I took a few minutes this morning to really take this in...here are my thoughts....
I think if this announcement had come sometime in 2006 or 2007, I would have been devastated, today I'm just sad. Sad because I've had to mourn Sami for the past few years and with this announcement today, I really am sort of relieved. I'm relieved that this show can no longer harm her. Let's face it there is very little left to make her even more unlike the Sami that I loved. Sami wasn't a cheater, yet she became one. The Sami who we saw take a gun and castrate her first rapist, managed to forgive, forget and fall in love with her other one. The Sami that finally landed a guy like Rafe who although I didn't particularly like, was very much like Austin to her...a good guy that had Sami's best interests at heart....managed to cheat on him with the likes of the man that joked about putting a doppelganger of her husband in her bed. The Sami that spent so much time 'doing this or that for Will'...didn't even care that people would blackmail him.
I'm glad with Sami being off canvas, these types of story lines that ruined her for me won't be told any longer. I'm hopeful that maybe when Sami comes back (and let's face it...she will) the story that brings her back will be one that renews the Sami I loved....
In the end, I can't say I'm looking forward to her leaving, I'd be lying...because so much of the last 20 years of my life has been spent loving, hating, questioning, crying, laughing, or at times loving to hate my Sami....she is such a central part of Days that I can only imagine a great way to write her off is to kill this Sami we see on screen somehow in the most dramatic way possible and tell the story of her 'men' mourning, and moving on without her. Or have Lucas and Ej fighting over the kids somehow. I won't lie because I know Bryan isn't on contract, so what might come from this might not be very good for me personally as he's my absolute favorite...or it might actually work out for him and Lucas in the end...who knows.
I'll be truthful with what I think will happen. I think Ali is pretty much doing what Kim M did at GH. She's taking herself out of the equation and moving on to better things, just as the show kicks off it's 50th year. The 50th in some way is going to be all about Sami Gene Brady also...even if she's not around.
I wish Ali all the best....family is the most precious thing. Kids grow up so fast and before you know it they are 16 and in high school. She needs to cherish that time and take every moment in.....but she'll be back at Days...before we know it....and frankly the break is needed....it is really is..for her and for the fans. Lucas is my favorite also. My hope is that Sami and Lucas will reconnect somehow possibly after the whole Ejabby reveal. Maybe they even get married if Sami knows she is dying and want Lucas to have the kids. I even think Kate might miss her. Just don't kill Lucas off. :frownie:

I like Martha a lot as an actress, but does anyone else want a recast Belle if she's returning? She always seemed miscast to me. Nah. If Martha isn't playing her, I would rather not see Belle back on the canvas. She is the only reason that I ended up liking the character in the first place (Kirsten Storms, in my opinion, was terrible) and truly made the role her own. I would not be opposed to a new Shawn though.

I don't think Sami will die, I think that's only what AS wishes would happen. She probably feels that if Sami died, then everyone would end up with the same outcome. Nobody would win Sami - Lucas, EJ or Rafe.
As for her coming back to Days, I doubt she is, IMO. I doubt very highly that Days will continue for very much longer. AS leaving the show after so many other staple characters will hurt it IMO, and the silence on the renewal of the show is ominous. Even if it's renewed, it probably not be further than 2015 and AS will be filming until the end of the year, so that will carry into May 2015 anyways. Sami is a love/hate character and I think she will be missed, considering that she and EJ Dimera seem to be the topic of converstation just about all over the internet in some way or another.
Days is losing its "face" characters. The vets are all gone save a very few, almost all vet couples are all split up, and the new characters are lacking lustre. The storylines are repetetive and though some start off promising, they fall flat shortly after with no buildup or completion.
Finally, KC's dream of Days' future doesn't interest me. Turning EJ into Stephano 2.0 and having Rafe battling against his evil forces is the last thing I want to watch. DOOL would not resemble anything its viewers used to love to watch in either characters or storylines.

MM never seemed right for the part, in my opinion. Too "mature" - the exact opposite of Kirsten Storms who actually seems like she could be related to Sami with that attitude and spunk and immaturity that MM never had in the role.
I think bringing Belle back is an excellent idea (bonus points for Jason Cook as Shawn), but only if they recast Belle.

If she had announced this 7 years ago I'd be sad. But Sami died a long time ago so I have already forgotten her and no longer care. A couple years ago I would have been ecstatic if JS left too but now with Ejabby he should stay. Why the hell would I want to watch Sami and her rapist ride off in the sunset happily together?

