Would prefer worse, but it's still nice to see the drops from last year. Those drops should start getting bigger as we get into the new year unless something happens to bring people in quickly. Of course the upside is that they have the biggest lost over the previous year, and the smallest gain from the previous week.

Why do you think the gap will get bigger?

Because last year on the first week of January, they had over 3 million viewers. So unless they increase a LOT in the next few weeks, they're going to be looking at drops of at least half a million compared to last year.

Wow. I didn't know that they were ever that high. Don't their ratings usually improve as the year progresses?

Usually? No. Just depends on the year.

IMO the thing with soaps is that their numbers don't drop immediately even if the show becomes as boring as it's only possible. It looks like it takes up to 2-3 months to see the real results. I think, a big part of soap viewers are pretty loyal and are trying to watch even an unwatchable show hoping that it will somehow improve.

So. In the totals, once again, DAYS is up, but so are all the other soaps, so it doesn't really make much difference. DAYS is, of course, down in most of the demos, but then again, some of the other soaps are aswell, and with the differences being minuscule. What might be the most challenging, though, is if the numbers don't really move one way or the other, as in, they aren't going up and they aren't exactly going downwards, either.

When we lost All My Children and One Life to Live three years ago, I thought for sure General Hospital and Days of Our Lives would flip flop for the No. 4 slot each week.

But it's becoming quite apparent that Days is a permanent fixture at No. 4.

The same way Loving was always stuck at No. 12 in the 1980's and Santa Barbara was in the 1990's.

They kinda were in spring and summer 2012. But then beginning fall 2012 GH managed to make huge gains. We personally may like or not like the show under Valentini/Carlivati, but the fact is that they managed to do a great job and GH's numbers improved significantly.
To be fair, it looks like their budget is not so tight as the one Days has.
