I'll worry about Days reaching 50 when there is reason to worry. A cancellation is always a possibility, but the show has been doing pretty well ratings-wise for a while and NBC seems pretty happy with the show. I have a feeling if NBC cancelled Days before 50, there would be a LOT of pissed-off soap fans, myself included.

It's a shame that so much of this show has revolved around Sami for the past several years, because it's really hard to imagine the structure of the show without the character. This is a big hit for Days, like it or not. Although I'm very interested to see what it's going to be like to see a Sami-less Days. I wonder what the show has planned for James Scott?

I seriously need Martha Madison and/or Christie Clark to return now. Let's give another one of Marlena's daughters some time in the spotlight!
Since the regime change, the show has done a good job IMO to bring in other characters that keep viewers interested. I haven't liked Sami in a very long time but there are tons of others that I do like so I dont think it'll be too big of a hit. I'm not watching the show just for her, in fact, a lot of times, she makes me tune out LOL. JS can be front and centre again since I always felt like he was in Sami's shadow.

And yea bringing back other Bradys work for me too!

I definitely think he likes the 'dark side' but Days has proven that they don't know how to write his dark character in any kind of romantic partnership which doesn't force the character to be a 'better man' in someway. Even this thing with Abby can go no where if he remains the villain.

My other problem with EJ being dark (or Sami for that matter) is that the show no longer has rivals for these villains. there is no reason for EJ to be dark because he has no need to be scheming or conniving or nasty manipulative. The Kiriaki are gone, Kate is toothless, they write EJ rivaling Stefano one minute then his bestie the next....the writing doesn't sustain the kind of villain that EJ is/used to be/could be.
I honestly believe that is the role we're going to find in Liam the drug representative if we ever see him again.
And if Liam is a 'bad' villain, then EJ will be a 'good' villain much like he was during the Sami trial. It just doesn't work for the character IMO. But you never know, with the need to get the show focus off of Sami then maybe they will be forced to create real, solid rivalries again and not whiplash these characters for plot points.
I am LOVING your banner!

And, I'm still sad about Sami. :-/ :-/ :-/

If Sami does die I'm definitely gonna need a scene where Austin, Lucas, Brandon, Rafe and EJ come together to commiserate. Hopefully they could get Matt Cedeno and Austin Peck back for that.

Now they need to bring back Martha Madison, Jason Cook, Nadia Bjorlin, and Jay Kenneth Johnson.

haha I know right? I actually teared up a little while watching some nostalgic Lumi moments on Youtube.. I always forget just how much I enjoyed that pairing because I don't like Sami alone or Sami's other pairings.

The first episode of Days that I ever watched, as a 9 year old boy, was when Austin hit Sami with his car and she went into a coma. I was hooked. Sami was my favourite character through those years and I will always appreciate the work Alison has done over the years. While Sami is definitely not my favourite character in Salem anymore, she is just such an important part of the show for me and I will miss her. That said, I'm very excited to see what the show does with a Sami-free canvas.

This begins to explain the random WTF of the recent male / female shifting. When AS leaves (and I'm guessing JS leaves) then two of the characters with the most screentime will be gone and the show has to figure out how to restructure to fill that. Her departure may be a year away but they need to test all of these characters out.

Sweeney is at the height of her career now so I'm also guessing she is looking to make the most of it and we will soon hear about an AS talk show. It would be kind of funny if it took Days time slot.
Why do you think JS Will leave too there nothing hint is going to leave and stuff with ej and Abby are pointing that JS not going anywhere
JS is a handsome guy (obviously) and an ok actor, but to be honest, he doesn't have a ton of primetime appeal. His big drawback for casting is that he is waaay too tall. Almost all TV actors, especially primetime, are tiny. You couldn't cast James as a regular in a show without having to find a bunch of taller actors (who were good) to fill out the cast. You can't get away with your leading ladies standing on apple boxes (hello Abby!) to make out with him on primetime tv shows. There are specific things that casting directors look for, and that includes a "fit" on the screen.

