I think you are one of the bravest men I have ever known, and I am exquisitely proud of you.

I'm in the minority who will miss both Ali and Sami. I was something seven or eight years old when I started watching Days and I have liked Sami ever since. What makes this sadder for me is that we probably won't see Sami and Lucas together as a couple. I have always loved them and Ali & Bryan's chemistry. In my opinion, they are great together. Now some of you are thinking that Lucas deserves someone way better than Sami, which probably is true, but Lumi is still Lumi and I will always love Lumi.

Anyway I'm interested in how they will write her out, and I wish all the best for Ali! :)

You're right it was the year before but I still get the feeling he isn't interested in EJ's path. Honestly I don't think he has really liked his character in awhile. He loves Sween so I'm sure he was happy to finally work in a 'happy' story with her but I just haven't felt that he really gives a shyte in a very long time.
IDK, he sort of confuses me at times with what he says. He's said many times he loves to play the darker EJ...he thrives in it and it's fun for him. If that's the case, then this is the perfect opportunity for him to play that role. He betrays Sami in the worse possible way, she leaves him and before he has a chance to make it up to her, she dies in some mysterious tragic way. He can't cope and goes back and embraces his dark side....I think that they will focus on every one of her men's reaction to her death...Ej can go full blown dark side again, Lucas can drink himself into oblivion, and Rafe can go back to working at the Police Station full force to uncover who killed Sami Brady....lol
I definitely think he likes the 'dark side' but Days has proven that they don't know how to write his dark character in any kind of romantic partnership which doesn't force the character to be a 'better man' in someway. Even this thing with Abby can go no where if he remains the villain.

My other problem with EJ being dark (or Sami for that matter) is that the show no longer has rivals for these villains. there is no reason for EJ to be dark because he has no need to be scheming or conniving or nasty manipulative. The Kiriaki are gone, Kate is toothless, they write EJ rivaling Stefano one minute then his bestie the next....the writing doesn't sustain the kind of villain that EJ is/used to be/could be.
I honestly believe that is the role we're going to find in Liam the drug representative if we ever see him again.

Here's hoping Christie Clark's phone is blowing up with calls. Time to bring Carrie back to Salem where she belongs and be front and center, even if it was her choice to leave back in the late 90's.
Christie has 3 kids under 5 now and I believe she lives in the SF bay area rather than LA. I love Christie, but for me Carrie loses some of her appeal when she doesn't have Sami around to constantly play off.

And if Liam is a 'bad' villain, then EJ will be a 'good' villain much like he was during the Sami trial. It just doesn't work for the character IMO. But you never know, with the need to get the show focus off of Sami then maybe they will be forced to create real, solid rivalries again and not whiplash these characters for plot points.

I am sad. I started watching DAYS for Jack & Jen around 1990, but given MA's departure and then MR's (SCANDAL!) and departure I became more of a Sami fan. Yes she could be annoying at times, but she had a lot of storylines that were pretty interesting. I wanted her to get Austin. Then I became a Lumi when she went through the french doors. Then I became an Ejami because of AS's & JS's smoking hot chemistry. So, I am sad. I do wish her well.

I do call bullshit on her "The longest vacation I have had since I was 16 was 2 weeks". Whatever. I have NEVER had a 2 week vacation since I started working at 17.

I could see tension between her, Rafe and Jordan. I really could. I hate Carrie though - except when she was with Mike. But I could get behind a return if it was well written.

Alison Sweeney leaving 'Days of Our Lives,' says Sami Brady 'probably deserves' 'Breaking Bad'-style ending

After 21 years playing the sometimes-villainous, sometimes-heroic Sami Brady on "Days of Our Lives," "Biggest Loser" host Alison Sweeney tells "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that it's time to say goodbye.

"I decided that it's going to be my last year with the show," says Sweeney. " ... I've been on 'Days of Our Lives' since I was 16 years old and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time. I mean, it's so awesome. I love Sami, I love Salem, I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans, I love everything about it."

"[But] my daughter just turned five and my son is nine and I just want to be with them and enjoy my last year," Sweeney continues. "I'm going to be on 'Days' all this year. ... We don't have a specific time yet [for when I'm leaving], but I'm going to be on all this year and we'll see what happens."

As for the ending, Sweeney says that while she thinks it would be awesome to have "some kind of happy ending," she also thinks Sami "probably deserves some sort of very twisted, like 'Breaking Bad' ending."

"Well, she's caused a lot of people a lot of problems," says Sweeney. " ... Sami has certainly caused her fair share of drama over the last 21 years."

How do you think Sami should be sent off, "Days of Our Lives" fans?

I'll miss Sami. She annoyed me at times over the years and this might be an ensemble show, but she has always been a big part of the Days that I grew up with and it's not going to be the same show without her. That said, although this is completely unexpected, I'm not really that upset that AS is going. Wish her the best and hope she's not jumping ship because she knows something the fans don't. I don't want Sami to die, though. I want her to finally get her perfect wedding and happy ending.
Really? I kinda want Sami, Johnny and Sydney to die in a car crash so EJ can go bat shit crazy because he lost his family.
NO!! That would mean JS has to cry.

NO. NO. NO.
LOL. Nah, he could just skip the grief stage and get pissed instead.

This will give the writers a chance to stick their lips to someone else's rear for a change instead of it being the Sami show or the Sami and EJ show, thank god.
I'm really afraid that rear will be Daniel :puke:

Fan of EJ+ABBY!

