every time a younger actor leaves, it just reminds me of the gap in the Salem age groups that could easily be filled by Belle, Shawn, and a SORASed Claire. |

In Blake's case, he was let go in the first place! The rest of them, just aren't good enough for that kind of treatment. DAYS has done an awful job over the last 10 years of actually creating younger characters, where you can't imagine anyone else in the role but the original actor. Max, Chelsea, Stephanie, Melanie, Chad, Gabby can all be recast quite easily. I know I am forgetting people. As for Banus, she learned on the job, was awful most of her run on the show, and I think she is going to flop outside of the daytime world. but good luck to her lol |

And have much less interesting stories and characterizations in the first place.[/quote]Exactly! After his entire run on the show, can anyone explain who Chad was? It would be so easy to recast the role, and you could go anywhere with him, and start over. |
