It looks like they might have had an actual increase, but I don't think it could have been very much. The weeks they're comparing to weren't particularly good weeks. May 5-9 HH 1.8 Total 2,434,000 Compared to last year-9,000 Demo Total 632,000 Dailies 1.8 2,414,000 1.9 2,594,000 1.8 2,417,000 1.8 2,438,000 1.7 2,307,000 July 7-11 HH 1.8 Total 2,391,000 Compared to Last Year -59,000 Demo Total 562,000 Dailies 1.9 2,551,000 2.0 2,599,000 1.8 2,254,000 1.9 2,317,000 1.6 2,231,000 However, they're comparing to a different demo than the one I usually keep up with. It'll be interesting to see if these numbers were really worth making a press release about, but this is the first time in a while they've even attempted to spin numbers, so we'll see. |

That was what I thought. Thanks for putting it in number form. Its nice to look at ratings, but anyone knows that you can use whatever numbers you want to show what you want. |

This was a good week of episodes with Kristen coming back to Salem to face her enemies, her scenes with EJ, etc. Eileen Davidson is truly ratings gold for this show. |

So. The interesting thing is the week this is being compared to from last year. This week last year was the second lowest week of 2013. So this week wasn't a bad week for Days but it's not quite the victory that it seems. The total for this week is still below the average for all of 2013. It's weird that the press release focused on a demo, because there's actually nothing at impressive about that. The bigger deal is the comparison to last year. |

Regardless, they are still up in several areas. For a soap that is given hardly any budget at all, that is something to celebrate. DOOL doesn't rely on stunts/location shoots/elaborate sets to produce a good quality show that keeps people tuning in. Edited by ShaneDOOLFan, Aug 22 2014, 07:54 PM.

Actually, it very much relies on stunts. Stunts have been keeping this show alive for over a decade. You can choose to celebrate. That's fine. It wasn't a bad week. I don't want to celebrate because I want new writers. We're not going to get them with these ratings, but the ratings also aren't particularly good. Any talk of "ratings gold" or how well the show is doing, is way exaggerating as evidenced by the actual numbers. They're doing okay. |

DOOL is producing more viewership than a lot of primetime shows which have much bigger budgets. I think they are doing fine in this current television age with DVR viewership. They and GH are the only two shows actually growing an audience this year for the most part. Im not saying these writers are the best but they (as well or Lorraine Broderrick and script writers) have made the show watchable for me as a whole. I havent found the show watchable as a whole since 99 or early 00s at the most and I've been a fan since 1994. |

I'm not excited by these numbers either. Last week they were only up 8k. Now all of a sudden they are up 180k. This week last year must have been way down. |

This is true. They're still not doing particularly well. Look back at the numbers from January/February and you'll see what I mean. It's great for you that it's watchable. It's not for me. I've been watching for a long time too. This is by far the longest I've been uninvested. Regardless of that, I don't want these two buffoons writing the 50th anniversary and eventual end. They already got the chance to do a lackluster funeral for the show's matriarch. I want them gone before there's another milestone. |

Higley wrote Alice's funeral. Im pretty sure the script writers would play more of a role in the 50th anniversary episodes than the headwriters. |

Also, I dont like how you say "eventual end", that's pretty negative. NBC should have no reason to cancel a show that is consistently doing decent ratings for a the budget it is produced under. The network needs DOOL honestly. |

I'm aware. Whitesell was co headwriter and Tomlin was EP. And the scripts weren't my issue. And yes. Eventual end. Whether it's in 2016 or 2036. It's not negative. It's just life. I don't agree that the ratings are as good as what you're saying. I've provided the numbers. If you disagree that's fine, but just stating the opposite isn't going to convince me otherwise. The show is doing fine. Not great. Not even good really. But fine. I've already said we're not going to get new writers with these ratings but I'll continue to hope that will change soon. It won't take much. |

I agree. I think they are treading water. One good wave and they could get washed out to sea. |

Bragging about tying for first place when it's a four-way tie out of four shows is pretty desperate. And boasting about beating figures from a month or two ago is pretty questionable too. |
