I got a little choked up when Eric mentioned Father Matt in today's episode.

I'd like to see DAYS acknowledge Ralph Waite's passing. Maybe Eric and Nicole can mention that they attended Father Matt's off-screen funeral. Perhaps Father Matt can bequeath Eric a religious heirloom, or Father Matt can leave a letter for Eric that encourages Eric to follow his heart.

They've taped everything through June already, so if they do mention his passing, it probably wouldn't be until July at the earliest. Hopefully they will insert an "In Memory Of" card at the end of one of the episodes in the coming weeks.

It's so strange when characters continue on happy as clams for months before reacting when the audience knows that a much loved icon who played a character has passed away. It isn't the same, because she had a far bigger impact on the show, but the length of time between when Frances Reid passed away, and we saw grandmother Horton's funeral, is just jarring.

Would they insert a "In Memory Of" card if there are any more Father Matt scenes that have been taped but not aired? (that sounds confusing - basically, if there are any more Father Matt scenes, will they wait for them to air before adding a "In Memory Of" card?)

I'm glad they took the time to make Alice's funeral/memorial right and didn't rush it. The only thing I wish we'd gotten was the actual funeral with proper eulogies, not just a few people saying a few words at the grave site.

Since Mr. Waite became a minister in real life, I think it would be a lovely gesture for a plaque to be made for the wall of the church set in honor of both Mr. Waite and his character, Father Matt.

I don't think he probably worked after September. His friend said he had been in and out of hospitals over the past few months, so he probably was unable to work again after doing the Christening scenes. All of the Father Louis scenes were originally written for Father Matt most likely.

We lost a really good one. Ralph Waite was a gentle presence on stage. His genuine warmth and distinctive voice brought us all back to the comfort and safety of Walton's Mountain. There will not be a brighter star in Heaven tonight.

I remember him from Bones, playing Booth's grandpa... he was just such a character onscreen, had a really good feel to him. Rest in peace, Mr Waite.

He also played Gibbs' dad. It'll be interesting to see if & how any of the 3 shows (Days, Bones, & NCIS) write his death into the show (or if they'll just recast if they need the character again).
