^^^^ She's basically saying that they couldn't show Wilson in the promo because it would air in markets/air times where some people would complain about being subjected to a happy gay couple. |

I don't know if it's truly relevant, but it may well speak to the network's cowardice that they also cut the anti-discrimination speech by the IOC President: http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2014/02/08/thomas_bach_nbc_cuts_anti_discrimination_remarks_from_sochi_speech.html Again, Days has been on thin ice for awhile and I can totally understand if they cave to NBC demands with regard to a promo while being left alone story wise, but if NBC is sucking up to an oppressive regime like Putin's Russia and the worst elements of American culture ("I just want to watch ice dancing in peace! Don't let any immoral gays on my television!"), they should be totally called out for it. |

It's ironic that Wilson are the most wholesome couple on the show. |

That makes sense, but it's such a shame. I'm almost certain with everything NBC has done for WilSon they wouldn't of cut them out if they had a choice in the matter, or at least I like to think so. |

So no matter what explanation we get, this whole thing blows and WilSon fans get screwed. I thought they'd promote the hell out of the upcoming wedding but now I'd doubt it. What a fucking shame. |

I think what Judie may be talking about are FCC rules about when certain types of content can air, and how the Olympics is pushing normal promo airing times into timeslots where the FCC rules prohibit certain things from airing. Note, I am NOT defending the FCC's rules, only pointing out that NBC is bound by law to adhere to them until such time they are changed. So I suspect we should blame the FCC, not Days or NBC, in this particular situation. |

Quote from the Slate article about NBC cutting the anti-discrimination speech by the IOC President:
For cutting the Wilson part of the Days promo, I would say again: #NBCfail
Okay then ... if what you're theorizing is true ... then .. #FCCfail Edited by nananana7, Feb 8 2014, 01:09 PM.

And that kind of bothers me about them. I know it's, sadly, still controversial to portray a gay couple on television, especially daytime television, which tends to skew conservative. However, it seems like so many shows - this one included - go so far out of their way to be like, "Hey guys, look happy gays being happy and normal and non-threatening" that it makes their stories so dull to watch. I guess that's just a necessary step in the social evolutionary process, but as a homo myself, it's tiresome having to wait for all the bigots to get comfortable. |

They're the most wholesome because there's no other character on the canvas that would threaten their happy relationship. WilSon are being written as though they are a singular unit. What one knows, the other knows soon after (if not at the same time). They're always in the same stories. There really isn't anything that gives either of them individual personalities - well, maybe Will gets a tiny bit of his own personality when he interacts with his parents, but that doesn't happen often when it's not in relation to something that Sonny is also part of. |

She also mentioned that because promos air randomly different times of the day, there are scenes that often aren't able to be put in promos. |

This is what it means to me... Basically, it sounds like she was just using “Russia” as a way of saying it was because of the gay storyline and not because of the Olympics… the Olympics happen to be hosted by an anti-gay country so the meaning is understood as the reason it’s being cut is the gay storyline. According to follow-up tweets, there are guidelines about promoting gay relationships during all hours of the day, especially prime time. |

I don't think GH's gays are being treated as "Hey guys, look happy gays being happy and normal and non-threatening." Lucas and Brad met in a bar, commiserated because of their screwed up fathers, and eventually ended up in bed together. No apologies, no hearts and flowers. I'm actually liking them and hope it truly does lead to a romantic pairing, but NOT of the WilSon kind... My only issue is that for some reason, though Brad supposedly wants a romantic relationship with a character named Felix, they have yet to kiss. They've come close, but for some reason another always gets interrupted. |

I actually like that WilSon are completely happy together. Should Tom and Alice be the only couple that ever stayed monogamous and happy? It's nice to see a gay couple just as happy. That being said, I do think that Sonny, especially, needs to get more time away from Will and really show his true Kiriakis side. I also completely understand why some fans want WilSon to be treated just as fucked up as any other typical soap couple. Yet I do think it's important to show a gay couple turned daddies be solid as well. Unless they bring on another gay couple I guess we're just going to have to give something to get something. |

The monogamy is fine. Them being generally happy all the time isn't. The show doesn't seem to get that they can get a lot of mileage out of non-sexual conflict, though, so I guess Wilson will remain happy and backburnered, just like the elderly couples, until they create another gay or bi guy.

My problem is last week they showed what I consider a pretty risqué promo of EJ & Abby in the shower but they aren't going to show what I assume is a proposal. I'm okay with there being limits on what can be shown in daytime but I'd be willing to bet whatever was cut was nowhere near as risqué as what we saw last week. |

Days promo team sucks. They've always relegated WilSon to second classdom. When Will was shot and fighting for his life, instead of highlighting Sonny's anguish, the promo was about a mother's worry for her son or something. Then they showed Sami saying "my perfect boy" or something like that. That annoyed me. Where WilSon are concerned, Days always wants to have their cake and eat it too. They want all the diversity awards and to be hailed as a forward thinking show that celebrates diversity, blah, blah, blah but then they treat their gay couple differently than other "in love" couples. First of all by showing double standard in the way they promote WilSon: 1) they never showed the couple together; 2)they never have a media interviews together; 3) no promotion pictures; 4) very tame love scenes compared to other couples. Second, their s/l is always dependant on other people (except Will's coming out s/l), they are supporting cast to their own s/l - baby drama. Honestly, I am disgusted by this latest revelation that I feel I can no longer support a show and a network that would rather satisfy Russia's hateful policies than promote their own show. Just disgusting. I am clinging to a small hope that this is not the case but so far there's no other explanation. Edited by Kaha, Feb 8 2014, 01:42 PM.

I agree, that promo bothered me. It aired on my station at 7pm, had my daughter been early elementary still I would have turned the channel. |

Well Sonny and Will is the first and only gay couple I ever rooted for. I was one of those fans that did not want to see a gay storyline but Wilson changed all that at least for me. |
