Quoting limited to 4 levels deep Mrs. EJ DiMera @Mrs_EJDiMera 1h @KateMansi @Chrishell7 Abbiwhore really pulls off the wet dog, bitch in heat look! #disgusted.. promo is vile and stopped watching this s/l Chrishell Stause @Chrishell7 1h @Mrs_EJDiMera Well the actress is a kind, lovely person. But she is obviously playing the character so well to cause such a reaction! Xo https://twitter.com/Chrishell7/status/431473806578683904
Well it's kinda hard to not see it as an insult against KM as well. It's not like Abby Horton is a 2D character in a comic book where her physical appearance are all her own. No, Abby's physical appearance belongs to KM. So you can't really say "Abby pulls off the wet dog, b**** in heat look!" without talking about KM as well. I'm glad that CS gave a gentle reminder that the actress portraying the character ;) was a nice person, lol.
How is this different from people calling Sami fat and a pig? That certainly implies the same is true of Ali Sweeney. Let me be clear, I think it's rude as hell to say those things about either actress, but I certainly don't know why it's deemed okay for one and not the other to be insulted about their appearance.
Anybody saying comments like that directly to Ali is an ass too. I don't think anyone said that was okay. Nope, no one said that in this thread.
Point being, Ali has fielded those kind of insults for years and I don't think I've seen anyone comment about how wrong it was. It gives the appearance that because another actress is involved, awareness has suddenly been raised. And honestly, better late than never.
No question that anyone who makes insulting comments directly to any of the actors about their appearance is an ass.

I can't stand nasty tweets like that.
KM did nothing wrong in response. The "aren't you sweet" response tweet was perfect.
I think she should have just left it at that, though. Following it up with a "general" 'fuck off' tweet is not smart. Any idiot knows what she meant by it even though it's general. I think she is justified in the response, but I don't think she should play it that way.
See Ari Zucker, James Scott, Ali Sweeney....etc, etc....for how to play this game. Just don't take the bait and don't respond at all. It just fuels the fire for these people.
Before KM got thrown in the middle of this fanbase war, I've long thought KM could use some twitter lessons about how to tweet about your soap parents who are part of an iconic soap couple on the show. Kate Mansi, please see Jen Lilley on how to create excitement, enthusiasm and show respect to your soap parents and the actors who portray them. She was weak when MA returned, IMO, and seeing how Jen Lilley is with CS and PP, it just reaffirmed my opinion of her that she could have done things soooooo much better.
The fuck off is okay. People are going to have their own reactions and she doesn't need to take lessons from anyone. She isn't the first actor to tell rabid twitter fans to fuck off and she wont the last. GH people do this. RC certainly has and so has Laura Wright when people try to bash her, which reduced because people realized she wasn't going to take their crap. NLG also fights back. I never said she was the first one to do it. I also never said it wasn't 'okay'.
I said it wasn't smart. There's a difference.

Do I think she could ignore it? sure but the choice as to whether to ignore or react doesn't make her decision to react less smart. Its not like she is going to lose her job because she tweeted that, and besides that people can see what the other person tweeted.
This is one of the LW tweets I was referring to. Its not the actual tweet but its references her similar reaction.
Laura Wright þ@lldubs · 25 Sep 2012 Haaa whatever RT @silencesuffers: @lldubs real mature telling a fan to fuck off. 's why no one likes you or your character.

I knew an actress on Another World in the 90s. Well, by knew her, she was a guest at a dinner party I was at. She told the story of a little old lady slugging her on the subway because her character was the interloper in a popular couple. At least now the attacks are virtual!
The tone of the original tweet about Abigail was pretty nasty (and slut shaming which I personally wince at) but I say nasty things about the way the show styles SC and the Daniel character. But I like to confine it to this board, which lots of people are receptive and SC isn't likely to see it. He is a good looking guy, I don't delude myself about that, I just don't like his character or the way he's styled.
I think it's fine for an actor to occasionally respond, but it's probably better to take the high road.

Some fans are crazy. Sometimes they tweet mean things to actors. Sometimes actors respond.
I wish we had some interesting or spoilerish tweets to talk about.

