Hate the character of kristen. Have done so since she first made herself known in the nineties. Talk about an overexposed actress. Not only did they force feed kristen 5 days a week we got Susan and however many more character Reilly dreamed up for her. I find it hilarious people can complain a out AS being overused and overexposed when I still haven't recovered from the ED/kristen Blake hour I suffered through in the 90s. Ever again is too soon for me. Love ED as Ashley Abbott though Imagine if Eileen's run in the 90s had continued through until now. Then it would be like Ali's, lol. It looks like they might have been forced into some better balance with Eileen this time, though.

Yes but Ali 's dominance didn't last her entire 20 years. The first 2/3 of it the show was still fairly balanced. And we only suffered through one alter ego in Stan. Haha

We know the show is safe for a certain amount of time so we can root for TomSell's demise without cheering for the show to get cancelled. There would be time for new writers to come in and save the day. I really don't think Tomsell deserve to pen the 50th and I wish it was someone better. I'll admit they did give us the best year of Days in probably over a decade and they can always hang their hat on that, but its time for them to hit the road.
And if they do decide to cancel Days after the most recent renewal is up, I sure as hell don't want TomSell writing the endgame for the characters we love. We will never see any of the male halves of the supercouples again!

Now imagine that you're me and you thought 2013 was way overhyped trash? lol. Yeah, count me as someone who didn't enjoy 2013 on Days AT ALL. Yes, Eileen is a fabulous actress. And I give her props for never phoning it in, but NONE of Kristen's return story made a bit of sense to me.
I too want a regime change on Days but considering some of the ... ahem ... hiring decisions of EPs and HWers of late in the daytime industry I can't help but feel like I'm asking for the monkey's paw. Like when MarDar got fired and we got TomSell. Is it really too much to ask for that we get even a halfway decent team in place, especially as Days approaches a major milestone?

Im all for Tomlin and Whitsell being demoted and Lorraine Broderrick being promoted. I have no doubt she is who wrote most of 2013.

Now imagine that you're me and you thought 2013 was way overhyped trash? lol. I get it. I don't think it was as great as it gets credit for being, but compared to all of the other years in recent memory I give it a passing grade. I think it had some of the best acting performances in a looooooong time. The big moments were really big, IMO, and nailed beautifully by the actors and actually by the writers too. In between and most of the fallout admittedly sucked.
Maybe the fact that Y&R became totally unwatchable and I've never been a B&B fan helped. GH couldn't keep going after their amazing buildup to the 50th so Days was the default best soap on TV as far as I'm concerned.

For me what stands out is that Days' best day is lower than any other soap's worst day. And that is with Kristen's return and Ejami still on screen. I can't see these writers being able to write themselves out the hole they've dug for themselves.

I can't see these writers being able to write themselves out the hole they've dug for themselves. That's true. So what happens in 3 months when these characters are all gone? Unless these writers have some super storylines up their sleeves for the near future, I can see Days in big trouble.

They have 5 months in the can. We know Chad is part of that. Do we know of any other characters? I for one haven't heard anything, but maybe they are getting better at keeping things under wraps.

Ranking stopped being important a long time ago...if it ever really was.

More than new characters IMO, they need good stories. New characters help develop new stories. When you write for the same characters, that's when I think you get use to writing the same way and you end up recycling stories.

Quoting limited to 4 levels deep

I agree, but lately Days has been bringing in new characters and not writing much for them. Instead they keep writing for the same few characters and putting those same characters in their A stories. I am sick of seeing Ej, Sami, Daniel and Jennifer front and center.
