I can see NBC trying their hand at a roundtable talker like "The View" and "The Talk" with Ali being the moderator.
If NBC did that, I wonder how AS would feel about making her "family" of the last 22 years suddenly unemployed for a daytime talk show starring herself??? I just don't see that.

They wouldn't have to cancel the show. NBCUniversal could produce and syndicate it, like they do with Access Hollywood, Maury, Steve Harvey etc.

In the 2000s, who was the obvious lead of the show? It wasn't Alison.
Based on the most episodes (which is one of the factors determining a "lead), it was Ali:

She appeared in the most episodes from 2000-2009:

3. Kristian Alfonso (Hope Brady-1427/Gina VonAmberg-24) 1430
4. Drake Hogestyn (John Black)1210
5. Jason Cook (Shawn-Douglas Brady) 1155
6. Lauren Koslow (Kate Roberts) 1137
7. Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans-1100/Hattie Adams-2/Samantha Evans-2) 1100
8. Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Horton) 1056

11. Josh Taylor (Roman Brady) 908
12. Farah Fath (Mimi Lockhart) 862

This is a huge blow for Days of Our Lives. Like Sami or not

I don't think so. When Ali was on maternity leave last time, DAYS was just fine without her.
She was never on maternity leave.

I can see Days getting it's 50th Anniversary show as a fond farewell and being replaced by the Ali Sweeney show. Many people, tho not so much on this board, relate to her thru Days or TBL and I can see NBC thinking it will smooth over the bad feelings that will come with the show's cancellation.
If they do ,I forsee the same result they got when they canceled Another World and replaced it with the Wayne Brady Show.I don't believe it lasted six months(not sure never watched) and I am still pissed.

If carrie or belle dont come bak for this leading spot. I want AZ to take it. i wouldnt mind seeing nicole married and having kids or possibly adopting.
I doubt Nicole will ever be a lead character since she isn't a Horton or a Brady. It's more likely to be Theresa or Jennifer... which makes me cringe.

Exactly.

And AS has given plenty of notice so the audience can adjust -- those who like the transition will stay, those who don't will leave. . .and those who turned off DAYS because of the Sami overload (like I did) will come back. I came back once I saw the promo that EJ was hooking up with Abby. . likely the end of EJami.

TPBT will use this year to find other storylines to anchor the show. Maybe it will actually be more like the golden days of the 80s when there was more than one storyline revolving around one character. . .the Jack & Jens, BOPES, Jarlena, Patch & Kayla days. Ericole seems promising, Wilson is a breath of fresh air, Ejabby is bringing the younger viewers in (at least from what I can see on Twitter--no ratings yet to know for sure), but at least the show is making strides in the right direction for BALANCE.

But remember the Stan character? Ali wasn't there for that, but lead to believe Stan was Sami.

I do want to see Sami go out with a bang. It would be a great murder mystery and not to mention, I don't want us to lose Johnny or Allie or Sydney.

If Alison Sweeney wants Sami to leave Breaking Bad style, you better bet they'll make it happen. Even Renee Jones got to dictate how Lexie left the show... certainly they would let Ali choose Sami's departure...
How did Breaking Bad end?

She was never on maternity leave.
Well, technically she was, but with pre-tapes and post-tapes, she never missed much time, and has only been absent for two full months (April 1995 and September 2001) during her time on the show.

From my monthly stats file...

But even then she really didn't leave the show even for maternity. She still did voiceovers as Sami's voice for "Stan's" inner monologues...
