I don't find them entertaining. Can there be a place for dysfunctional couples on TV? Possibly. But I don't think soap operas are necessarily a good vehicle for it and Days isn't doing EJami any favors.

Seriously??

IMO, soaps were built around dysfunctional couples. Even the best ones were full of dysfunction. Luke & Laura, Carl & Rachel, Jake & Vicky, Jack & Jen, Steve & Kayla, Sonny & Brenda, the list goes on & on. All thes couples had dysfunction of some form. But I loved them & rooted for them to be together despite it.

As for Ejami. I'm not loving them right now. Personally,I'd like to poke EJ's eyes out with a fork & smack Samii around a little bit but that's not going to make me suddenly like a pairing that makes no sense to me & Ejabby makes zero sense IMO.
No, I disagree too. Luke and Laura, due to the times, it was not seen as rape. (I hate that too, just for the record). He "seduced her". Now I won't get into Sonny & Brenda, I don't know all their history and you are right, that probably is a dysfunctional couple but GH is known for putting their mobsters on pedestals. Days prefers their heroes to be heroes and most of the villains in the past get redeemed with their new love story. Ej is an exception which sadly makes his story harder to take.

Steve and Kayla, Carl & Rachel, Jack & Jennifer all started out as a "bad man" but were redeemed primarily through their love for the woman. (Some other contributing factors helped in some cases but in general). Now those couples there were mistakes made and problems arose, but after the couplings were established, none of the couples intentionally tried to hurt their SO. For years Ejami have done terrible things together.

Now maybe one could argue that Ejami are through hurting each other to such extremes. Ej's cheating is the worse it gets. Fine. Still, they don't treat each other well IMO and I think the show would be better off saying so instead of trying to pretend everything will eventually work out.
Luke & Laura was absolutely a rape.

As for the others, it doesn't matter that their love for a woman redeemed them. Dysfunction was still apart of their makeup.

Steve came from an abusive home, Jack was an abuser, Carl was a mobster, Jake was an abuser. At their core, there was dysfunction which played a major role on their relationships.

Yes, what happened between Luke and Laura was rape. The show characterized it as rape. But once their fame and popularity exploded and reached the Super-couple stratosphere, the show then had Laura backtrack and say to Luke that it wasn't rape. It was a seduction. And because she was married to Scotty at the time, she couldn't handle the guilt and shame of allowing herself to be seduced. I was 15/16 at the time, and even to my young, naïve, sheltered mind, it was rape.

Yep.

I believe that's been referenced many times over the course of their relationship.

Sami told him that during Daysaster...they are the opposite of good together, when they get together disaster ensues.

Also, EJ said it more recently that they can't be away from each other..they're miserable, etc.

I think JS also referenced it at DOD, that they can't stay away from each other.

I think for as long as AS is on screen they'll be involved with each other in one facet or another.

They're far from healthy but they can be damn entertaining.

This is the first time for me that Ej and Sami have been written as "indifferent" to one another. They have written them in love, and hating one another but never indifferent. I don't mind them hating each other cause we can get some powerful scenes from that hate but I can't deal with the indifference. But of course they had to write them like this to make Ej and Abigail work. If Ej and Sami shared more scenes together and even if they were fighting, viewers would see that "spark" and that would keep them rootable. They are not really rootable at the moment but that certainly doesn't make Ej and Abigail anymore rootable either.

Not one of these three individual characters is rootable at the moment.

The fact that this will drag on through to May sweeps is a given and makes all 3 of them continue to be unrootable & unwatchable. It speaks to the weakness of the story to try to give both sides a little here and a little there. Commit to a direction, rip the bandaid off and move on.

Yes but for awhile it was written as seduction. I didn't watch GH back then at all. I didn't even know he had raped her. When I was a teenager there was this awesome 50 greatest soap supercouples I bought (I want into the NBC soaps at the time) but I decided to read all the history of every couple. I remember specifically it said he seduced her. Now of course it was actually rape and they have brought it back up so good. But back in the 80s it was whitewashed some when referring to their history.

Also, Steve and Kayla started off with him being paid to stalk her which certainly is kind of creepy. I always thought though it was great that he chose to quit once he began feeling something for her (which of course Victor had him beaten for it).

I'm linking to the original scenes of Luke & Laura.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4e3drGqi4zk

Also, they did go back & correct trying to make it a seduction. Here are some of those links:

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LeOYg43DdIw

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7ylZFDBJ7QE

There are some more on YouTube if you're interested.

I'm not saying that the ones I mentioned Didnt turn out to be good people with honorable intentions, but at their core, they were dysfunctional.

I thought dysfunction was the point of a soap. Even the happy couples have had a level of dysfunction. If ejabby were to become a real couple, they'd be totally dysfunctional too...at least they would be if they wanted any screen time.

