Abby is held to a higher standard than Sami because she's Abby, not Sami. Sami is, historically, a total screw up and, depending on your point of view, full on evil. Abby is, historically, a good person who has made some mistakes.

Besides which, Sami has received plenty of criticism for all those things mentioned. Many people hated her when she cheated on Rafe. Many people have called her on being with a man who committed all of those crimes against her and her family (including me). Many, many people criticized EJ for sleeping with Taylor (including me).

There isn't a double standard going on, at least not the way you think there is. Sami has never been written (at least for all that long) to be a good person who makes good decisions. Abby, generally, has. It's why a Brady who breaks the law is raked over the coals, but if a Dimera or Kiriakis does the same thing, it's just what they do. That's how the characters have been developed and the difference standards should apply.
Yeah.. but isn't it boring with all good persons in Horton family? I applauds them for letting Abby getting her hands dirty - so to speak - and become a bit greyish, like her father before her.

I think we all (well some of us) was complaining that she was boring etc. This way things get more interesting. I am more than willing to overlook that because she is as we stated young. She is now starting to form a life for her. How she chooses to live the life is up to her. If she wants bad wolf EJ in her life I am not going to judge her. She must realise though that that kind of life requires that she is grey - but she seems willing to accept it. I actually think opposite can attract and work very well.
Jack hasn't been grey since about 1990 and the whole point of his story was the redemption. This idea that Abby would be "grey, like her dad" is completely inconsistent with anything that Abby has ever said or done (including the Austin thing). And, again, having sex with an engaged man isn't "bad." It's sex.

But, if they want her to be "grey" (whatever the hell that means), then they need to TELL THE STORY. Explain why she suddenly doesn't care about her family and what they've been through.

Good girls (or guys) do not have to be boring if they bother to tell an actual story and not just throw them into plots that go against their natures without saying WHY. That's the problem here. There is no WHY.

Quoting limited to 4 levels deep
All roads always lead to Sami and her stupid decisions. Apparently, every character is justified in the way they react to a particular situation because of Sami or Will.

Anyway, Adrianne hates EJ and reacts strongly to him, so, it would make sense if she tells us why she dislikes him so much, specially when her niece is being an ass to her.
I bring up characters engaging in the same/similar behavior who receive no critism.I brought up Chad when I saw posts that Abby was too short to be with EJ but I could recall no such criticism when she was with Chad when both men are exactly the same height,6'4'',in fact many posters shipped Abby and Chad.I brought up Will's behavior when Gabi was criticized for engaging in criminal behavior and "allowing" herself to be manipulated by Nick and many wanted her to pay for her crimes by going to jail and have Will and Sonny raise her baby.I brought up EJ when Rafe was criticized for yelling at Sami and treating her like a child but the same criticism was not leveled when EJ yelled at her and treated her like a child ,EJ's behavior was seen as a sign of "true love" between "soulmates".
If I believe the comparison is apt,I use it.The only reason I brought up Sami is because I don't understand why Abby is always held to a higher standard than other characters.Abby should feel bad about for having sex with EJ while EJ is engaged to Sami but EJ should not be criticized for having sex with Taylor while married to Nicole and Sami should not be criticized for having sex with EJ while married to Rafe.Abby should also feel bad because of EJ and Sami's kids but those kids existed when Sami and EJ committed adultery but I don't recall any concern for the kids when both committed adultery.Abby should feel bad for having sex with EJ who did bad things to her uncle and cousin but Sami has no reason to feel bad about getting engaged and married to EJ who has kidnapped her child, told her said child was dead, blackmailed her into giving up custody of her children, forced her to tell her son that she did not love him,put an imposter with a criminal record in her home as her husband and parent to their children and this does not include the things Stefano and Kristen have done to members of her immediate family including her beloved twin brother.I am trying to understand why Abby gets a lot of criticism others do not even though they have engaged or are engaging in behavior that is much worse.
Abby is held to a higher standard than Sami because she's Abby, not Sami. Sami is, historically, a total screw up and, depending on your point of view, full on evil. Abby is, historically, a good person who has made some mistakes.

I only disagree a different stardards should apply for the characters.I don't think I could like Abby as much as I do now if she or EJ were married.

You know, I may be fanwanking but I really do love the choice that EJ got into Abigail's good graces pre-affair by praising Jack. Jack is a good role model for EJ, as he spent years being a total villain who was the town pariah to gradually becoming an upstanding citizen and atoning for his crimes. Yes, I know you can't compare the writing for EJ and Jack, but still, I like the idea that EJ would see something appealing in Jack's story.

And I like the fact that the loss of Abigail's father is finally being written as affecting her in a deep and psychological way. She was drawn to a sophisticated, well-educated guy with a very troubled past who praised her dead father who was a sophisticated, well-educated guy with a very troubled past. I can even fanwank that her obnoxious Daniel propping was some sort of psych 101 denial of loss, loss that has been uncorked now that she's with EJ.

