Gabi's role in the Daysaster is also coming out now. Tell us about Abigail's reaction to that. Kate: She's always had a sort of a strange relationship with Gabi. Abby has the very strange friend instinct where she's always sort of on to her, even with the Chad stuff. But she suppresses it because she wants to believe the best and she wants to believe that her friend is not who she really is. When she finally comes out with it, it’s shocking and devastating and kind of confusing because it’s not like once she finds out she has all this time to reframe her image of her best friend and who she is and then continue a relationship. She finds out and is sort of left by herself to process it in her own mind.
What? Is she talking about that one scene when Hope showed Gabi a picture of Andrew? Abby never followed up on her suspicions, though. I love BB and loved what he had to say. :) No, when Gabi was faking the stalking, even before she hired Andrew, Abby was all over her shit. She didn't buy it and she kept trying to trip Gabi up and warn Melanie and Chad indirectly. But once Melanie left, they were bffs. It was weird.
@all the arguing about Kate's hate mail comments... Wow. It was a funny story. Her mom obviously doesn't watch the show or get technology and she thought Kate was actually being accused of being a whore. It's funny because it's why old people shouldn't be on the internet. ;p it's relatable. How is this some big debate?
I found Blake's comments to be less gently phrased, and a little more blunt against anti-fans, so I'm confused by this discussion. But idk- I've come to the conclusion that I read differently than most people. I took her confusion because even though she filmed scenes that flat out said she was not pregnant, people kept walking up to her asking if she was pregnant, and her subsequent assumption that they must have dropped the storyline as a polite way of saying "there's no way people are that dumb," but apparently I'm alone in that.
I don't even like Kate Mansi, lol.

I don't understand the furor.....Kate's IG illiterate mother saw the "you whore!" comment on some random, innocuous pic of a sunset and was probably like, Kate....what is happening here. So KM explained. And then she interviewed that this happened and she had to explain. Why is this some great example of the most supreme unprofessionalism ever to be perpetrated in media anywhere. I don't get it. Blake said similar things, even wondering how the crazies could confused characters and actors, thus throwing "shade" on the most rabid, extreme members of a fanbase. Does this make him unprofessional? I don't see it.
Bloody fantastic interview, Lysie and Ellie!! I really loved both Kate's and Blake's responses - BB seems like such a smartie. I have never had a huge issue with KM's responses in any interview - other than maybe her lack of passion or zeal or something when describing Abby's lingering reaction to Jack's death (she mentioned something about being hesitant when boarding elevators, and I thought mmmmkayyyyyyy). I have a WTF reaction to actors' interviews all the time, esp. certain actors (hey there Sween), but not really with her. In any event, I really found nothing objectionable here, and I will definitely take Lysie's word that the whole discussion was treated as a joke, without too much personal-level, poor-is-me whining.
It does seem impossible to tease things anymore, since the show films ahead so many months and the actors forget where the broadcast is up to, lol.

He said how odd it hit him that someone would say he needs to be fired instead of Nick needs to burn in hell and how it was confusing how some fans can't separate character from actor. < not personal
He didn't respond something like .... "Someone came up to me when I was taking my grandma out for her birthday and said, 'Days needs to fire your ass,' and my grandma who is hard of hearing and suffering from dementia gasps wild-eye teary-eye why do they want you fire you?!! Not understanding it's a crazy fan so I had to calm my poor grandma down to let her know, "No I'm not a whore, er I mean, no they don't want me fired, they want Nick to be off the show. My poor grandma!" < personal

Just like AS is the devil because Sami is fucking EJ. Let's not act like fanbase bullshit doesn't go every direction.
Also I wasn't talking about the entire fanbase at all. But this rather obvious and transparent issue that one person is having with the answer to this one specific question.
I beg your pardon but now who's reading minds. I'm telling all of you that KM bringing up having to defend herself to her mother for being called a whore when posting a picture of a sunset is a bit over the top in defense to criticism about her character. It's that simple. No smoke and mirrors, no hidden agenda. Seriously? Kate (not Abby) posted a birthday message to her real life brother and someone called her a whore in the comments. Her mother asked her about it and she explained. What should she have done? Ignored her mom? I think 99.9% of people would explain what it was all about.

It's one she picked for a general question on negative backlash.

My poor grandma!" < personal  yes I know he didn't say the word crazy....I WAS SAYING THE WORD CRAZY, because it tends to be those kinds of fans who confuse characters and actors. Admittedly, I've had my crazy moments imagining if I ever did run into JS, would I am be able not to give massive bitch face, curse and walk away. I am not sure I could, lol. I would try though! My point was, in a sense, he was calling out a certain type of fan, or just certain fans, who can't make this distinction. I said crazy for effect, as I like to add flair to my writing. Sorry if that was confusing. I just meant to say he was commenting on a fan's reaction, and thus commenting on the fans who have that reaction.
But I probably shouldn't be talking about fans, no matter how vague, at all, so I won't go further.
Where, anywhere, did Kate say anything comparable to: Someone came up to me when I was taking my grandma out for her birthday and said, 'Days needs to fire your ass,' and my grandma who is hard of hearing and suffering from dementia gasps wild-eye teary-eye why do they want you fire you?!! Not understanding it's a crazy fan so I had to calm my poor grandma down to let her know, "No I'm not a whore, er I mean, no they don't want me fired, they want Nick to be off the show. My poor grandma!" She says, " I posted a picture of a sunset once on my brother’s birthday and said “Happy Birthday” to him, and someone wrote “You whore!” and then went on about how I was destroying their fanbase. My mom was new to Instagram, and she was like “What’s going on with your life?” So I had to sort of reframe that for her. " She is not saying oh my poor mother, I had to comfort my mother, my mother had to be talked off a ledge, she was so destroyed after all this, how ever will she recover from this great injustice!!!! I don't see what you are seeing, is all. I see KM recalling a strange moment on IG, her mother being quizzical, and her needing to clear it up.
Blake was just as personal talking about a letter or tweet (I forget) that came to HIM and HIS reaction about this comment about HIM. I am not sure the line you are drawing here.
But I doubt I will ever see it, so I'll just leave it at that.