I think that days need to add more villains to the show. Someone that can really stand up against likes of EJ Dimera or Stefano Dimera.

Well, I'm very much a lapsed viewer at this point but Sami vs. Carrie was one of the things that got me hooked, and I stuck with the show because of Sami for a good long bit.

I can't speculate on the future of the show, or her future, but one thing I would ask is that the writers actually create an ending for this character. Sami hasn't "died" yet, so I guess that's one route. But whatever they do I hope there's a moment of finality there, and it's not a Bo Brady kinda thing (last I was paying attention he was just sort of fading out, an occasional phone call).

An ending arc that builds for more than 2 weeks would be even better.

It's so odd how just the other day I was wondering if AS may leave the show. There was just something about Ejabby that made the thought cross my mind and now BAM this news. Gotta say, when I first saw AS on my screen as Samantha Gene Brady, never did I think she would be so pivotal and utilized...it's crazy! While my love for the character has dwindled thru the years, I do give major props to Alison Sweeney. 21 years is a long run in any field and I appreciate what she brought to the table. I couldn't be more curious as to how the show will handle her exit! At the end of the day, after watching this show so long...I do have an odd soft spot in my heart for Sami. I wish Alison the best of luck and thank her for 21 years of some interesting shit! ;)

I hope this frees up some major money. Can we get Peter Reckell back??

It's sad because she's a staple of the show, but Sami has been frontburner way, way, way too much and too long.

Me too - only Days is crazy enough to be 4.5 months ahead where she is afforded those 2 weeks off because they are dark. And if she had a problem being front and center all the damn time she should have said so. Maybe then we all would have gotten a vacation from her longer than 2 weeks.Just sayin'

Bye Sami!

My only real concern now is awaiting the word of Days' renewal. I really hope they get two years so I can enjoy a Sami free Days. One year and we might still have Sami for most of that time and she'll probably come back for the end of the show anyway. No renewal and we will never get to experience Days without Sami again :(.

I have so many ideas for Sami's exit, but I'll hold off on them. I'm really glad they have all of this time to craft a good story and set up Salem post-Sami if there's a renewal. I hate that some of my all-time favorites got the shaft when it came to their exits from the show, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see a big time story play out here. I want her exit to be HUGE and have massive ramifications. I don't want her going to get the mail or being in the other room so I'm glad TPTB have all of this time to plan something.

My excitement is over how much airtime and money they can free up. Bring back Eileen. Bring back the original (and better) Sami, Eve Donovan! Maybe they touched base with Charlotte Ross when they heard that Alison was seriously considering leaving. It makes a lot of sense. Bring back Bo Brady. By the time Alison exits maybe Hope and Aiden will be a big thing and we will have had over a year of seeing them together. Again, almost perfect timing. Elevate Chrishell to lead and give the Jordan character 100x more personality. Bring back Belle or Carrie or both. Sami's exit opens up so much screen time. If they got rid of Daniel too they basically could bring back every fan favorite with time to spare. I'm excited for the possibilities of what's to come!

I'll worry about Days reaching 50 when there is reason to worry. A cancellation is always a possibility, but the show has been doing pretty well ratings-wise for a while and NBC seems pretty happy with the show. I have a feeling if NBC cancelled Days before 50, there would be a LOT of pissed-off soap fans, myself included.

It's a shame that so much of this show has revolved around Sami for the past several years, because it's really hard to imagine the structure of the show without the character. This is a big hit for Days, like it or not. Although I'm very interested to see what it's going to be like to see a Sami-less Days. I wonder what the show has planned for James Scott?

I seriously need Martha Madison and/or Christie Clark to return now. Let's give another one of Marlena's daughters some time in the spotlight!

This begins to explain the random WTF of the recent male / female shifting. When AS leaves (and I'm guessing JS leaves) then two of the characters with the most screentime will be gone and the show has to figure out how to restructure to fill that. Her departure may be a year away but they need to test all of these characters out.

Sweeney is at the height of her career now so I'm also guessing she is looking to make the most of it and we will soon hear about an AS talk show. It would be kind of funny if it took Days time slot.
Why do you think JS Will leave too there nothing hint is going to leave and stuff with ej and Abby are pointing that JS not going anywhere
JS is a handsome guy (obviously) and an ok actor, but to be honest, he doesn't have a ton of primetime appeal. His big drawback for casting is that he is waaay too tall. Almost all TV actors, especially primetime, are tiny. You couldn't cast James as a regular in a show without having to find a bunch of taller actors (who were good) to fill out the cast. You can't get away with your leading ladies standing on apple boxes (hello Abby!) to make out with him on primetime tv shows. There are specific things that casting directors look for, and that includes a "fit" on the screen.

JS found a home on DAYS where he's handsomely paid and popular. I doubt he's going anywhere IF he plans to stay acting.

I feel like if Days isn't/wasn't renewed, that's just going to make her look silly. So hopefully she knows they've already been renewed.

...And kind of like a rat leaving a sinking ship.

I hope Days will continue and, if not, I hope Alison didn't know that before making this decision and announcing it.

I agree with what some of you have mentioned...it IS a shame this show has revolved around Sweeney/Sami so long. I think it's a good thing she's leaving....even if she comes back for an arc here or there a year or more from now. Days can survive without Sami.