So, when Aunt Adrienne questioned why she might be hanging out with EJ, sure it's about defending her lover in a visceral way but I hope it's also about finally being grateful that someone acknowledged to her that Jack was a special man - one who cannot immediately be replaced. Perhaps she should be thinking of EJ's past, but she wasn't.

Adrienne adored Jack, so I can't buy the "needs EJ to tell her Jack was special" angle. In fact, Adrienne forgave Jack his sins far before pretty much anyone but Jo did.

As for the EJ/Jack comparisons, I just can't. There is no comparison. Not in writing, not in acting, not in the characters themselves.

The huge glaring difference between Ejabby and Ejami is Ej has yet to do anything horrible to Abby. Abby being accepting of Ej may not make a lot of sense but it makes a lot more sense then Sami being accepting of Ej.
Yes, but I think Abby is a bit blind when it comes to EJ. I think really has fallen for EJ and therefore are able to turn a blind side - heck she might even find it exciting to be with a bad man. She did say its like I turn of a switch. She knows that he is bad and engaged to someone else, but she still wants him.

EJ have to be with a woman that are willing to look the other side when it comes to the "crimes" or "bad" things he does.

Its been clear for months - even years before that - Sami is definitely not going to do that. Perhaps because the bad things is affecting her family - but I think its also because Sami can't separate EJ from his family. If someone from EJs family does something - EJ must be involved or he can betray his family to help her etc.

The idea that Sami is bad and therefore Ej and her are perfect dosen't work here anymore. Their history is just to bad for them to be realistically a good villain couple.

Because EJ cheated on Sami with Abby - I personally no longer think that EJ and Sami is good for each other. Life moves on.

What I am seeing between EJ and Abby is exciting. I like it since Abby is Jack's daughter and Abby is a Horton. I want to see drama between the Horton and Dimera. I see potential for this to be a real story about love and lust. They could write this potentially as the families clash because of Abbys love for EJ and vice versa. They tried to write this with Sami - but my problem is with Sami she never seemed to love EJ as much as EJ loved Sami.

Ahh.. babbling here.. I could probably say more but I will stop here.
Not babbling at all.All great points.Don't stop poor fictional Abby needs all the help she can get.As do I.

Adrienne adored Jack and last summer she adored him enough to tell his grieving son that Jennifer had a right to be happy with Daniel.

Exactly!!!! TELL THE FREAKIN' STORY.

You want me to be all excited over Ejami getting together last year? Then tell the story of how they managed to come to a place of forgiveness and understanding.

You want me to understand why John would try to sleep with Kristen to save his son? Then tell the story of how he had exhausted every other option and hated what he had to do.

You want me to care about Abby's walk on the wild side? Then tell the story of how she came to care more about sex than her family's feelings.

You want me to buy that Gabi now sees EJ as her hero and savior? Then tell the story of how his recent actions outweigh her love for her brother.

And on and on and on. If they could tell the story properly, then they could actually create reasons and motivations for characters' actions that would make us care a lot more about their plot points. They're doing it with Ericole, so I know it's possible. That's what great soaps do all the way around.

She did adore him. The scenes surrounding her second wedding to Justin when Jack gave her away are very clear on that (among many others). And Jen did (and does if she chooses) have a right to be happy with Daniel. One thing has nothing to do with the other - particularly in regards to Abby who also told JJ the same thing many times.

Well I'm just speaking for myself. As I said in another post, I have watched on and off since I was 14 and I'm 38 now. With that said,

I missed a lot of the torment they (ejami) did to each other. I have only read it. Some people watched every bit if it, and you may feel strongly because you watched it as it happened.

I don't hate Abby, I've only known her as j&j's baby daughter. (I remember preggo jenn). So I see her going against what I believe she is.

As far as Sami, I remember her as a bad girl, just as I remember EJ as son if Satan Stefano. To me Lucas is too good for Sami, and Rafe as well.

So I guess my point is that i don't push aside the past, I am just basing my feelings on what I remember the characters to be. Maybe my opinion would be completely different if I saw it first hand. I could be wrong, but based on the people I have spoken with, it seems like a similar theme. It just depends in when you started watching.

I just don't get how people get so angry and nasty at each other (especially tweeters) over their difference of opinion. It's just a tv show. I swear some people believe it's real. but I LOVE reading and discussing it in this forum! So much fun!!! Thanks DR!!
Aha! So it wasn't just the merlot.Happy you are sticking around and having fun discussing the show.I'm with you.I am not going to verbally abuse real people because of their opinions of fictional characters.

Fan of EJ+ABBY!

Its true that there are holes in their stories.. but is really just about the writing.

I do applaud them for giving us "shocker" stories and really mixing the character interactions - that was very once sided for a long while (not exciting). But our current story could have been written better at places .. explaining in conversation and actions why certain character acts a certain way. You have to be very obvious when conveying certain things - which they haven't been always.

We have had weird stories before.. does a "egg" ring any bells. This story with Ian was such a waist.. it could have been epic if they had let that character stay on and maybe not letting him being that womans (can't remember her name, which was with brady) husband. If he had been her father instead - which I thought at that time - it would have been more epic. Then letting Ian being EJs real father or.. let him be a brother to Stefano fighting to get Stefanos empire. But atlas.. they totally screw that story.