The more I think about it, the more I think they should kill off Sami by natural causes and leave no room for a return. Give her a short but sweet exit storyline where she comes to terms with her illness, re-lives her past and regrets some things, making amends to people she's wronged, etc, and have her die surrounded by her loved ones...EJ goes to the mansion and sits in the dark, drinking and smoking Cubans, waving a concerned Stefano away, and when he emerges from his shell, he goes back to the Dark Side and gives NO FUCKS about who he screws over on his quest to make DiMera the feared-worldwide empire it used to be. Marlena is devastated at the loss of another child, as is Chris Kositchek Roman...John who helped raise her is crushed, Eric, Brady, Caroline, Lucas, Rafe... the impact could be monstrous and really give the other actors some good meaty material to work with as they adjust to life without her...it would effect Nicole via Eric, Kate via Lucas. There is just so much they can do and should do for the show, rather than just for the sake of one character who has been on the front-burner - and a shadow of her former self - for far too long now. In my opinion, Ali did some of her best work when Sami was on death row for the murder of Franco - no makeup, no hair...just raw emotion that didn't involve stomping and squishy crying faces.

Interesting....
Has anyone considered that Days breakneck taping schedule is burning out the talent and causing them to leave? Eileen Davidson hinted at it. Chandler Massey complained he didn't have time to finish school and experience a normal life. Casey Diedrick and Camila Banus wanted to explore other career options. Let's be honest, being on DAYS lately does NOT give the cast much flexibility.
I wouldn't be surprised if Alison is simply burned out and frustrated. I have seen many of the actors praise the taping schedule because it gives them alot of weeks off over the year, many more than in the past.
As for Casey Diedrick and Camila Banus wanting to explore other career options, that goes for most of the younger actors when their contracts are up.

I think even after AS leaves and if the show continues for maybe a few more years, she could still come back and Sami could get a happy ending with Lucas when the show actually does close up shop. Everyone thinking Sami is dead and she shows up and Lucas realizes that Sami is the only woman he ever loved. I think Lucas was Sami's perfect fit and he always made Sami likeable. And I do remember AS saying in an interveiw a few years ago that even though the show had Sami focusing on EJ, she always thought that Lucas was Sami's soulmate and I agree.

In my opinion, Ali did some of her best work when Sami was on death row for the murder of Franco - no makeup, no hair...just raw emotion that didn't involve stomping and squishy crying faces. This would be the best way to repair the damage of having Sweeney the "STAR" or "FACE" of "Days of Our Lives.
I do not understand how and why the massive amount of people controlling and guiding the vision and promotion of this show decided that Alison could be up there with the greats that have been Iconic Leading Ladies (i.e.: Dee, Susan Hayes, Susan Flannery, Patsy Pease, etc...). She never carried this show to the top like many have, and she never had the breakout popularity like TPTB have tried to summon. Kristian Alfonso and Deidre Hall went on to have success in Prime Time ACTING. Both female stars returned to the show to have success in the 1990's, leading Days to HUGE ratings gains and recognition. People who did not know about the show, or watch daytime, knew "Days" was a powerhouse show in the 1990's, Alison may have been on in the 1990's, but she was a semi-vicious, pesky fly. That is what Sami was intended to be for the younger set, and it never worked for the show for her to go from the insecure and evil little pest, to the leading female star of the show. Track "Days" placement in the ratings pack and tell me it worked.
IF ratings gains are wanted......promote it (which they are over a year in advance), and like I wrote earlier, kill her off in a very dramatic way over a series of many episodes, while other well crafted stories involving vets, and a returning young heroine or current back player (Christie Clarke, Martha Madison or Arianne Zucker will do), explode to keep viewers watching the Sami culmination interested during the fallout of her death, and the build to the climax of other stories. It would once again over promote her and make her more important than she is, but if it helps summon in a new era.....Good.
I guess as a very longtime viewer of this show, I am just a bit irritated that it takes her leaving to end this madness. Sami was fun to watch once and I loved the character. The fact is, she filled shoes her character was not designed to fill. Christie Clark was the obvious person groomed to fill that void. Zucker can really act, and she is tied to Eric, so she is a possibility. We will see.

This pissed me off years ago how they got rid Of Carrie and promoted Sami to lead actress...it would have been like pushing Vivian to lead actress and got rid of Kate Sami was the villain the obstacle for Carrie and Austin she got Rewarded In The end she better not get a grand send off because I can count 10 others who left who never got anything

I donīt know if I would be as happy about an Ejami wedding as I would have been in the past but I think I would still like to see one. Maybe Ejami can get married and then the truth about Abby comes out at the reception or follow them on their honeymoon and break the news. After that Lumi can get back together and have a wedding too.

Brandon cheated, Ej's now cheated. Austin wasn't for her, and he loved Carrie....Lucas and Sami are truly cut from the same cloth....it's that simple.

I've always thought that Lumi's was the most believable love story of any of the Sami pairings. Brandon cheated, Ej's now cheated. Austin wasn't for her, and he loved Carrie....Lucas and Sami are truly cut from the same cloth....it's that simple. Nahhhhh.
Lucas is WAY to good for Sami and has been for a long time.
