Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't be happy to here about a Higley return. But I'd prefer her to TomSell. At least her shit was funny. |

I nominate our very own member, Matt, for headwriter. Seriously, they should hire a bunch of longtime fans who KNOW the show and characters. |

They could at least hire one long-time fan that just reads over scripts for the glaring mistakes/discrepancies that someone on here picks out almost daily. With the writers just sending in scripts from wherever they live, it seems there is no one overseeing the writing to make sure they agree from day-to-day, let alone have any history correct. |

This is random, but as much as people whine about Corday, I really think NBC is the problem. I wish they'd go back to focusing solely on their poor primetime line up, and get their noses out of Days. |

You've got to wonder why this genre has a tendency to hire failed writers. |

You know I hate to say this because it'll likely come true but I would actually not mind Dena back at this point as long as she's alone at the writing helm and has a producer to keep her in check. |

The show is not going to do better as long as Kenny owns it. It is the embodiment of Einstein's insanity definition: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The writers write what he tells them to. He gives the final approval on the direction of the storylines and character development. It's only if he sold the show, or completely took himself out of the picture that Days of Our Lives has a prayer to survive. JMO |

At this point, I don't really expect the show to make me happy no matter who's writing it -- I haven't really enjoyed or been generally satisfied with DAYS on any consistent basis in almost 7 years -- but I haven't gotten the sense that Corday really cared one way or the other about what was being written in a long time now. I don't think he helps matters, but I also don't think he constitutes as much of the problem as he once did. |

Yeah, I don't agree with that. I'm not trying to defend him because I think he sucks, but I don't think they're doing what he says at all. I think they're doing what NBC says and his hands are tied. I think NBC is the one doing what you're saying, and if you look back at each of the times Days has really fallen creatively, NBC was the one who jumped in to make the changes that failed. I don't Corday is even really all that aware of storyline direction and character development. He's a mouthpiece that they allow to come to meetings, but he's not the one influencing writing. |

"Often there are rumors amongst fans that when something has changed onscreen, you, Ken Corday, have stepped in and demanded a change. Has that happened? It’s really a committee decision. I never say, “I don’t want to see any more of this person.” And the writers never say, “We don’t want to see any more of this person.” It’s a committee decision when it comes to how much screen time a character gets. It’s cyclical, so a character will be on for a while, then we won’t see them for a while. No, the time has never come when I’ve said, “Absolutely not. This character has to go.” There have been discussions similar to that among myself, the network, and the writers where we’ve come to the decision that this character has to have more air time, less air time, depart the show, or we need a new character. Is that based on fan feedback? There’s another trap question. We are writing the show right now to air in April. If we listen to the fans, they’re responding to what’s airing now and what was filmed five months ago. We have to kind of go by our own gut and hope and pray that the fans adore what we’re doing." Kenny boy says that it's a committee decision, but it just sounds to me like the scenario where a boss has already made up his mind, calls a meeting for feedback just for protocol but proceeds to do what he planned on doing regardless. I honestly don't think the writers ultimately get a say unless it corresponds with what the higher ups want. Oh, and Kenny doesn't write for the fans, so there's the problem right there. You don't have to quote it for me, lol. I was there. To me it sounds like someone trying desperately to sound like they're in the loop when they're not. And how on earth you're getting that he's already made a decision before this weekly meeting he's talking about, I don't know. What it actually sounds like is that the decisions have been made by someone else before he is a part of any meeting, and if he wants to change something, that's his chance...but apparently he usually doesn't. This interview was confirmed at the Emmys this year. So June. Do you know why it didn't happen until October? Because he was on vacation every time I called. He's not doing squat. |

Days need new writers and for the bosses at NBC to stay the fuck out of the writers way. I still resent those fuckers for killing the PTSD storyline and back-burnering Jack.

But that's just it. NBC and the bosses are in charge, not the writers. They sponsor the show. |

Well, now you're just confusing me, lol. I think the show needs new writers period. However, they also need a switch up of power. Two separate things. Both needed. |

I would not mind if HS came back...I actually like his stories for the most part. I would LOVE if Ed Scott came back as EP though...he produced some good shit IMO. |

I think you have nailed it. Corday isn't great but to me this reeks of network responsibility. It reminds me alot of the Brian Frons days at ABC. NBC has been more involved at Days the last few years than they have in a long time. I think it's ratings surge in 2009 at a time when primetime was in shambles brought NBC back into the mix with Days and now they are pushing their vision upon it. Whatever they and the focus groups want is what has to happen and I am guessing Corday and co can once in awhile have their way on something when the network feels like throwing them a bone. I think Corday's botched reboot in 2012 was the kind of thing NBC needed to get their way. They can hold that over Corday's head and tell him they know best and Corday probably knows that cancellation is a real possibility if he doesn't go along with it. 2014 as a whole has been mind boggling to say the least. Every good thing the show build in 2013 got washed away. Not even 2010 did that. That says alot. Almost nothing made sense. No long-term direction. It's just been a series of random plot threads and only recently have I felt what seems like the start of a foundation for some sort of vision for the show. I think between the major character exits and what seems like an issue of not being on the same page as the network the show became a lazy, uncreative, dull show that is lacking of energy, heart, and soul. You can tell Tomsell and the writers are being held back and they hate alot of what they are writing. You can always tell when a writer is not being allowed to implement their vision. 2013 it seems they got their way more times than not. I have no idea why 2014 they were forced to gut everything when they were firing on all cylinders coming into 2014. My theory is the network had it's own desires or saw things and wanted certain things and focus groups played a role and they then issued directives. Nothing else makes sense. You don't blow up all the things you build up story-wise on your show unless your forced to and that is what it felt like to me. I also feel as tho there was some malice involved too. It almost felt like someone was mad at James Scott given alot of what he got this year and the way things ended with him. And Alison Sweeney's exit, to me, felt like NBC wrote it themselves just to be cute. I am just so disappointed because 2013 was such an amazing year and it was pissed away for whatever reason. The show is lucky it's ratings haven't been worse. As for these numbers, Wednesday was the worst day and it seems preemptions were involved so had Days not been interrupted in spots I suspect the numbers would've been much better. I mean, Thursday and Friday they saw viewership gains so that makes me feel the number would've been ok without the Wednesday issues. I also have to believe Days and NBC expect a period of rough ratings with the big casting losses they have suffered. I think this is like 2008 all over again. Lots of cast turnover. Rough year writing/ratings wise. New characters/returns. Having to start from scratch right in the midst of the Fall/Winter months which is usually when the show really strives for good ratings since the audience can be had easily with more of them indoors. They will look at this like that year. They will spend November/December building things up with a transition story or two to tide them over and will try to hook people on some new long-term stories that they will then build up into the spring/summer months with maybe some big payoffs (along with the 50th) set for next Fall. I think they have a plan NOW but that is the first time I've felt that since a year ago and whether or not the plan is the network's, the show's, or both is anyone's guess. |

I don't think they did expect it. I think if they had expected it, they'd have done things differently. I know Corday didn't expect it, but that may not mean anything, lol. |

The last time the network successfully stepped in and demanded a chance was 2003, it worked then with JER but it hasn't worked since |
