I wish Salmons would write more scripts as I find her to typically have the snappiest dialogue. Neat seeing Mansi way high up on the lists as well. Thanks as always Jason!!

Nice to see that Theresa's ranked #6 overall in the episodes for this year. Interesting how for this month she has the same number of episodes as Ben, Brady and Eve.

Ali Sweeney, episode count hog is back. Oh, how I missed her! NOT!!
If she's basically gonna be on every day until her last episode, I can't wait for the day after Sami exits Salem!

I much prefer when the highest episode counts translate into no higher than 75% rather than over 80%.

I'm totally with you. I have no idea why it's so hard for soap writers to achieve balance in their storytelling instead of allowing five or so characters to continually consume the majority of screentime while the 15 or so other characters are not on nearly enough to satisfy their fans and/or barely do anything in the episodes they're in.

And I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what a DOOL that doesn't revolve around Sami will look like, although I'm worried that her overabundance of screentime will simply be transferred to the Jonas family rather than distributed to all the neglected characters that longtime fans actually want to see.

Not the writers choice. Some actors have 3/per week episode guarantees. Others have only 1-2/per week episode guarantees. For the year, that means you'll see some contract actors 50-60 times a year, others 100-120 times a year, and the ones with the biggest guarantees 150-170 episodes per year.

I feel like they do the guarantees backwards. The more secondary characters should have bigger guarantees because they should be supporting multiple stories. I'm not explaining that well, but I feel like the characters who aren't front and center in every episode they're in should actually appear more days, but just have less actual screen time. I know that isn't how they do it. I think it's how they should, though. Kind of like the first time Greg Vaughan led the monthly episode count and we were all surprised because he hadn't really been doing that much.

I get what you're saying.

I also think that it would be one thing if we had Sami in 4 episodes/week and saw her about 5-7 min per episode. But we get Sami in 4 episodes/week and see her about 15 min per episode. I've said it before that I understand that we won't get people like Hope & Marlena on consistently for days on end and months on end, but it would be nice if they were better utilized within the episodes we do see them in. It's such a waste when they pop up half-way through the episode for 2-3 scenes or when they are seen throughout, but have really short scenes. Balance within episodes is almost more important than balance across episodes, IMO.

Agreed. I do understand that the various actors all have different guarantees, but it seems as if the ones with the highest guarantees are not only in way more episodes, but are front and center in nearly every episode they're in while the characters with lower guarantees have minimal screentime and little or no story. Seeing some of my favorite characters only 1 or 2 times a week wouldn't be so bad if they had a strong presence in every episode they're in, but instead they're usually taking a backseat to the characters that are already overexposed.

My thought exactly. I never would have guessed he was in 26 more episodes for the year than Eric Martsolf.

Jason, do you know if there are any plans in the near future to cast "cousin Joan" or was she just a plot point to give Paige a place to live before Eve came to town? I think it's stupid that Eve and Paige are still living there if Eve has permanently moved to Salem. Then again, look at all the characters living at the Salem Inn. I find it funny that the only difference between Theresa's apartment and Cousin Joan's is a different backsplash in the kitchen. Even Brady's nasty, crusty blanket he covers up with after screwing on Theresa's couch is in Cousin Joan's apartment. I'm sure I sound like a broken record on this board but these sets are so ridiculously cheap! Does anyone who's been on set in the past year know which set replaced the other half of the HTS?

I wonder what's going to happen with the DiMera mansion. EJ and Sami and the children will all be gone. So will Kristen. We hardly ever see Stefano. Chad never seemed to like the place. It's hard to imagine Chad living in that big place all by himself. In fact, the DiMeras don't even own it right now. Will Kate still live there? Do Kate and Sami sell it.? I can't see Days losing the set, but I can't picture who's going to live there now.

Poor Kate has never had a home set to call her own, so it makes sense that they would keep the set for her and use it for all her business meetings and Lucas chats, rather than having her conduct business at restaurants, the town square, and nondescript desk nooks.

The new Chad is bound to be an entirely different "type" than what Casey portrayed. I doubt he will be all DiMera Money/Power Hungry, but his off-screen recovery may have changed more than just the way he looks. Maybe they will finally retcon that his mother Madeline was actually Kate's secret sister, which would explain a whole lot better why Kate was so protective of him when the character first popped up in Salem. Kate and Madeline's visits/chats always seemed deeper than just Two Old Hooker Pals. So Chad could also call the mansion home, along with Lucas.

We also could get rid of the awful Will-Jackson apartment set and move Will and his family into the mansion. And I don't think Rafe and The Ozark Girl are the end run.

So, you plop Kate, Rafe, Chad, Will, Jackson, and whatever stray Kate Kid happens to be on contract at the time all into the mansion. That gives 2-3 storylines a reason to use the set, which seems to be the minimal expectation for set use these days.
