So, now they are truly down. Last week couldn't really be counted for since it was the Thanksgiving Week, the shows were on for only on three days and people were most likely doing a lot of other things. However, the continuity with this week clearly shows that the ratings are down because they are down.

Also, as was with last week, this week also saw every show being down (The Headline for this week's ratings is, of course, a little silly, as is expected, with the "Y&R/B&B up in the Women 18-49. They are, and demos do matter, but when the ratings are down in nearly every other category it makes it seem a bit silly. Then again, as everyone knows, SON is a site that tends to favor Y&R/B&B anyway, with limited exposure on DAYS, especially.) Now, it still does reflect the Christmas season being on the way and people simply not watching as much. However, I also think that at least with DAYS it reflects The Show.

Interesting to see how the trends will continue, also, it will be fascinating to see what, and when, could drive these ratings to the upward swing.

They need a serial killer to run rampant and blow up this show, then they need to fill the void with returning beloved characters. I'm not going to use the term "vet" because by this point people like Rafe are basically vets and has been on the show as long or longer than a lot of people that get requested to return were on it.

I would like to get some new writers in there then have them bring on the serial killer storyline and the returning characters because this writing team just SUCKS and wouldn't do it right. Someone from the outside could see what they were doing wrong (everything) and use the serial killer as an attempt to fix things. I'm tired of people whimpering away out of town for this lame reason or that lame reason.

Agreed -- especially in light of what the show's had since then. For all the flaws during that time, that was really the last period of the show where there was more going on that I liked than stuff I disliked and (particularly at the beginning and end) I was generally satisfied with what I was seeing.

Unfortunately, though, I think the show's problems are so deeply rooted at this point as to make the head writer(s) essentially irrelevant now, which is why I've given up on hoping that low ratings, fan campaigns, etc. will make much of a difference anymore. I think it will take nothing less than a miracle for me to find DAYS good again.

I would definitely take Sheffer back over what we have. There are aspects of Sheffer that were GREAT, and I would hope that that's the Sheffer we'd get, lol. But I'm also aware that he wrote some really crappy stuff, too, so it'd definitely be a toss up. But it'd be better than what we have.

I don't disagree that the show is aimless (and borderline pointless) these days, but not a single returning "vet" or "character" outside of ED (and DeeHall 23 years ago) has spiked the ratings for more than a moment.

We all remember much more fondly the DOOL of the past than it was. Watching youtube clips can pass the time, but try and actually watch a regular 60-minute episode from years past. Most of those clips excise out the pointless/aimless parts or the 20 minutes of the show allocated to some long gone, long forgotten character. There were always dud storylines and dud characters. There were always "payoff" episodes which were entirely focused on the umbrella storyline, but for the weeks/months leading up to to those classic, memorable episodes, there were dud moments and WTF? items mixed in.

I do wonder if the writers just don't have the talent to craft an over-arching, umbrella storyline of any type. Maybe they have been told not to do such a thing. I can actually imagine one of the NBC/Sony suits nixing the idea, for fear that ratings could collapse if the story tanked with viewers.

At this point, the only return that could possibly move the meter is Peter Reckell. Even then, I doubt it would last more than a week or so. Even the much-rumored AS return later this year will likely just pump up a day or two.

Maybe we will all be surprised and the Year 50 Celebration will take off. It's a good sign that NBC and Sony were able to get the show featured in the Hollywood Parade. It shows that someone is trying to get the show out there and publicized.

I definitely don't think the returns themselves are enough. You're right. That's been proven over and over. No matter what the show does, it NEEDS to have writing to support it. They could have a perfect cast and, with stories like what's airing, it wouldn't make a difference. My personal preference would be to have some returns, but to also have good writing.

When I interviewed Corday, he mentioned that. He commented on how returns don't work if there's no story. While that is absolutely true, what he and the rest of TPTB seem to miss is that there's always a story. They may be incapable of writing it, but returning characters not having a story isn't the fault of the returning characters. It's the fault of the unimaginative hack writers. Sami Brady was on this show for 20 straight years, and she always had stories. That right there proves that there "we've run out of story for them" is not a legitimate excuse. Rather, it's a reason why these people have no business being the creative force behind anything.

I think Days gets stuck on this idea that they have to recreate the 80s and 90s with so many of these characters. I don't want them to write Marlena like they did in 1986. That was 28 years ago. She's not 30 anymore. Hope and Jennifer aren't teenagers. It's okay to write them like they are the ages that they are. Amazingly enough, older adults go through trials too. And while a lot of their more staunch fans would probably disagree, they don't have to be the focus (though they could be sometimes) , but they would make GREAT support for the younger generations. They provide a sense of family, and that's so important. When they're not onscreen (at least when their children are still around), their absences are the elephants in the room. I don't think there has been a time in my decade or so online that there hasn't been people asking for many of these same returns. I mean...if they'd come up with a current cast that more people really connect to, maybe that would stop.

If I could marry this post, I would.

I often wonder how the opinion of Jennifer around here would change if she only acted as a supporting player in her kids' stories instead of running around town crying over Daniel and putting her nose in the petty drama at her workplace.

One of the problems with DAYS is they introduced too many women that are exactly the same!! what is the difference between Theresa and Melanie? Serena? Nicole? Eve? Anne? Nevermind that it has once again become the Jonas hour! The only bright spot is the introduction of Paul and as much as I like Chad, I don't care for his storyline.

Y&R continues to go at a snail's pace with very little action. Not surprised at the fall in the numbers.

There are actually lots of differences between all these people if you look at their back stories. The issue is that the show disregards character history in order to tell the stories that they want to tell.

I hope that day is coming soon. I want talented writers so I can actually enjoy the show again. Right now minus one or two storylines the show is awful.
