I'm happy with the possibility of KDP coming to Days. Since they keep wanting to bring on new faces, I think they are actually making fairly good decisions with strong actors. GW, FS, CMo, GV, CS and JL have proven themselves already. KDP was fantastic on OLTL and I'd love to see her go toe-to-toe with DH, AZ and LK. KDP also worked well with younger actors as well. I think she'd be a great asset on Days.

I love how KDP's name has been the most often stated one in Jason's latest tease thread & now people are "hearing rumors" that she's joining the show.....she probably won't be seen until the summer.
As part of the renewal, DOOL will introduce longer-form mini-infomercials during Acts 3+4, with a reprise just prior to the final act each day. Up first, former daytime drama personality Kassie DP with the no!no! Hair Removal System.

IMO, Salem is starting to look unrecognizable with all these new characters crowding out familiar favorites. And I don't think that's a good thing at all.
The early 80s were filled with a lot of new characters, as it was the introduction of the Brady family. There are actually quite a few characters that are the children of adults we know & love (Sonny, Theresa, Will, Abby, JJ). There really aren't that many new adults. And of the new adult faces, only Jordan & Aiden are actually on contract. Cheryl & Liam aren't.
That doesn't matter to me, I still have them on my screen, and there are more coming.

I still don't think KDP is needed, though...
Anyone who can separate Daniel from Nicole and Jennifer is clearly needed.
Nothing against SC but I'm so tired of Daniel that right now I'm not interested in any of his pairings, even if it's KDP as his love interest (OK, I might change my mind later). I don't think they have to waste such an actress just to separate Daniffer or Danicole. I'd rather see her with EM (Thrady is really quite annoying now, IMO), BD or JS or JM, for that matter. BTW they could do some onscreen chemistry testing with several characters/actors, it always helps and is more intersting than to bring someone for someone and see if it's working.
THIS. They've wasted more than enough actresses trying to make SC's character likable. Kassie is a leading actress. Shawn Christian is mediocre at best and cannot carry a leading man type storyline. Kassie's talents would be wasted. The best way to free Jennifer and Nicole is to let Daniel leave town. The character desperately needs a LONG break from Salem.

A few of the changes have been somewhat of an improvement, but overall, you are right on the money.
This is the problem I see, if no one wants them to recast a character when the actor leaves, they have to replace familiar character with new ones.

Me personally would rather have the re-cast.

I've always felt that soaps are at their best when they have both the founding, established families and new people/families. First of all you need new families in order to have new generations. And, written correctly, new characters/families should be unique and bring their own energy to the canvas. Those new families can then be developed into established families like the Brady and Kiriakis clan was in the 1980's-1990's. On a side note I always wished they had developed the Wesley family more and maybe given Craig a sibling or two.

There's been one too many Kiriakis/Brady, Brady/Horton pairings IMO and the branches on the Salem family tree are way too intertwined. This has been a real bone of contention for me for the last decade so I am happy to see new characters on canvas. It's why Tad, Rory and Bev are a breath of fresh air for me.

It must be the writers then, to me we are getting new faces without knowing anything about them, with no ties, and no backstory.

Yeah, that's the problem. Most of the new characters are generic and basically only exist so the current characters can get some action. And it's been an issue for awhile. I don't think I could list three personality traits that describe Nathan, or Stephanie, or Gabi until recently.

Stephanie isn't a new character that was created for the sake of other characters. She was born on the show.

I know Stephanie's history, but she was still a new character for the purpose of this discussion. Last seen as a prop infant, she was a completely blank slate that needed to be developed into a person. And when redheaded Stephanie left, she took the things that made Stephanie unique with her.

The bad acting and odd facial tics?

My pet peeve is when a new character is introduced, tests well with the audience and network, is on contract for a year or more, and then they decide to make that character some long lost relative or egg baby. Think of how many characters started out on this show with no blood ties to anyone and are now related to practically everyone. We could add that to the list that someone started awhile back called Soap Opera Problems. Does every older female character have to get pregnant as teen, give the baby up for adoption, and be reunited with them many years later after first having a contentious relationship with said long lost child?

LOL. It was a definite actress upgrade, but the writing took a nosedive.

Stephanie will always be a race car driver in my heart! Along with EJ, Philip, Shawn, and Creepy Uncle Max. Goddamn, that was a stupid fucking storyline!

Kassie DePaiva!!...this show just got THAT MUCH better...wow....DREAM casting right there.

She is one of the top actresses in daytime...she ruled OLTL for years.

As much as I love the old characters, the newer ones (not Daniel), are getting better.

I absolutely LOVE Theresa, LOVE JJ, love JJ's friends...like Jordan and Sheryl...verdict is WAY WAY out on Liam & Aiden.

Outside of recast Eric...who lets face it, was the best thing to happen to DAYS in YEARS...who else is really new? Even recast Will is an improvement so far.