EJ and Abby is good story.. but its starting point was a bit weak. Still I can accept it since I know Abby has had her eye on EJ and so has EJ - those glances of his at her doesn't lie (obviously then it would never have been something he acted on).

Oh I forgot .. Sami pining for Rafe as he and Sami has ran away to hide EJ from the police. ^o)

Its so funny,.. that story about EJ no longer being Dimera .. really made Sami take the step to let EJ in her life again. And as soon EJ was Dimera again and Ej had to make that deal with Stefano to save her from prison.. suddenly EJ was no longer good enough and she kept him at arms length.

All I can say is, EJ,.. please come to your senses and move on with your freaking life!! You are never happy with her... never have been. Its always something causing a ridge between you two.

The line where EJ says (at 3:30) sometimes Adrienne "has a tendency to latch onto things and won't let go. Believe me I know" as he's stroking his lip and looking at Abby. OMG.
Good acting choice on JS' part. I think this is shaping up to be that BOTH EJ and Abby will not be walking away from each other any time soon.

I don't really know who to quote, but ITA with you and Espy. Also, one of the things that has majorly driven me away in the last couple of years (though it's been issue for a longer) is the way characters with legitimate conflicts with other characters are treated like they're psycho. It doesn't help that it's generally characters who don't get a whole lot of screentime, so we don't get to actually get their points of view.

Kate sits back down with EJ and comments on Percy's knowledge of birds. Nick acts impressed with that. She wants to know how that translates to cosmetics. Nick talks about chemistry and that people are like chemicals which can be volatile with each other. Kate tells Nick he doesn't have personal chemistry with anyone. I believe he had good personal chemistry with both your daughter AND your granddaughter, Kate.

Apparently Adrienne had seen Ejabby twice, the first time at the pub (I guess the bad man scene) and then later when they were pouring over a book. What's so funny is those moments were fairly innocent.
I haven't seen the episode yet, but I wonder if Adrienne will mention to Will that she saw Ejabby hanging out together? Or maybe Adrienne will mention it to Sonny, and then Sonny will mention it to Will. (Granted, the Ejabby scenes that Adrienne witnessed were prior to the Ejabby affair, but Adrienne might not be specific about the time frame of Ejabby's conversations when she talks to Will or Sonny.) Although Will might initially think that EJ is just trying to keep Abby from talking to Hope, maybe Will could start to suspect that there's more going on than meets the eye. I could envision Will spying on Ejabby because he's worried that EJ might do something bad to Abby in order to keep her from talking to Hope.

If Will does spy on Ejabby, I'm guessing that Will would notice the strong tension between Ejabby. Will knows that Abby is sleeping with an older guy who's in a relationship. Plus, Abby totally freaked out when she thought that Will knew which guy she'd slept with. So, Will could put the clues together and realize that EJ is Abby's secret lover.
Great scenario for Will, but only if he has possession of the Salem brain. Surprise birthday party Will would never be able to deduce the truth.
I think Will and Sonny Will talk about it and compare conversations and decide together that EJ and Abby are an item.

Oh, Abigail schools Adrienne about not judging EJ and tells her that EJ said nice things about Jack. Adrienne puts EJ down and Abigail gets really pissed. EJ overhears and has a pensive look.
Did Adrienne mention to lil Abby what EJ did to her uncle Steve and cousin Stephanie? I hope Adrienne stood up to her. Boy, Abby will really ashamed when the affair becomes public. I bet she won't be as smug.
If Sami can marry EJ after all EJ,Stefano, and Kristin have done to her and her immediate family including their children ,Abby has no reason to be ashamed because of what EJ did to Steve and Stefano.
Just because it's stupid in relation to Sami doesn't make it any less stupid in relation to Abby too. The Abby thing was particularly annoying today because she was acting high and mighty to Adrienne about EJ when Adrienne has tons of valid reasons to hate EJ. I was soooooo wanting Adrienne to go off on her.

I swear Kayla is about the only person in Salem that reacts appropriately about him.
Since Adrienne did not raise any issues about Steve,Kayla has not raised any issue concerning Stephanie, and Abby only told her if she had a problem with what she was doing talk to her about it instead of going to her mother.Abby is twenty something not a teenager and has a right to make her own decisions. The only reason I think Abby has less reason than Sami to be with EJ is because EJ has not done anything directly to Abby,we haven't been given much information about how much if anything Abby knows about what happened with Steve and Stephanie,Adrienne did not raise any significant objections to her husband working with EJ,Steve is not in Salem,Stephanie is not in Salem, none of EJ's really dastardly deeds have been directed toward Jack,Jennifer,or JJ.She is shown to be very protective of Jennifer and JJ.During the baptism she made a comment about the Horton family being dysfunctional but having each other's back when push comes to shove.EJ,Stefano, and Kristin's abusive criminal behavior has been directed at Sami, her children, her brother, her mother, her father, her stepfather, and her stepbrother as well as aunts and uncles I believe although I am not clear on the latter.
