I remember Ralph Waite saying years ago that attending the acting class with Bill changed his life. Bill was just reminiscing on Twitter the other day about working with Sid Caesar and Shirley Temple. Must be hard to see so many peers passing away in such a short time span. |

In 1992, the Walton's Mtn Museum was opened and they had a big dedication celebration that was attended by most of the surviving cast. Since we lived only a couple of hours away, my mother and I decided at the last minute (literally that day) to go. We really enjoyed it, but the one thing that I always told people about that day was that I got to shake Ralph Waite's hand. He wasn't the only one I shook hands with and it was just a quick moment, but it still thrills me to this day. There was just something special about him. He always came across as solid, warm, kind, and seemed to have a twinkle in his eye. He will be truly missed and always remembered. |

This is so ironic since just earlier today, one of the classic TV pages I follow on Facebook posted a recent, posed picture of Waite, Michael Learned, and Richard Thomas together with the caption (paraphrased) "The Waltons today". On a tangent, I've thought for quite a while now (really since she filled in for Jeanne Cooper) that Michael Learned would make a really nice Laura Horton. |

I remember him saying that playing John Walton a good father to seven kids made him want to be a better man in his real life. I wish we had a Walton like program on now to escape to every week. |
