I have watched soaps on and off for the last 20 years. I grew up with her (we r about the same age). But I have to ask y'all, don't u find it a little weird she gives 1 year notice to the FANS? I understand to the writers/TPTB. I don't know... whether you like it or not, she has been a huge part of the show forever and I'm surprised they would let her tell us this far out. I have to wonder if this doesn't say something about days and their scheduling, where they were taking her storyline, or future of days.
If this is normal, please correct me! Lol. I was just really surprised about the timing! I may be just reading too much into it!

I wish her all the best in the future and will miss her!
It's certainly not the routine, but actually I think it will help Days. There are a A LOT off fans who've been turned off by the Sami Brady Show over the past few years who will return, just because they know the end is near. EJabby and Lucas already brought me back in the last month, but if that hadn't happened, I would have returned after hearing this news.
I agree it could be a ploy to bring in the ratings as people know her end is near, but what about after? As many have said, it's been the Sami show for a while now. I hope the writers can step it up when it comes to writing for the other characters. They've done a pretty good job with Ericole and some of the Ejabby stuff. although I think Ejabby has been about sex up until this latest turn if events. Just the length of notice is odd to me. Lord knows she doesn't NEED Days! Google what she earns for one episode of Biggest Loser!

My brain is accepting that there will be no more Sami Brady, but I cant imagine EJ with Abigail! Maybe its because of the characters (EJ/Sami) professing their love for one another just recently over and over, and now this. I do wish AS the very best, but it is going to be strange in Salem without her for a while! Do hope that Nicole gets more screen time now, and hopes EJ stays in Salem.
Welcome aboard.EJ/Abby and AS leaving have resulted in a number of new members.Hope you have fun.I hope,Nicole, and a lot of other characters get more screen time and EJ stays in Salem.
For years I wanted James to leave daytime and pursue primetime or movies, but that didn't happen. I was afraid he would spend his best years languishing in daytime. Now I'm afraid that's what has happened. I can't see him doing great things or getting the opportunity now that he is 35 yrs old, so I hope he stays with DOOL instead of leaving the country like he hinted at before. I figured that Ali was spreading herself too thin. Don't blame her though. I'm honestly surprised she stayed this long after TBL took off, and she started getting so many talk show appearances. She is one of a few legitimate stars of daytime who is known by people other than soap fans.

Samifan

There are more than a few Sami haters on this board and while some rejoice at this news others realize, and appreciate, how much the character actually added to the canvass. I am a shameless Samifan and would not want to see anyone other than AS in the role. Twenty two years is a long time for anyone to work at a particular job. If this is what AS wants then as a fan I am happy for her.

Sami Brady was the "bad seed Brady" for a long time. She was never really successful in her relationships or her plots. In the past she was always second best, never first choice. Then, all of a sudden, she was first choice x3 and the merry-go-round began. Each fan base was milked until they were exhausted. So I understand why there is a certain level of rejoicing upon the occasion of her announced departure.

I agree with the folks who say no one character drives the show and I highly doubt AS's departure will have an impact on whether the show stays on air or not. Likely AS has some inside scoop on the show's future but whether this information factored into her decision or not is anyone's guess.

It will be interesting to see how the writers choose to deal with her exit. As a long time viewer I will continue to watch. And just like any other viewer I will ff through the scenes of the characters/pairings I don't like or disapprove of. When I get to the day when I ff through an entire show I will quit watching...because then...what's the point.

Good luck AS. Its been a wild ride.

Well this is a shocking way to wake up. Glad I didn't read it before I went to bed or I'd never go to sleep.

My Ejami hatred aside, I don't know how to feel about this. I noticed she had another book released and everyone kept saying she was going to announce Days renewal on Ellen but I thought that was an odd way to do it. In the back of my mind, I had this feeling she was leaving. It's not just Ejabby. For the first time then I know, both Lucas and Rafe are in their own storylines, they don't need Sami. Now if she's staying on for awhile, maybe that's just a coincidence but wow.

Oh, and can I just say that the "two week vacation" stuff is so annoying. It's HER CHOICE. She appeared on TBL less than 2 weeks after she gave birth (!) so she could use her unique talents to ask people to step forward for weigh-ins. She did extra pre-taping during the end of both pregnancies, hardly a time to work more, so that she wouldn't be offscreen. She makes it sound like Days is some type of slave labor camp that wouldn't let her out.
Well said!

Come on Ron, We are counting on YOU !!

I took a few minutes this morning to really take this in...here are my thoughts....

I think if this announcement had come sometime in 2006 or 2007, I would have been devastated, today I'm just sad. Sad because I've had to mourn Sami for the past few years and with this announcement today, I really am sort of relieved. I'm relieved that this show can no longer harm her. Let's face it there is very little left to make her even more unlike the Sami that I loved. Sami wasn't a cheater, yet she became one. The Sami who we saw take a gun and castrate her first rapist, managed to forgive, forget and fall in love with her other one. The Sami that finally landed a guy like Rafe who although I didn't particularly like, was very much like Austin to her...a good guy that had Sami's best interests at heart....managed to cheat on him with the likes of the man that joked about putting a doppelganger of her husband in her bed. The Sami that spent so much time 'doing this or that for Will'...didn't even care that people would blackmail him.

I'm glad with Sami being off canvas, these types of story lines that ruined her for me won't be told any longer. I'm hopeful that maybe when Sami comes back (and let's face it...she will) the story that brings her back will be one that renews the Sami I loved....

