I literally can't even process this. Never in a million years did I think that I would see this headline. |

So like, obviously she's not leaving to spend more time with her kids. She hasn't cared much about spending time with them in the past. What are the possibilities? 1) NBC is giving her a new show and removing her from Days. 2) NBC is renewing Days but cutting funds which lowers Ali's salary enough that she wants/is forced to leave. 3) An entity other than NBC has pressured Days to cut Ali as a contingency of the (probable) renewal. 4) Ali has another career plan (movies?) and wants to leave. Any other ideas? The fact that she mentions her kids makes it very clear to me that there's some other reason behind it. |

ALISON SWEENEY'S 21+ YEARS IN A ROW ON CONTRACT ENDS AS FIFTH-LONGEST STREAK IN "DAYS" HISTORY Alison Sweeney's 21+ years on contract uninterrupted will end as the fifth-longest streak in "Days of Our Lives" history. Besides original cast members Frances Reid (Alice, 1965-2010), John Clarke (Mickey, 1965-2004) and Macdonald Carey (Tom, 1965-1994), only Drake Hogestyn (John, 1986-2009) has had a longer uninterrupted run on contract with the show. |

I can see NBC trying to improve their faltering daytime schedule with "The Alison Sweeney Show." Ali could be the new Oprah. |

I honestly don't think this makes any sense, but I imagine she'll have another project at some point. For her sake, it better be right on top of her exit, lol. |

LOL. Isn't that sad?! The woman does like to stay busy. It's amazing her kids even know who she is. I wouldn't be surprised if she was given some kind of talk show or something. It seems like something Ali would leave Days to do. |

Days is definitely getting renewed. NBC won't cancel a show that is posting such significant viewership gains from last year. Soaps are booming, it would be nuts not to renew at this point. |

I will miss Ali, but I could use a break from Sami. I have no doubt that Ali as Sami will be back on DAYS again someday. Hope James Scott as EJ stays though. |

maybe she'll do half a dozen exit interviews & slightly change her story every time until we kinda sort-of start to see the real picture. ;) |

This. I wish Ali good luck, I think she deserves it. She's a very intelligent, beautiful, abitious and talented young woman who can retire at 37 and spend the rest of her live with her family on the money earned and work only if she wants to. She lives the true American dream. Personally I do hope that she goes out Breaking Bad style. It would be poetic justice IMO. |

Been watching this show on & off for 30 years. And when Deidre Hall left to do a primetime show (Our House) I remember my mom and other people wondering if the show would survive because Marlena was the star of the show. . .and the show moved on without her and did just fine. DAYS will do fine without AS. Heck, she may even come back for a guest stint if they do a 50 year episode, which I do not doubt. Just glad that real talents like AZ and KM will get some extra airtime. And EJ will become tolerable again once he's out of Sami's orbit. Unless we hear rumblings of NBC developing new daytime programming, I doubt DAYS is going anywhere. The show still makes money from an established fan base, and it costs a FORTUNE to launch new daytime programming. Look at how Katie Couric's show failed, and she was a name (on a different network). NBC will ride DAYS until at least the 50 year anniversary to take advantage of all the promotional opportunities it can get with bringing old cast members back. After that, who knows how long the show will last. |

The first words that popped into my head! My second thoughts after the initial shock? I have a dream that in one year, I can log onto this board without having to sift through Sami fanbase wars. I have a dream that I will be able to turn on Days and not watch Sami throw a tantrum. I have a dream that more characters will get her screen time. I have a dream that not every story line will revolve around Sami Brady. I have a dream! Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last! :drunk: :cheer: |

James joined the show when they were still only taping a few weeks in advance, so his contract cycles end in May each year. He's either up for renewal this May or next May. Edited by Jason47, Jan 21 2014, 01:19 AM.

I feel the exact same way. I used to be a fan, but since she's taken over the whole show I just cannot stand her or enjoy the show the way I used to. I wouldn't mind her coming back after a long break, but with less screentime. I do hope other characters and better actors get a chance to shine now. I wish her well though and respect that she wants to take time off to be with her kids. Days has been keeping her very, very busy for a long time and I'm sure her kids will be happy to have her home more. |

I think it's in November now. It shifted when he had those contract negotiations in 2011. I think. |
