Never in doubt for me. Knew they'd get a two year deal. I think AS is leaving partly because she feels the show can move forward without her successfully, so she gave the writers time to give Sami a send off while building up other characters to take her place. One thing that I have no doubt about is that AS is very loyal to Days, and she wouldn't leave the show if she felt it was in any kind of trouble. If the show was on the brink, she'd have stayed until the end.

Jen Lilley will be the next Allison Sweeney, and I for one, welcome this with open arms.
I find it hilarious that people think one actress saved Days, but it's downright ridiculous if AS thinks she saved Days.

I agree that Theresa will be the "new Sami."

I'm happy about this news. I've taken several breaks from watching Days for certain periods but it was always good to know it was there when I wanted to return. Hope they have some good things in store for the 50th.

Congrats Days!! :cheer:

I was pretty sure this was happening but it's good to see it in print.

Days makes it to the 50 mark.

As it should be.

Congrats Days! I'm so glad they got the two years. I thought they would. Who didn't? lol But it's so nice that it's confirmed after the shake up with AS yesterday.

She believed it because TIIC kept telling her she was the star of the show etc.

I can understand why she'd think she was essential to the future of the show.

NBC RENEWS ACCLAIMED DAYTIME DRAMA ‘Days Of Our Lives’ THROUGH 2015-16 SEASON

Days Of Our Lives Will Celebrate its 50th Anniversary in November 2015

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – Jan. 22, 2014 – NBC has extended its long-running daytime drama "Days Of Our Lives" for an additional two years, taking the show through September 2016. ‘Days’ will celebrate its 50th year on television in November 2015, continuing its tradition of passion, intrigue and adventure and cementing its place in television history.

The extension was announced today by Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment.

“‘Days Of Our Lives’ continues to be a fan favorite for the daytime audience and we are thrilled to keep it going through its 50th season,” said Salke. “‘Days’ has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics and remains both relevant and fresh creatively due to the hard work of the producers, writers, cast and crew who have worked tirelessly to make ‘Days’ the ratings success it is today.

“Having won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama, “Days Of Our Lives” continues to deliver on its legacy of quality storytelling,” said Steve Kent, Senior EVP, Programming, Sony Pictures Television. “We appreciate NBC’s continued support and are excited to celebrate the show’s 50thanniversary with our generations of dedicated fans.”

“We are thrilled to continue being a part of the NBC family and to have the support of our incredible network and studio executives who work tirelessly to allow us to continue telling our stories and share the ‘Days’ legacy with our devoted family of fans," said Ken Corday, executive producer "Days of our Lives."

“Days of our Lives” currently is delivering its best season in women 18-49 viewers in three years and biggest season in total viewers in four years. Executive producer Ken Corday follows in the tradition of his parents, Betty and Ted Corday, who co-created "Days of our Lives" and helmed the series for many years. “Days” (Monday-Friday, 1-2 p.m. ET) first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later.

In its 48-plus years, “Days of our Lives” has garnered 232 Daytime Emmy nominations and 36 wins, including a recent Emmy win for Outstanding Daytime Drama. The show's success derives from its consistent commitment to excellence in writing and storytelling -- supported by a diverse ensemble of performers -- and an uncanny knack for anticipating viewer interests. "Days” is set in the fictitious Midwestern town of Salem. The core families are the Bradys, the Hortons and the DiMeras. The multi-layered storylines involve elements of romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama.

“Days of our Lives” is produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Corday is executive producer with co-executive producers Greg Meng and Lisa De Cazotte. Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell are the head writers.
Yay :cheer: I am so happy. Congratulations to all the days cast and crew. :whooohooo:

Whatever they do for their 50th should be (a) about Tom & Alice, in some way, & (b) a nod to something that's happened in the past. They also need to start collecting beloved ex-cast members to reprise their characters, even if only for a few weeks.

Now we can finally rest easy. Although it wasn't really in doubt for me. The ratings, the press releases, and even that Emmy. You can tell in the behind-the-scenes videos where the executives would speak to the cast (on anniversary days) that they really appreciated the hard work done by the show in trimming the budget (salaries, sets, taping, etc.) while still putting out a fairly good product then (after MarDar) and a great product now. In fact, Days is the strongest it's been since the Nicole/Sami baby switch storyline, in my opinion (and the ratings seem to agree).

I'm also thrilled that they'll be able to celebrate 50 years. What an accomplishment! I hope they go all out, like GH reportedly has done (I don't watch the show myself). Would be great to see a lot of familiar faces make their returns. I hope the show has been paying attention to how GH pulled off their 50th and do the same.

But this is great day indeed. Congrats to the actors, writers, producers, crew, etc. They should feel so proud to have gotten this renewal in this day-and-age of soaps. Well done!

Great news. I hope they bring back a lot of people next year for the 50th. Make it a big event on the show, like some fundraiser or something like GH did with their Nurses Ball.

TVLine posted their article about this and they used an Ericole pic to illustrate it. http://tvline.com/2014/01/22/days-of-our-lives-renewed-nbc-september-2016/

Great news - 2 years is definitely a vote of confidence. Days stuck it out through the tough times (GL/AMC/OLTL cancellations) and now soaps are on the upswing. Hopefully they'll do even better and 2016 won't be the end.