The point is KM personalize her answer to the question: You’ve also both had experiences with negative fan feedback. Tell us about that.
She could have answered it much like the way Blake did. or something like this:
"I get the backlash and have heard from many, many friends that it's part of the package when s/l's shift and you end up somewhere new playing with new characters that have their own fanbase especially shipping fanbases. But I love my job and I've seen many other actors handle it with great flair and hope that I can come across just as well."
Something like that, giving nods to those season pros who have been in this industry and dealt with these situations time and time again, would do her a world of good not to mention diffuse the victim base baiting type of image she seems to go naturally after.

I realize you don't care but there was nothing in her story invoking sympathy for her poor mom. That's all coming from you, not the interview. Mentioning her mom is going after sympathy, we are all very protective of our mothers and that is pretty much a guaranteed gut reaction.

He never used the term "crazy". He said how odd it hit him that someone would say he needs to be fired instead of Nick needs to burn in hell and how it was confusing how some fans can't separate character from actor. < not personal He didn't respond something like .... My poor grandma!" < personal
yes I know he didn't say the word crazy....I WAS SAYING THE WORD CRAZY, because it tends to be those kinds of fans who confuse characters and actors.
I can't believe you want me to defend the scenario themselves when I was being tongue in cheek with most of it. The point is KM personalize her answer to the question: You’ve also both had experiences with negative fan feedback. Tell us about that. She could have answered it much like the way Blake did. Like this: "I get the backlash and have heard from many, many friends that it's part of the package when s/l's shift and you end up somewhere new playing with new characters that have their own fanbase especially shipping fanbases. But I love my job and I've seen many other actors handle it with great flair and hope that I can come across just as well." Something like that, giving nods to those season pros who have been in this industry and dealt with these situations time and time again, would do her a world of good not to mention diffuse the victim base baiting type of image she seems to go naturally after. She did answer it the same way Blake did.
It's actually pretty normal to bring up how family members see these things. Ali, Molly, Chandler, have all done it. That's just off the too of my head. I think most of them have at some point .

Maybe if she lurks this thread I have given her some much needed advice.
p.s. if you have examples please share. Not to prove your point but I do try to look at other perspectives and why they have them.

Holy cripes. I thought Kate Mansi's answer was pretty professional. Acknowledge negative feedback, acknowledge that it's better for people to have a reaction than not care, provide anecdote to demonstrate the extreme, sum up by saying it's part of the job and it doesn't affect her or her life. How that gets turned into her being whiny or throwing shade or WTF-ever, I will never understand.
Great job on the interview Lysie and Ellie. :)

I am not sure what you mean or where you are getting that I am asking you to "defend the scenario themselves." Obviously, you were exaggerating the grandmother story, but you were also using it as a parallel example to what KM said about her mother, ostensibly to magnify and highlight the core problem you had with KM mentioning her mother. But in so exaggerating, you have completely grafted an intention or secret meaning or motivation or whatever to KMs words that are coming from you, not from the interview. You are reading between the lines, which is your right as a reader, and I get it that we all interpret words as we interpret them. But it seems your biggest gripe is the idea that KM is asking for sympathy for her mother, and your grandmother example was used to illustrate that. And I see no indication of sympathy-garnering in her response, at all, hence I don't make the link to her alleged unprofessionalism that you do. It was an anecdote and I thought a funny one - showing 1) how some fans confuse actors and characters and 2) how actors need to manage their real lives and fictional lives. Blake was getting at sort of the same thing mentioning his inability to understand how characters and actors can be confused like that. Perhaps Blake was going for sympathy mentioning someone thought he should be fired. Awww, poor Blake.

The interview question had nothing to do with that scenario. It's one she picked for a general question on negative backlash. The interview question had to do with negative fan feedback....she gave an example of said negative fan feedback...

The difference between the two answers is that KM specifically said "I got a lot of it with this whole EJ situation. It's crazy." She then went on to elaborate beyond the initial comment and threw the term "ruining a fanbase" in there. By this time, she really should know better than to go there. I think she's been studying the Days PR mantra, "Any buzz is good buzz, no matter how negative."
Blake on the other hand simply said he felt that some people have a "strange reaction" and he didn't mention anything about a fanbase when talking about it. He didn't go on to share why that person wanted him fired, even tho I'm sure that person told him. IMHO, Blake did a far better job of handling the exact same question.