I don't recall EJ being all lovey dovey with Sami after the griefsex. He also hated when she showed up at the mansion to talk about it.......he couldn't get her out of there quick enough and told her to keep her mouth shut. And how he treats women saids a lot more about him than it does them.
I agree the guys a horndog. Just surprised once moral Abby is desirous of being treated that way.

I donīt think EJ has treated Abby badly, he has never promised her anything nor has neither of them talked about their relationship as being anything more than sex even though I can see it develop into a love story later down the road, but for the moment Abby has discovered sex and that is what she wants from him she hasnīt expressed wanting a real relationship so she is fine with just getting sex from him. I think she will have some problems letting go without getting to obssessed but itīs probably because she doesnīt get his peen more than being inlove with him, even though I see Ejabby have some feelings for one an other that might become deeper after the truth it out. I see potentiell for a love story but itīs not that yet.

Anyway first I had to worry about JS leaving now I have to worry about KM leaving I thought if I couldnīt have Ejami that I would at least get Ejabby. Still I might be able to get into Ejole too.

Abby also hasn't been inviting him out to show him off. She wants him hidden away like he's a shameful toy she doesn't want to be associated with in public. EJ should be embarrassed that Abby treats him like that.

Even if I have loved Ejami I think they have to much dysfunctional history I would definietly change things in their past if I could, but I have loved them anyway because of the actors amazing chemistry. Still I think part of their attraction is that they are dysfunctional I do love their fights so I wouldnīt change that.

I think we agree.
I'm disagreeing with the comment.

"Days always hits the mark with sex scenes and chemistry"

unless it was a sarcastic comment and I missed the tone I don't think we are agreeing.

Maybe next week will be Worst Days Love scenes week which will save me the need to look for supporting evidence.
I'm, like, 103% positive that was a sarcastic comment. And I'm also 103% positive that when that poster initially reads that I have said that, their first instinct will be to sarcastically deny it.
If I sarcastically deny it, it will be 103 x's more confusing, lol. I had to read your post 103 times to understand it correctly.

Concerned and BeeBee-

Tripp said that if Ejabby didn't have any chemistry the writers wouldn't be putting them in so many sex scene. I was flabbergasted that she wrote that because MOST of the time they DONT care if the couple has chemistry as evidenced by Dannifer. Of course all this is subjective on Tripp's end and mine. Just cuz I don't think Ejabby and Dannifer have chemistry doesn't mean there aren't a ton of people who think they do. IMO, Ejabby are on screen because James played EJ flirting with her a year ago and James has been delivering the sex like a mail man which in not the same as chemistry which again is my personal opinion. Is that clear? Sorry for the confusion.

I would say that Ashley Benson has been the most successful outside of Days. I don't watch Pretty Little Liars but she's everywhere and I'm always hearing about her. Plus she did that movie with James Franco. Shelly Hennig may have been in that CW show but I never hear about her and it was cancelled.

EJ is treating Abby like a typical side piece. There are times where he's going to be annoyed because it logical he doesn't want to get caught. His bullet holes were probably getting achy. There are times where he's going to treat her nice because he's getting something from her that he needs.

Come on Ron, We are counting on YOU !!

but wait up...I think what Tripp was trying to get at is that they have put Ejabby in about 70 sexual situations in a month and the scenes are all racy. Dannifer hasn't shared sex scenes in ages and when they did they weren't as explicit as Ejabby...if anything I think what Tripp said makes absolute sense..it's not about the show choosing chemistry over anything else sometimes....they obviously miss the mark more times than I can count and we have Dannifer, Safe, Lucloe to prove it...but going back to what she was trying to get at, I can see how the show did it before with Chloe and Dan....remember their sex scenes? Yeah...borderline pornish if you ask me...if they didn't think Ejabby or Danloe has hot sexual chemistry they would have done a one night stand and be done with both stories....they would have achieved the goal they were getting at with breaking up the actual couples but without the need to showcase the sex scenes that much.

So since you pointed me out, I do think the writers believe they have chemistry and it's evidence by the sheer amount of sex scenes they have been given (Ejabby). They have had more onscreen sex this year than a lot of the established couples did all of last year. To me, that says the writers and TPTB think KM and JS are hot together. That's all I meant by that. I know chemistry is subjective. I certainly have felt Ejami have been lacking chemistry for years now but TPTB think they have it too, otherwise they still wouldn't be together.

Well, of course the writers think they have chemistry, or the story wouldn't be happening. At least some of the writers also think all those terrible couples had wonderful love stories, too. Ejabby are having an affair. They're not being sold as soulmates, and affairs on soaps = racy sex scenes.
