The Ericole story from the late 90's was much better imo (until they broke up then tried to lamely reconcile).

The last time James Scott said there was a fantastic twist coming up, we got EJabby.
EJ/Abby was a fantastic twist for me.Since Nicole shreded the material that could have proved Kristin raped Eric, they killed Nick, and EJ/Abby affair ended,I have gone back to "enduring" rather than enjoying the show. The main reason I still watch on a daily basis is to look for clues to how the affair reveal will play out.
I got a bad feeling it won't be revealed until EJ is dying. AS said the dream fake-out allowed them to do a totally different take from what the actual reveal will be. That just seems weird to me because I don't see how Sami wouldn't be raging at him unless he is about to die. I hope that is not what happens because it would be really lame IMO. Loved that JS said his favorite scenes were the shower scenes with KM. :D He was specifically asked if EJabby doesn't come out til the end & he said no. James said there is a huge twist his last day that no one will ever figure out and that it explains why Ejami have never been able to truly stay away from each other.

I don't think it's a very good formula for today's audience, though.
Ahem. I respectfully disagree. :$
I disagree as well. There is no reason it couldn't be done now. I don't see how today's audience is any different or somehow wouldn't appreciate seeing that SUPERCOUPLE formula. In fact I think it's the reason why soaps are slowly dying.
I definitely don't agree with this. Many soap fans have changed. The viewing audience has changed. Back in the 70's, 80's and 90's, especially, there weren't as many TV channels or other media outlets to keep people's attention. Now if you don't like what you're seeing on one channel, it's very easy to change it to something else and never go back. With some people's definitions of "supercouple" it really takes an extremely dedicated fan to continue to tune in to the show every episode over months and years at a time...through all of the torture that the couple is going to go through, etc...to hopefully get a semi-satisfying ending. I know that I used to tune out for long periods of time when things got too rough to watch or just didn't have enough of a pay-off and I know that I'm not the only one and I'm convinced that it is happening more often with soaps than ever...obviously, since the ratings don't lie. There's a reason why this style of writing has died out, for the most part, and it's unfortunate that the soap writers have yet to be able to figure out what will please and fully entertain the next generation of soap fans but clearly they haven't yet. IMO this reasoning is why soaps are dying. Oops, I already said that :P
If you expect viewers to tune out because you think they have no attention span, and thus you decide you need to serve them up material that's meant to give them instant satisfaction, you are creating your own destruction. Cutting off your nose to spite your face so to speak. Now we get these stunted scenes and lack of character development because they are afraid if a scene lasts longer than a minute and a half we'll switch channels. Problem is, the audience never gets a chance to get lost in a story, and it doesn't really matter who did what to whom because the characters change from one day to the next. Nothing is consistent or long term. Why do you think there has been a renaissance in prime time with shows like Scandal and The Good Wife and Mad Men, etc? Because the give you a full meal and consistent characters that don't change personalities with each new plot.
If soaps respected their viewers like they used to, I think they'd be in much better shape.
I only continue to watch now because I long for them to wake up and give me that old formula, and because it's hard to give up that hope that it will get better (especially when my faves are still on the show).

I think they could potentially still make it work, but I definitely think it needs some adjustments. Until the last 14 or so years, I feel like Days did a good job of changing with the times. The OTT romances of the 80s fit that decade. The craziness in the 90s fit that decade. I don't think they've found what works for the two most recent decades. Though I guess since they've managed to stay on the air, they're not doing too badly. But I do think they need to modernize. The same formula could still work...with some minor changes.
It's possible, but, imo, not very probable. There's just too much going on elsewhere and the writing has to be pretty spectacular to keep people's interests over long periods of time. Right now they are just shooting darts in the dark and hoping to God that something sticks. Honestly though, so many people really do have the attention span of a gnat. If you don't catch their attention in just the right way, it's very difficult to bring in new viewers, or to keep the viewers you already had.
I think that's the main tweak they'd need to make. There would need to be enough going on otherwise to keep people invested. But I agree that it's not very probable, lol. If we go with the Ericole example, I think they REALLY needed to have them both involved in other stories instead of always together in that rectory. If the two of them had been heavily involved in other things and the build to their romance had been more of a tertiary story, I think it would have worked better. Their actual build up was well written, IMO, but it was hard to stay interested because their story WAS their build up. I agree with this. I remember back in the 80s so many thing were going on besides the romances and relationships. People had interesting and exciting careers and there was always some mystery going on. Now characters just bump into each other on their way to nowhere. They're doing nothing.

You read my mind and stated it perfectly. I have nothing to add but that I no longer watch with any regularity because even with old faves still around it just isn't worth my time. I actually read books or watch tv shows that reward a person for watching & paying attention over an entire season or seasons.

He was specifically asked if EJabby doesn't come out til the end & he said no. James said there is a huge twist his last day that no one will ever figure out and that it explains why Ejami have never been able to truly stay away from each other.
This is a little different than the tweets I read about this. Lysie, what say you about posting tweets from attendees? Is the info too second-hand?
I'm thinking.... I don't know that there will be a way for anyone to post anything that won't just turn everything into a stupid fight. I'm thinking you're right.

Well, we don't need tweets for that. We can accomplish stupid fights all on our own. Can you go elsewhere and tell us (me) what you heard? :P

During the Q&A at the Toronto event yesterday.
He also mentioned that AZ was his fave scene partner. He was dutifully throwing a bone to every fanbase he has.
That's nice of him. He could be telling the truth instead of "throwing a bone." AZ is the best actress on the show IMO and frankly it makes sense that AZ was his favorite scene partner. Sorry I didn't mean to sound like she isn't deserving...I completely think she is. I just meant that he made a point of mentioning something about all the major storylines that seem to come up at fan events...Ejami, Ejole & Ejabby. Considering he & AZ haven't had a scene together in almost a year, I thought it was nice.

You can post the tweets about what was said. But not the ones trying to explain it.