JS found a home on DAYS where he's handsomely paid and popular. I doubt he's going anywhere IF he plans to stay acting.
JS talks about leaving acting all the time. I always feel like the odds are 50/50 he won't renew, so it definitely wouldn't surprise me to see him go too.

I agree, James doesn't do much acting outside of Days, even tho it is written into his contract to allow him to do so..His interests lie elsewhere. Look at his photography work...he could easily do that instead.

I don't see his height as an issue. Alexander Skarsgard, Ted Danson, Peter Krause, Jim Caviezel, Michael Weatherly are all 6'2" plus. Even Jim Parsons from Big Bang Theory is 6'2" while his co-star Johnny Galecki is 5'5".

I just don' t think James wants to be that well known.

The best way for story to Sami consider to dead and than have story of ej and Lucas fighting on kids
There more story if Sami will be gone only

Lucas and EJ canīt fight over the kids because EJ doesnīt have any rights to Allie, and Lucas doesnīt have any rights to Johnny and Sydney.

What she do with the kids will she kidnap from their fathers and they will never see them again

Sami kids are important to the show so I donīt see her leaving with them (unless Ejami were to leave together) they will have to kill her off or recast her. Maybe she could leave and just take Sydney with her if Allie and Johnny is sorased and old enough to decide that they want to stay with their fathers.
Well if Sami leaves it in her Will that she wants Lucas to raise all the kids then heck yeah they can fight for the kids...seriously....it's that easy.
I think it's more likely that they'll sort things out with the kids before Sami goes. I always figured they'd set things "right" (whatever that may be) on the last episode. Days doesn't usually like characters to have young kids with several different people.

Has anyone considered that Days breakneck taping schedule is burning out the talent and causing them to leave? Eileen Davidson hinted at it. Chandler Massey complained he didn't have time to finish school and experience a normal life. Casey Diedrick and Camila Banus wanted to explore other career options. Let's be honest, being on DAYS lately does NOT give the cast much flexibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if Alison is simply burned out and frustrated.
Actually, "Days" tapes much less than they used to overall, so actors actually have more flexibility nowadays. Prior to 2009, "Days" would tape pretty much every weekday, except for the occasional holiday break, and actors would never know too far in advance when they might have a day or two off. Now, actors know a year in advance exactly what weeks they will have off, so if their contracts allow, they can schedule appearances on other shows during the many dark weeks "Days" does not tape. Also, "Days" used to tape well into the night, sometimes past midnight and they would also sometimes tape on Saturdays! Now, actors know they will be out of work by 6PM at the latest and they can have a set routine and know they will be home to eat dinner. So, although they now tape 8 episodes a week as opposed to 5 episodes a week, in the long run, they get like 14 or 15 weeks off where they can schedule vacations or do other work, and they are home each night for dinner or to help their kids with homework.
Yes, but I still have to wonder whether this newer system is better than the older one. Why did they change it then? Has there been an explanation?

I fail to see how Ali leaving automatically means James is leaving. It's not like James only likes working with Ali. He's been pretty vocal about enjoying working with his other female co-stars as well.

I am also wondering why everyone seems certain NBC will see this show to its 50th anniversary....I know it is only 2 years away...but if the show is losing money for NBC, no way in hell they just give it a pass for 2 years to get it to 50.

Has NBC ever commented about getting it to 50? Or are we all just assuming NBC will be that nice :) (and if that is the case...you know what they say about assuming!)
I don't think it's assuming, I call it confidence. Also, the fact is that the ratings are up, and if the show wasn't cancelled in 2011 when they were actually horrible and abysmal, I don't think they'll do it now. It also cannot be forgotten that no matter the ratings the show garnered extreme praise for it's improvement last year. Even though ratings are the eventual clincher, the portion of positive media cannot be underestimated. Like take GH for instance, yes they have had gains but they have been slow, yet the show is doing better than ever and just last week the head of ABC something said that he wants for GH to be on a long time. I believe at least half of GH's success and reneissance has been due to the positive and highly profiled press and media.
