I'm usually not a fan of MF interviews but this one was great! I'm going to miss Blake a ton, but I'm sure he is going to do great things. Totally agree with you most MF interviews are overkill but Michael made sure to strike the right balance with Blake and asked very good questions, thanks Ellie for posting the link and I really enjoyed reading Blake's thoughts, I wish him all the best in the future.

I still can't believe he wasn't nominated for an Emmy. Those rape confession scenes were fantastic.
Really gonna miss Blake.

I love Blake, I loved Nick until his return and frankly I wish they would have really tried to explain some of his behavior away by touching on the mental illness that exists in his family.

I especially agreed with this:
"One of the problems that I see sometimes in daytime is an overly simple moral universe that everyone lives in – where certain things are wrong and certain things are bad, and certain people aren’t good, and that is not interesting to me which is why I loved Nick Fallon. A lot of people saw the character as bad, but I tend to view him as somebody who is in pain. I tried to show as much vulnerability and goodness as there was in him, even though he was manipulative. I thought it was a fascinating cool character, and was excited to make that contribution to the landscape of this show that has been going on for close to 50 years."
Wow, so true and from his lips. I mean, this is how I feel, there needn't always be this sort of weird parting between totally black and totally white. I don't really get that anyway since nobody in life is like that anyway. If I wanted to see that I could watch cartoons, lol. Gotta say how much I love your posts!!! Just putting that out there.
Agreed! That was a part of the interview I enjoyed as well. Blake really GOT the character, the layers, the show itself and it spoke volumes in his performances. He really is a phenomenal actor and I believe he will do just fine.
This was one of the better interviews I've read in a long time. It was good to hear from Blake after the past few episodes and I'm glad he was able to share some behind the scenes info regarding his exit. Like it was cool knowing he knew the killer and could perform accordingly. It made me rewatch those scenes and he's just so damn good...I'm still not 100% (It's going to be Gabi tho...my money is still there). I also liked how the show was still prepared to write for Nick. People complain he wasn't given a redemption arc and I get that but he chose to leave and I respect that. Sure he could've gone to a mental hospital but hey what's Salem without a little bloodshed? ;). All in all, awesome interview!

It's funny because the more these actors say that, the less I see it onscreen.

I don't mind losing the pre-defined good/bad roles, but for me it has become too much about making the psychos look like sympathetic woobies and "good" characters look like harpies, shrews, and hypocrites, and I really couldn't give a shit about any of that.
I also hate the implication that this is something that is new to DAYS, because that is so out of touch with the history of the show.

This was a great interview! I love BB and will miss Nick and BB. Very interesting that he knows who the killer is, and I think more than ever it was Gabi. Her post murder actions onscreen make me think so, and this interview sort of puts the stamp on it, imo. I am somewhat disappointed in that, but at the same time, it will redeem her from her extrmeme stupidity and OTT gullible nature.

I would add that because there is pain, it doesn't mean they aren't the bad guy. Agreed. I also agree with what he said about Will and Sonny. But I'm not seeing complexity in any character, and I haven't in a long time. And that includes both Nick and Kristen. Any complexity is being communicated by the actors through interviews. It's not in the stories at all, IMO.

ICAM :D . I also remember EM stating that "[...] the characters are three-dimensional. They’re not just evil or good anymore; they’re human beings. We’re not a cartoon." (http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/05/09/james-scott-galen-gering-eric-martsolf-days-of-our-lives_n_5297720.html)I hope, we will see more complex characters like Nick and Kristen on "Days" in the future. When were they just evil and good? I see comments like that alot but never an actual example. Seems like it's just a way to defend the current "modern" Days for making every character "grey".

I feel like they're more that way now than anytime before. Drake made a similar comment back when MarDar brought him back.

Agreed. I also agree with what he said about Will and Sonny. But I'm not seeing complexity in any character, and I haven't in a long time. And that includes both Nick and Kristen. Any complexity is being communicated by the actors through interviews. It's not in the stories at all, IMO. I don't particularly agree or disagree. I think, there are no more really very complex and well developed characters on soaps. Idk why, maybe because all these remaining daytime shows feel the pressure to have plot-driven (not character-driven) stories because they think that that's what their target (young) audience will watch, so they don't have longer scenes anymore, characters are barely talking to each other (they are either in bed, or plotting, or having cat fights).
Having said that, Nick and Kristen are the characters I enjoy(ed) most on "Days" during 2012-2014. Their stories were far from perfect but still they felt much more real to me (I mean, the psychological aspect) than any of the other stories or characters. Both actors did an excellent job portraying the characters. It was somehow possible to see/feel the vulnerable side (and the need for professional help etc) of those "dark" characters. And I really appreciate what I can get ;) .

I felt Kristen was so OTT to actually enjoy her as a character. Nothing complex about her at all. And I couldn't buy her and Brady's love because all they did was have sex.
As for Nick, if he was not just outsmarting everyone at every turn, I might've enjoyed him but it was hard to buy that a man on parole was making all these people dance to his tune.

I found Kristen pretty cartoonish. Nick too but they smashed all his complexity into one day. Totally. A lot of Kristen's scenes made me cringe, to tell you the truth. And Nick was a typical super smart villain who always won. Sometimes, I expected him to place his little finger near his mouth, especially when he was being particularly menacing. Then, on his last few minutes before he was killed, he was this little lost boy who was looking for love and support. Okay, then.

I definitely don't see it that way. As for Kristen, I think, the writers were modelling her actions after those of a borderline personality (people having a serious mental illness called BPD). Maybe they weren't totally and completely "accurate" but it's a soap. I can only say that what I saw on my screen was enough for me to feel for the character.

I remember when Nick came on and had a thing for Chelsea...loved him then as the geeky genius...loved him as the psycho assaulter! Blake Berris kicked so much ass in the past few months out-acting everyone. I had no idea of his talent. Huge loss for Days! I wish him so much success!
This was a great Michael Fairman interview too. Glad that BB got a great exit with lots of drama and a chance to act his little heart out!

I think it was a mistake not to draw on Nick's first characterization (2006-2007) earlier in this run.
