I can see Days getting it's 50th Anniversary show as a fond farewell and being replaced by the Ali Sweeney show. Many people, tho not so much on this board, relate to her thru Days or TBL and I can see NBC thinking it will smooth over the bad feelings that will come with the show's cancellation.
that wont smooth things over

I'm no Sami/AS fan but this reeks of doom for Days, IMO.
I don't know. I mean, eventually it really will be the end. But the show has also weathered a lot of harbingers of doom.

So like, obviously she's not leaving to spend more time with her kids. She hasn't cared much about spending time with them in the past.
You do not know how much time she spends with her kids. Being career oriented doesn't mean she doesn't care about her kids.

y r ppl thinking this is a doom for days stop thinking negative thoughts. The only ppl to blame r AS when she could have done a deal for lower episode guarantee and gone for more vacations. the other person i blame is corday for being to reliant on alison and another person i blame is sony and nbc. I feel the show will be renewed and the show will still stand. if u guys think this will be a doom for days then u guys were too reliant on AS as well.

Weren't there rumors awhile back of Ali getting her own talk show or at least a seat on a new show, something akin to The View or The Talk?
I do remember hearing something about that

I agree. I think it's kind of an insult to all the talented actors on the show (vets and newbies) when people start assuming the show will be cancelled because one actor is leaving. I heard this same kind of talk when JS was in contract negotiations but he ended up staying.

Big business decisions about cancelling a show aren't about one actor in an ensemble cast. It's about whether it still makes money --- OR if it's replacement will lose less money.

I can see DAYS being renewed through a 50th season, and then the network calling it a day. But as it stands, the show is doing better than it has in years both ratings and even awards/recognition wise. It stands a better chance at being renewed now than it did two years ago, IMO.

The next Sami is Theresa. Bet on it. She already worships at Sami's altar.

I can see NBC trying their hand at a roundtable talker like "The View" and "The Talk" with Ali being the moderator.

i feel this is a good thing. I want other characters to shine now. I'm done with Sami and have been for quite sometime. It was time for her to move on. I wont miss her at all.
I feel the exact same way. I used to be a fan, but since she's taken over the whole show I just cannot stand her or enjoy the show the way I used to. I wouldn't mind her coming back after a long break, but with less screentime. I do hope other characters and better actors get a chance to shine now. I wish her well though and respect that she wants to take time off to be with her kids. Days has been keeping her very, very busy for a long time and I'm sure her kids will be happy to have her home more.
Honestly, she really does look tired. Some commented on how tired her eyes look and when I saw her on screen today she just looked worn down.Maybe she does just want to spend time with her kids.Look at Eileen Davidson.Sometimes you just realize what is important in life.If she does not spend time with her children now,she is giving up a life experience that she will not be able to get back.At this point I have decided I will take her at her word.

I will miss AS though.I've always been a Lumi first and foremost.I do wonder if they'll kill her off ,give her a happily even after ,or send her somewhere to make a comeback easier.

Maybe they'll just send her off Regina George style. It could be many people driving that bus.A who done it???

If NBC did that, I wonder how AS would feel about making her "family" of the last 22 years suddenly unemployed for a daytime talk show starring herself??? I just don't see that.

I definitely don't think it is a good sign. No renewal information and now their biggest star is leaving. I hope we get more information soon.
NBC really needs to announce whether or not they are renewing Days.

While AS leaving the show doesn't mean the show won't survive but.
maybe she is privy to info about Days future.
What I want to know is why is she announcing this on Ellen ?

I think it's weird that she announced it on Ellen, too, but she announced her last contract renewal on a talk show.

no one said she doesn't care about her kids.
there are only so many hours in a day, & if she's working almost 5 days a week on Days, plus filming BL multiple times a week (including weekends), doing magazine shoots every few months, putting out books, doing commercials, etc., how many hours can she really spend with her kids? The point is that she's been doing this boatload of projects for years & years, and is only now stating she wants to spend more time with her kids. Why hasn't she asked for a decrease in her guarantee? Why hasn't she given the BL voiceover duties to someone else? etc. There are many things she could've done over the past few years to decrease her workload, thus increasing the physical hours she has in her day to spend with her kids.

Not to be misunderstood, I don't think Days needs AS to be a successful show. I just think their time is running out...they've been last in demos, last in share, the overall numbers are up, but other soaps are up more, NBC is moving out of the building, the renewal announcement hasn't come yet...

So assuming there are no underlying reasons for Ali leaving this frees up some money to bring back other people.Of course I want to see Bryan offered a contract but I'd love to see Carrie and Belle back.