In the end, I can't say I'm looking forward to her leaving, I'd be lying...because so much of the last 20 years of my life has been spent loving, hating, questioning, crying, laughing, or at times loving to hate my Sami....she is such a central part of Days that I can only imagine a great way to write her off is to kill this Sami we see on screen somehow in the most dramatic way possible and tell the story of her 'men' mourning, and moving on without her. Or have Lucas and Ej fighting over the kids somehow. I won't lie because I know Bryan isn't on contract, so what might come from this might not be very good for me personally as he's my absolute favorite...or it might actually work out for him and Lucas in the end...who knows.

I'll be truthful with what I think will happen. I think Ali is pretty much doing what Kim M did at GH. She's taking herself out of the equation and moving on to better things, just as the show kicks off it's 50th year. The 50th in some way is going to be all about Sami Gene Brady also...even if she's not around.

I wish Ali all the best....family is the most precious thing. Kids grow up so fast and before you know it they are 16 and in high school. She needs to cherish that time and take every moment in.....but she'll be back at Days...before we know it....and frankly the break is needed....it is really is..for her and for the fans.

Okay, I'm just going to go ahead and say it. Since Sami's leaving, can we PLEASE bring back Belle or Carrie? Their absences are GLARING and I need Marlena to have a daughter in Salem!
Except, who says Marlena is staying? I don't think they'll keep her on much longer since they don't write any storylines for her. Plus I'm sure she's expensive. Not to mention the past evidence of how she has been treated on this show.

I can see NBC trying their hand at a roundtable talker like "The View" and "The Talk" with Ali being the moderator.
If NBC did that, I wonder how AS would feel about making her "family" of the last 22 years suddenly unemployed for a daytime talk show starring herself??? I just don't see that.

Well it's hardly her responsibility to think about such a thing. If NBC offers her such a position she has a right to take or not take it. One doesn't have to have anything to do with the other, and even if it did, she has the right to think about what she wants for herself.

That explains why all her men are being paired off with other woman.
Could be, What we are seeing now with Rafe, Lucas and Ej could be that the writer knew then when they where writing/shooting it that AS was leaving the show. I mean if she is leaving it would be way to do it.

I would hate if Sami and EJ would elope and never look back again, mostly because I want to keep EJ (and James) on the show. Specially now when AS is leaving.

Hopefully, James want to stay on Days when his renewal of his contract comes up.
The best way for story to Sami consider to dead and than have story of ej and Lucas fighting on kids
There more story if Sami will be gone only

Lucas and EJ canīt fight over the kids because EJ doesnīt have any rights to Allie, and Lucas doesnīt have any rights to Johnny and Sydney.

I'll miss Sami. She annoyed me at times over the years and this might be an ensemble show, but she has always been a big part of the Days that I grew up with and it's not going to be the same show without her. That said, although this is completely unexpected, I'm not really that upset that AS is going. Wish her the best and hope she's not jumping ship because she knows something the fans don't. I don't want Sami to die, though. I want her to finally get her perfect wedding and happy ending.
The problem with Sami getting happy ending that they will fire who she end up with and also with kids stuff with problem to give her exist
Exactly, unless they bring Brandon back short-term.
What she do with the kids will she kidnap from their fathers and they will never see them again

Sami kids are important to the show so I donīt see her leaving with them (unless Ejami were to leave together) they will have to kill her off or recast her. Maybe she could leave and just take Sydney with her if Allie and Johnny is sorased and old enough to decide that they want to stay with their fathers.

Interesting....

Has anyone considered that Days breakneck taping schedule is burning out the talent and causing them to leave? Eileen Davidson hinted at it. Chandler Massey complained he didn't have time to finish school and experience a normal life. Casey Diedrick and Camila Banus wanted to explore other career options. Let's be honest, being on DAYS lately does NOT give the cast much flexibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if Alison is simply burned out and frustrated.

I must say one thing, I loved your post so classy :) Whatever one thinks about Ali or her character Sami, she has been a key role on Days a long time and many stories have been entertaining with her. Personally, I think Ali is a smart business woman and she will do just fine without Days :)

I think there is a method to the madness...they could get a one year renewal at this point and still get the 50th Anniversary show in the can. If that's what happens Sami is only off canvas for 4 months and they could always film something before she leaves that could be shown at the end.

If she were burned out, why would she do the Hallmark movie on top of her other commitments? That was only a year ago.

This begins to explain the random WTF of the recent male / female shifting. When AS leaves (and I'm guessing JS leaves) then two of the characters with the most screentime will be gone and the show has to figure out how to restructure to fill that. Her departure may be a year away but they need to test all of these characters out.

Sweeney is at the height of her career now so I'm also guessing she is looking to make the most of it and we will soon hear about an AS talk show. It would be kind of funny if it took Days time slot.

I'm really wondering about all the renewal comments. I was certain I had seen an announcement on Days renewal already. However, it will be renewed, it's a given. They're not going to cancel it before the 50th, if for nothing else, going out in a blaze of glory, and having all the media it will bring. (Btw, the show better do the celebration good as GH did. No slouching.)

And eww to weird people like Alicia Minshew or Kelly Sullivan as recast. There will be no recast, and certainly not from these choices.

You see my love for Lucas/BD today? It was way more for Sami/Ali at one point...I defended her character more than I defend Lucas on any given day...as to AS..I loved her...I followed her career, I was a fan....I would get a kick out of reading her posts at Second Chances, laugh my ass off when she'd go in and debate stuff.....it was fun to love the character and the actor...it hasn't been fun for a long time now though.
