It's going to be really interesting to see where the storylines will go after Ali's gone. As much as I hate how overused Sami became during the past 10 years or so, there's a small-ish part of me that'll miss her. Fingers Xed for some sweet Lumi moments before she leaves..

And HALLELUJAH for Ari Zucker becoming the show's leading lady (that better happen, Days, or..)

I really don't care how she leaves. My preference would be for her to be treated like all the other vets when they leave, but she hasn't been treated like a vet yet, so I doubt they'll start then.
So in other words, tossed in a vet closet, taken out occasionally on ratings grabber episodes, given ridiculous (if any) storylines and generally written in a way that makes you wish the character were dead rather than on-air?

Or actually killed off?

Wow, that was cathartic.
Welcome to TPTB and Days of our Lives.

Oh, and can I just say that the "two week vacation" stuff is so annoying. It's HER CHOICE. She appeared on TBL less than 2 weeks after she gave birth (!) so she could use her unique talents to ask people to step forward for weigh-ins. She did extra pre-taping during the end of both pregnancies, hardly a time to work more, so that she wouldn't be offscreen. She makes it sound like Days is some type of slave labor camp that wouldn't let her out.

Quoting limited to 4 levels deep
I think that might be exactly what happened.
Just checked the DR archives. His contracts are still ending in May. It's just that the news was announced in October 2011.

Here's the DR post from October 2011:

"No sooner did Digest hear that James Scott (EJ) would be written out of Salem after he was unable to come to terms on a new deal with the show came word that negotiations had begun again. Now, it's all set and the actor has agreed to a new, one-year deal to stay in Salem until April 2013."
I think that was what was assumed at the time, but not what actually happened. At this exact moment I can't remember if that November date was something James has mentioned or if it came out somewhere else.
It's April 25, 2013, or at least his last contract was.

Can't get any more confirmation than this...he is interviewed on November 5, 2011 at the Day of Days event and says he signed the contract at 2PM the day before (November 4, 2011) and it runs through April 25, 2013. So, after a good googling, we finally have the correct details. His contracts still end at the end of April each year. So his contract will be up either this April or next April.

Well, if we're talking specifically on an exit...shipped to Switzerland with no fanfare.
Or, since Australia seems to be the new Africa, she could go on walkabout.

Some gals have all the luck!

I'm no Sami/AS fan but this reeks of doom for Days, IMO.

aSo like, obviously she's not leaving to spend more time with her kids. She hasn't cared much about spending time with them in the past.

What are the possibilities?

1) NBC is giving her a new show and removing her from Days.

2) NBC is renewing Days but cutting funds which lowers Ali's salary enough that she wants/is forced to leave.

3) An entity other than NBC has pressured Days to cut Ali as a contingency of the (probable) renewal.

4) Ali has another career plan (movies?) and wants to leave.

Any other ideas? The fact that she mentions her kids makes it very clear to me that there's some other reason behind it.
New show as what? I don't know about the remainder of the list but #1 and "movies" as a new career plan are clearly off the table. She cannot act.I cannot imagine a show concept that could play to her skillset that viewers would watch for any length of time.I don't watch Biggest Loser but even the snippets I have seen do not impress.

Agreed!! She also could've asked for lower guarantees when she renewed her contracts.
And, let's not forget about the fact that she's releasing a new novel that she must've spent quite a lot of time writing.

With her gone, just how many of the shows skilled actors can be squeezed into the amount of time her stories took up, when she wasn't taking over their stories?

THIS MANY:

I will miss Sami. I've watched the show for 30 yrs but when Sami came along SHE was the reason I have always tuned in, to see what Sami was up to. I LOVE LOVE LOVE me EJ Dimera but he really hasn't been the same since Hogan S. and Ed Scott left so I don't really see myself tuning in for the mess they make of him.

I have nothing but respect for Alison Sweeney, I wish her the best.

I hope Sami leaves the show is a BLAZE OF GLORY!!!!

I will miss Sami, but Sweeney's salary alone could probably bring back 2-3 other characters. I would imagine she's the highest paid actress on the show.
I see this thread is bringing out the big guns.I have never seen a founder post on this site in the years I have lurked then posted.I look forward to interesting week or so in this thread.
:run:

I rarely comment or discuss the show anymore due to time issues. Also, watching the show spoiler free makes it so much better.

I can see Days getting it's 50th Anniversary show as a fond farewell and being replaced by the Ali Sweeney show. Many people, tho not so much on this board, relate to her thru Days or TBL and I can see NBC thinking it will smooth over the bad feelings that will come with the show's cancellation.

Weren't there rumors awhile back of Ali getting her own talk show or at least a seat on a new show, something akin to The View or The Talk?

I definitely don't think it is a good sign. No renewal information and now their biggest star is leaving. I hope we get more information soon.

Oh believe me, I'm not saying a new show or a movie is a good idea. But it could make sense. NBC has her hosting one show and starring in another. What's to say they wouldn't try something else with her? As for movies, Ali apparently thinks she can be a fitness guru, working parent advocate, reality show hostess, daytime actress, and now fiction author. So she wouldn't also try to break into film?

LOL - you're assuming she wrote it. She didn't even write her own blogs, and her "Mommy Diet" book had a ghostwriter.