As far as I am concerned though, I am sure the show "orders" or "expects" the actors to engage in a certain amount of tweets every so often. (Unless maybe they are older, LOL, can't see Peggy McKay doing that). I sort of this for the actors because fans feel an entitlement with their subjects and I think the Internet has only heightened. Hate mail has been around for years but it still kept an arm's length from the actors: it going to the studio, technically they don't have to open it, etc. Angry tweets personally directed at the actors not only is in their face but is also in the face of the rest of the public. Its really going over and beyond the call of duty IMO and when the actors tend to lose it, so to speak, I don't blame them.

I have definitely seen people comment on how wrong it is and call people out on twitter and even here about it before. It just hasn't happened in a long time so we forget but I remember it happening. Yeah, I was going to post that I've seen lots of tweets condemning actor bashing on twitter too. It's been a while, but a lot of people protested against nasty tweets sent to AS. Of course, I'm pretty careful about who I follow and what gets into my TL, so maybe that's why.

I don't condone that kind of language but in that person's next tweet she made it clear she was not talking about KM, she was talking about Abby & the storyline. And it's not like KM can't handle it cuz she tweeted that FU instagram after some comments yesterday. Unfortunately with shows encouraging their actors and fan bases to interact so much on social media, you're going to get this kind of thing. And it is unfair to the actors because the actors are out there while the individual tweeps are relatively anonymous.
I haven't checked out Ali Sweeney's twitter account so I don't know if people have tweeted that to her directly which I think is a step up in rudeness from saying it on a website board that she probably doesn't see.
But I agree there is no difference.

I give her leeway its a new medium and people are still learning how to utilise it.
That said I would prefer it if the actors concentrated on acting rather than managing their twitter profiles. I get that its alll intertwined now. But I would just prefer less tweets and better performances.

Talking about someone on a message board and tweeting directly to them are totally different beasts. But if Ali or another actor had to defend Ali it would be a topic on here just like the Kate thing is right now. Ali doesn't reply to the haters and some think that's a good thing. Kate usually only tweets about sunshine and roses too, but I'm sure the increase in hate she is getting is out of control lately and she just felt like saying it.
IMO anyone offended by the "Fuck off" has probably said something that crossed the line. Otherwise why would you even think that's directed to you? It could have been to anyone or about anything.
Victor f'n Newman/Eric f'n Braeden called someone an "utterly uninformed BITCH" on Twitter last night. And it was awesome. So I mean...whatever.

We'll, in Kate's defense, I don't think the show really has anyone coaching them on how to do this (i.e. I thought Mansi was funny and showed class and good judgement in her initial response to that awful tweet, but then took it too far with the Namaste pic), though they certainly should. Of course, a person only has to look at how poorly Days handles its own twitter handle to see how much they understand about effectively using social media to create buzz.

Quoting limited to 4 levels deep
I never said she was the first one to do it. I also never said it wasn't 'okay'. I said it wasn't smart. There's a difference.
In that moment for her, it was a smart thing to do. 's why no one likes you or your character. https://twitter.com/CrystalLou2u/status/250593480680808448
She probably shouldn't have done the fuck off but I thought "Aren't you sweet" was awesome. I believe the network's way of "ordering" actors to engage with fans is through the organized Live tweet sessions. Even when an actor doesn't have a Twitter account, he isn't forced to get one. They end up using the show's account. Roger Howarth's live sessions were under the GH account. Y&R did the same thing with Billy Miller. The shows get enough hate email and hate tweets that they know their actors/writers/producers are receiving the same. The difference is the shows cant react to these tweets or hate emails but their people can when they are tweeted directly and I am yet to hear of anyone getting punished for it because I believe the shows sympathize with their personnel. Take RC as an example, he is a writer, he gets hate tweets and reacts all the time, sometimes over the top. When he had just joined GH, people were taken back by his ability to bash them back that they were tweeting him telling him that they were going to report him to ABC. I think someone once called him an idiot and he told them they were the biggest idiot. Here we are years later, RC's twitter reactions haven't changed and he just re-signed, and his immediate boss is on twitter and follows him.

You also open yourself up to criticism and interpretations that would otherwise not be there. I'm not talking about the person who tweeted the insult or those who would do the same. I'm talking about those sitting on the sidelines remaining neutral. They may have normally sided with KM and felt sympathy for her as that tweet was uncalled for, but instead, now they see her as equally offensive. Right or wrong, that can happen and in this case probably did.
If she would have stayed silent, none of that would have occurred or even have the potential to occur.
That's why I don't think it's a smart move, for KM or any actor.
