I was funnied out at first, because the headline said "A good week for Y&R/B&B/GH" - as in all of others except DAYS. But then I see the demos are okay, and although it is slightly down from last week and last year, I was baffled. However, then I saw the 1.6 on Friday.
Now, although that particular day was a little "messy" in storylines, a lot was going on that day. The Sami/Abigail/Jennifer scenes were on, and I think many people would have wanted to see that. However, since it was a summer Friday, with probably nice and warm weather, I think it might have just simply been a case of people not watching television, and being outside and vacationing, instead. That's really the only explanation I have. Consequently, GH also has their lowest numbers on Friday, when they had a 2.0 instead of the other days' 2.2's or 2.3's.
Also, Tuesday had the most positive numbers, even a 2.0. This was the day when the DE board meeting started, and ended with them taking a vote and Sami almost double-crossing Kate. So, did that get people interested? On Wednesday though, the number's went down again.

||I would say that if a bunch of people tuned in on one day and then tuned out the next, whatever happened on the high day did NOT get people invested.|

||DOOL is doing fine and pretty much breaking even compared to last year . All of their demos are up for the most part as well. I will be interested to see how Kristen's return effects them. Hopefully they will improve.|

||Apparently people weren't crazy about Sami finally confronting Abigail, because they sure as hell didn't tune in for it on Friday. Surprising.|

Well it took too long and we knew that nothing would live up to the April 21 confrontation. So far Hurricane Sami is not even a tropical storm.
I did have a good laugh when someone compared the pbp from last year to this year. The show was almost identical day-to-day. Stefano got kicked out of DE on the same Tuesday: on Wed LY EJ told Sami about the takeover...vice versa this year; and Thursday EJami had a big fight both years.

I don't get the numbers for B&B, because I can barely watch for 5 min.

I think the worst thing about Days ratings is how big that divide between Days and GH has gotten. Last year, Days was ahead and the year before that there was only a difference of about 100,000. Now, it's at half a million.

The April 21st episode was GARBAGE, lol. Sami's revenge story has been much more entertaining than that crap-tastic episode that AS and JS apparently spent 8 or 9 hours rehearsing on.
I wonder if these consistently low ratings are going to mean anything in the long run. I guess they're really not terrible, but still noticeably lower.

I think, GH's example shows that it's still possible for a soap to make significant gains in numbers (half of a million and even more) over a year. Creativity works wonders. Of course, some of their stuff fail but as they are telling so many stories at the same time it doesn't affect their ratings too much.

I agree. You have EJAmi, Dannifer, Teresa/Brady basically and everything branches off that. The problem is that none of those core stories are very exciting.
There needs to be something done about Friday ratings. In the age of the DVR, its wrong to assume that people would watch the shows on Friday. A good portion probably wait until Sunday. Low Monday numbers, followed by a low Friday number would be cause for concern though.
I also agree that if people tune in for an event and then tune out before it fully plays out, that means they didnt like what they saw. It seems this was one of those big bumps I'd been hoping for. 2.0 is great compared to the 1.8s they were getting, but it was fleeting.
Overall, this July sweeps has been very lack luster, if you ask me.

I was just talking about the Sami throwing Abby over the railing portion...instead we have a low-key(for Sami) confrontation at the Horton house. No wedding reveal, no video in HTS, no slap, it was all so anti-climatic. Heck Adrienne made it sound more exciting/interesting than it was. And the Abby pity party train is doing no favors either.

I'm just surprised that the big reveal had absolutely no effect on the ratings. Actually, it had a negative effect on the ratings. Although I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. The story had a great beginning, and it's getting pretty good payoff, but the middle was absolutely scattered. The show dragged it out for so long that it became almost irrelevant to the story. I think the way Days handled Sami/EJ/Abby from the end of February until about mid-June really killed the momentum that they originally started with.

||General Hospital has turned into complete camp. DOOL is still producing good old fashioned drama. Yes I would like to see their viewership go up, but they havent lost their nelson audience. Cant say the same for YR|
|daysmemories||Jul 20 2014, 03:53 PM Post #16|
I think because of the writers wanted to extend Ejami for longer so that the last few months the revenge could play out until they both left but honestly they should have had the reveal, then revenge earlier when people were excited than moved on from that shit and do something different with EJ and Sami separately before both characters left.

||How do they calculate the households numbers ie 1.9, 1.8's vs the numbers ie 2541000?|
|GHFan738||Jul 20 2014, 05:02 PM Post #18|
||It will be interesting to see how the pre emption will affect numbers for last week. Thursday probably won't be included, but Friday might be down even more since I know at least GH was posted on YouTube, since it aired in Canada.|
|Yoryla||Jul 20 2014, 06:19 PM Post #19|
Lol, funny you should say this, because I actually just familiarized myself truly and deeply into how it works. So, the ratings point of 1.9 means 1.9 per cent of all the households with a television set in the land (as of 2013 there are about 115.6 million households with a tv) were tuned into that program. However, the second number, the share, means a percentage of all the tv's that were on, not out of every tv altogether.
So, for instance this week's total rating of 2,391,000 should be about 1.8 per cent out of all the households with a tv. Lol. :D

It is interesting, but however I might think they would possibly not take into account either of those days...... maybe they shouldn't, really
