Christie should take her rightful spot as the lead heroine now that AS is leaving. I always thought it should be Carrie instead of Sami anyway. And while she's at it, she can say she found her real father wandering around Switzerland and bring him back with her.
If the show hadn't lead people to believe that this was the reveal, by doing an SOD article on it, having actors say the episode marked a turning point (which doesn't actually seem to be true), etc. it wouldn't have annoyed people as much as it did. The problem wasn't the dream itself, the problem was the false advertising. The show promised that something important would happen, and it didn't.
Yeah, I have considered that, and I thought about mentioning it in one of my previous posts, but I decided to just mention the theory about how everything involving Sami and E.J. seems to be taken to extremes instead. But I still don't see why any of that was taken at face value in the first place instead of being met with at least a bit of skepticism. I'm really not trying to blow my own horn here, but I know that none of those comments or articles did anything to convince me that the reveal was gong to actually happen in that episode, because it just didn't make any sense that the reveal would have suddenly happened at that particular time. I was certain that the reveal would occur during E.J. and Sami's wedding, as tradition dictates, and no amount of interviews or articles could have convinced me otherwise. It's not like I'm any smarter than anyone else here, and it's not like no one has ever written a misleading article or given a misleading interview or touted a storyline in a way that turned out to be false before, so why were so many people so willing to believe this and so annoyed that their "trust" in the show had been broken when it turned out to be a fake-out? Wishful thinking?
I mean, people are always saying here that Ken Corday is a liar and that they never believe anything that he says. They've been saying that for years -- long before the articles and interviews about this fake-out surfaced. I've seen people display skepticism in response to things Alison Sweeney has said before, things James Scott has said before, things Jen Lilley has said before, and so on. (If that last name confuses anyone, I'm only mentioning Jen because she is one of the most recent examples I can think of who has said things in interviews that people here have been skeptical about. It didn't matter that those things had appeared in Soap Opera Digest articles -- people still declared that she couldn't be believed [and they were right].) I just don't get why this particular time should have been any different, but for whatever reason, it clearly was.
I was originally 100% sure that we were headed toward a wedding reveal and I assumed those who guessed otherwise were fooling themselves, but when the article came out, I assumed I was wrong and that Days had decided to do something unpredictable. Before that show aired, I don't see why anyone wouldn't take the article at face value, for the most part. I guess I've missed out on all these wildly incorrect spoiler articles. I've seen articles where an actor's interpretation of the character's actions doesn't jibe with what aired (Stockholm Syndrome, for a recent example), but none where the write up was deliberately misleading on every level. If I read a spoiler article about Kayla kissing EJ, I might disagree with MBE's interpretation that Kayla has no feelings for EJ and is only trying to make Steve jealous, but I'd still expect to see Kayla actually kiss EJ, or I would have, up until recently.
I legitimately think that write up wasn't intended to be misleading. I think SOD didn't know. I also wonder if Ali hadn't been so excited if it would have gotten any attention in the first place. The show didn't seem nearly as invested.
I could absolutely weep over that pic, and I knew she was on Deidre's mind for a reason. I wonder who else was there that managed not to get outed yet.
Yeah Im thinking she actually filmed though. Maybe thats why Deidre didnt post it? Im not sure why the show would care either way. Sami's exit should be a big deal with some cast returns if needed. She probably just visited though.
Agreed. I'd be really disappointed if we don't get to see Carrie and/or others return for Sami's exit. I'd like to see Carrie back full-time if it's possible (and Wayne's Roman, just because).

Oh hell yeah. Her last two returns have been completely botched though. The current writing team didn't want to write for Carrie and Austin but they almost kept Carrie I believe before deciding to create the character of Jordan.
If Austin is the problem then I say bring her back solo. She deserves to be a leading lady on this show. She certainly has the acting chops more than Sweeney. Ive always loved Christie Clark. Her along with Melissa Reeves, Kristian Alfonso, and Deidre Hall really define DOOL for me as far as leading ladies.

I definitely don't think Austin was the problem, because I felt that Patrick Muldoon did the best he could with the piss-poor writing he was given. I'd like to see Carrie and Austin return, perhaps in a story involving Eric and Nicole. What I DON'T want to see is Carrie return and have her sacrificed for Daniel (like most returning females are) or as an interloper for Rafe and Jordan. No thank you.
First, I never could understand how so many people (and some of them otherwise quite "suspicious") expected it not to be a fake-out: 1. It was not even sweeps; 2. It wasn't even a wedding; 3. It wasn't even Friday; 4. They were talking too much and too directly about it (I mean not only SOD but also tweets etc). 5. Several spoilers for the next two weeks hinted that nothing big will happen.

