I feel compelled to freelance head write a couple of things. Bear with me... I don't have a problem with Nicole stealing the Chyka evidence & destroying it. IMO, it was in character for her insecurities to get the better of her & her to take the impulsive self-preservation (yet ultimately self-destructive approach). My problem comes from the fact that she's CONTINUED to go on with it and lie about it and it's pushing her into the unrootable column. If it had been me, I would've still had her steal/destroy the evidence, but eventually do the right thing out of guilt ON HER OWN -- NOT because someone forced her into it and because she had to. Nicole should've done the selfless thing and handed the evidence over herself. I would've written it that Nicole went to Father Louis FIRST and garnered a promise of confidentiality after her confession to him of what she'd done. He would follow through with this promise and only said to Eric and their superiors that the evidence had been handed over by an unnamed anonymous source. Eric is cleared in the eyes of the church and given the opportunity to become a priest again. This leads to a period where Eric must soul search whether he'll chose the priesthood or Nicole. Meanwhile, once Father Louis hands the evidence over to the police, it is determined that due to possible allegations of tampering & chain of evidence, it might not be submisable in a court of law if Kristen is ever caught because any competent attorney could have it thrown out. Eric is merely grateful that it is finally proven what Kristen did to him to anyone that matters (i.e. the church and Brady). Naturally, Eric wants Father Louis to tell him the source of the evidence because he wants to be able to thank them personally for what they've done for him. Father Louis refusal to do so, launches Eric on a quest to find out who was responsible. Meanwhile, Daniel sees the evidence (thanks to being in the right place at the right time) and quickly realizes that it came from Nicole and he questions her about it. Nicole confesses the truth to Daniel and, although he's shocked by what she's done, realizes that she ultimately did the right thing and agrees not to say anything to Eric. Later, Eric decides to chose Nicole over returning to the church and makes plans to formally propose marriage to her. Unfortunately, before he's able to do so (although he has the ring physically in hand), he overhears Nicole talking to Daniel (or Father Louis) about her role in the Chyka evidence and he's crushed. Eric confronts Nicole about what she's done and after some denial, she finally tearfully confesses to originally destroying the evidence. Although she reminds him that did eventually hand over the evidence to clear his name, he's still clearly devastated (angry that she could even consider destroying the evidence in the first place) and tells her that he needs time to think about their future. Later, as Eric prays over returning to the priesthood reconciled with what Nicole has done, he holds the engagement ring he bought for Nicole (but never showed her) in his hands. Somehow, something happens that causes him to drop it and lose it and he takes it as a sign that he's place is in the church and he retakes his vows (much to Nicole's sadness). This leads to a self-destructive period for Nicole which breaks Eric's heart and, despite what's happened between them, he attempts to help and counsel her which she very snidely rebuffs by throwing his priestly vows and his choosing her back in his face. Of course, as time goes on, Nicole's feelings begin to soften and Eric begins to realize that, no matter what she did, Nicole ultimately did the right selfless thing knowing what the consequences might be. Although nether one of them will openly admit it, they are both still deeply in love. Eventually, Eric is unable to deny his love for Nicole and they give in to their feelings and make love for the "first time" -- and since Eric is still a priest, he's broken his vows. Which now causes him a great deal of guilt because he actually has now done what he was originally accused & cleared of. This guilt causes him to push Nicole away, but he can't ignore his true feelings for long and seeks counsel in Father Louis... yadda yadda yadda... |

^What's your address, young man? NBC wants it. Oh wait... It's good to see Hope and Aiden. Cute. What wasn't cute was the frequent serious law-breaker (breaking and entering, stealing federally protected documents, etc.), Hope act all cop-righteous with the "non-criminal deceit" mention. I don't care how good she looked today, I can't stomach Shrewifer. Horrid show. |

After today, I am totally off the Ericole ship (my membership was tenuous but I was still on it). I know Nicole desperately wants to be with him, but here's the hard truth -- Eric is possibility, maybe in love with her because god didn't give him a sign when he didn't clearing his name. If you desperately want to be with a guy but you feel you can't be yourself or he won't fall in love with you or you need to hide the evidence that exonerates him because you're afraid you'll lose him to God, then he's not the guy for you. Nicole is a criminal at heart, she might be a loyal and self-sacrificing friend, but she won't hesitate to do anything to protect herself or to get what she wants. She'll trick a confused young girl to give up her baby, steal another woman's baby, put out a hit on someone who got on her way try to murder a rich husband, destroy the evidence that clears the man she loves, and risks a lunatic harming her supposed best friend and his girlfriend to cover her secret, among other things. Girlfriend is bad and she needs to embrace her badness. So, who can we pair her with that will not sniff the life out of her bad self? Brady - he ordered a hit on EJ, tried to take over his grandfather's business and covered up countless crimes and misdeeds. He's also attracted to bad girls. Stefano - gross and old but you've already been with Victor. I think Salem needs a bad guy who replaces EJ and him and Nicole can be bad together. Daniel - all of Salem will worship at your alter because Daniel the Great fell in love with you. And in Daniel's code of conduct, if he brakes the rules or someone he loves brakes it, then it's not bad. You can be as bad as you want and no one will judge you. |

That's pissy? I don't think anyone was thinking Marlena should just blindly forgive John and go running into his arms, but this is not productive angst. There is no movement. Hell, there's not even emotion. He says "hey," and she coldly stops just short of telling him to drop dead. If there were emotions bubbling underneath the surface it would be different. Deidre and Drake can only add so much subtext to 60 seconds of dialogue once a month. For that matter even if Marlena were being colder than the arctic to him and we then saw her go home and shed some tears, the viewer could get invest. As it is, Marlena is coming off as a cold b*tch. And John is on so infrequently he's like a friggin' jack-in-the-box who pops up long enough to say "Hey doc" (It seems like every one of their scenes since his return have started that way?) and then to offer his brief monthly lecture to his worthless son. I had a thought on Theresa. I like JL, but her performance has been hit or miss with me. I want to see Jeannie Theresa having fun being bad, not just being bad. And after all this time, she should develop some real feelings for a man. Brady seems like he could fit the bill, especially if they go all Bonnie & Clyde self-destructive together. JJ could fit the bill, even though he's way young I'd be all about her turning him bad again because he was much better bad. I think one way to add depth to the character would have Kristen target her. I totally agree that this would be like Godzilla going after a gnat, but this is Shane and Kim's daughter. She should have it in her to step up, and if she has genuine feelings for Brady it might bring some humanity and depth to the character. I just think it's tired and pedestrian that she's somehow trying to trap Brady. She shouldn't have to. She should believe she's trying to save him from the squares who don't want him to have all the drugs, booze and sex she's wiling to give him. |

I don't think she's coming off as a cold bitch. John completely disrespected and disregarded his marriage when he did that stupid thing with Kristen and then he had the temerity to say that he has feelings for Kristen. If I were Marlena I would be cold to the asshole too. She's protecting herself. How many times can John disregard Marlena? First, his whole heritage was changed and he didn't even call his wife and inform her. He then came back to town and told her point blank that he came back for Brady. Why should she do small talk with him when he doesn't show any regard for her or show any regret for what he did to their marriage? |