You might be on to something. Wasn't there a casting call recently for a one year old baby? Initially, some speculated the baby might be a replacement to the twins that play baby Arianna, but we saw just few days ago they were still working. Maybe the one year old baby is supposed to be Carrie and Austin's baby.

Nothing like big reveals usually are.
1-3 and 5 are why it was such a pleasant surprise. It would be refreshing if Days shook things up and started writing like it was Sweeps all the time.
Me too. Damn Wayne could act. He played Roman the way Roman needed to be. I loved Drake and Wayne's chemistry together. I would love a storyline where he would help John find his identity and take Stefano down. Wayne's Roman could also knock the shit out of Baby Brady :peek: I believe Eric and his chemistry would also be tremendous. Oh what could be, but never will happen because these writers are in love with Dannifer. Josh could then run the Brady Pub as the bartender with the great ear for listening.

Yeah, the age of the baby from the casting call would fit with it being Carrie & Austin's child.
If EJ does die (or fakes his death), there could be some legal issues involved, and so Carrie could return to Salem as Sami's lawyer.
And Martha Madison recently tweeted about being very busy and tweeted that some really good things are happening in her life, so I'm hoping these might be clues that she's also returning to DAYS. (Aside from being around for Sami's exit, Belle could help Brady with whatever crazy stuff happens between him and Kristen. And Belle was previously training to be a nurse, so Belle could be involved with the hospital storylines.)
Quoting limited to 4 levels deepnever convinced -- in the weeks leading up to the episode in question or while it was airing -- that it would be real, and I'm not the only one who expressed skepticism. In fact, I'm absolutely positive that at least one person predicted beforehand that it would be a dream on this very site. So I don't understand why this particular fake-out made some people so upset and jaded about the trustworthiness of future information about the show. Maybe it's just because it involved Sami and E.J., and a lot of people have a tendency to take anything involving that couple to extremes anyway, but really, there is no more of a possibility of future fake-outs now than there was before this particular fake-out aired.
I can't think of any other fake outs that were like one on the 21st - ones that got spoiler articles and that didn't have any affect on the story at all. IIRC, there was a season of Dallas that was a dream, that might not have affected anything, but how many people really remember that?
I'd say that a lot of people know about it. People know about the "it was only a dream" thing that have never even watched a single minute of Dallas. St. Elsewhere also famously revealed in its series finale that the entire series had been a dream, and Newhart did the same thing in its series finale. It's a very famous trope.
And the current Days writing team has done other fake-outs in the recent past that have extended for multiple segments of an episode before finally being revealed to be fantasy or dream sequences. J.J. had one about telling Jennifer and Abby the truth about Theresa's overdose, Nicole had one about Chyka breaking into her hotel room and taunting her about the fact that she had shredded the evidence that could have proven Eric's innocence, Gabi had one about Nick taking her to the river and drowning her. And that's just off the top of my head. They didn't last as long as the fake-out in E.J. and Sami's episode, and other things were happening around those sequences with other storylines, but the concept itself is certainly not new, nor had it been a long time since it had been utilized on Days before that particular episode aired.
By "remember" I don't mean "are aware of," I mean actually "remember" as in, you saw it unfold, then went back and watched the next year knowing that that entire season had no affect on the overall story. And a series finale, doesn't count, because the show is over; there's nothing else left to invest in at that point.
I don't think any of your examples are comparable to what happened on the 21st. If the show hadn't lead people to believe that this was the reveal, by doing an SOD article on it, having actors say the episode marked a turning point (which doesn't actually seem to be true), etc. it wouldn't have annoyed people as much as it did. AS and JS's pimping and magazine articles aside, I can't see how ANYONE who was watching that OTT, horrendously acted, ridiculous episode was actually fooled into thinking it was real. Lil and I were watching it together and after some uncontrollable fits of laughter at AS/JS' "performances" we looked at each other and simultaneously said "DREAM".
For me the best fake-out this show has ever done in MY viewing history was in 2004 when Marlena "killed" John.....My jaw was on the floor!

I knew it was a dream before I saw it thanks to twitter, but we could probably collectively name dozens of OTT performances that weren't dreams...
It wasn't a dream, but in my book, the best fake out was when Bo killed Lexie.
In regards to the earlier DiMera Mansion fireplace mantel post, here's a comparison of the two, as it appeared on the May 22 episode vs. how it looked during today's final Ali Sweeney episode taping...
Is it unusual for random pics to be taken on a set? It just seems like most of the time they snap pictures in the hall, their dressing room or hair and make-up.

If they were having a party, they were probably on one of the sets.
