Ouch. People might say "Well, they didn't drop." But this is a type of week where static ratings are not good at all. This is the week of the year where every soap always increases in ratings. This show is so damn lucky that they are not up for renewal in the next few weeks.

The show is down over half a million viewers (nearly 200,000 of that is in W18-49) since this time last year....NBC can not be happy with that.

When is DAYS up for renewal next?

Days needs a big profile story like the serial killer story to get these ratings up. There's several characters that could get whacked...

they should be looking for renewal next December I think...so, maybe 5 months beyond what they've already filmed? And then they've written some more beyond that...

There's no positive spin for Days with these numbers. The show is in trouble.

Hope Days continues to tank and major changes are made. I can't remember the last time I've felt so apathetic about the show.

No wonder Days losing viewers, viewers will not waste their time on dull, non-charismatic characters and Days is a full house with it right now. No story can help if viewers don't find the characters interesting.

Makes my heart smile to see all other soaps except for Days gaining viewers after Xmas. Changes, Corday. We need some major changes dammit.

This is pretty bad for Days. I think the casual viewers who come back to the show at this time of the year didn't recognize most of the actors/characters and tuned out immediately.

They absolutely MUST tighten the production schedule. This filming 4-5 months in advance and being unable to adjust storylines is killing them. Unappealing characters that don't resonate with the audience are stuck onscreen far too long, and short-term characters with high long-term potential are gone just as the audience warms to them.

As I've said before, if today's production schedule existed in the 80s, we'd never have had Steve Johnson and Shane Donovan as long-term leading men.

Once again, not surprised...the show is awful and has been for months. Most of the characters are unrecognizable; the stories are boring and repetitive. I can't even in my wildest dreams imagine why these idiots think the audience wants to see most of this shit. It just seems as tho they are just throwing junk out there to see what sticks and then, if it doesn't, they change story direction and make the characters unbelievable.

Days needs a major make over starting with new writers and a shortened production time. If not, I can definitely see a cancellation once the 50th is over.

And unfortunately for Days they have both underdeveloped boring characters, and boring storylines.

They should just shutdown for 3 months, retool, and then restart.

Exactly, and I have trouble seeing Days can go on with what appears on screen in the current situation, I think Days will lose more viewers if they do not start making changes with their characters, as it looks now missing sexy characters with an edge, fire and interesting couples and the characters are a collection duller than dirt, the show needs charismatic characters. I do not know but the Old geeks who control what is put on the screen is completely lost with what attracts viewers. You can say what you want about EJ / JS but he brought something to this show that the other lacks and the show needs more of that type of characters both female and male. Leading characters must have the mysterious X factor and quite frankly none of the leaders has it right now.

If that is the case then the show could be doomed!!

That is no where near enough time for them to turn things around IMO and have it be a positive impact on the ratings...that is assuming they don't continue to drop over the next few months (which are looking incredibly bleak story wise).

This is not good and the show is INDEED in very big trouble...TPTB have no one to blame but themselves...they manufactured this steep decline in entertainment/quality/casting/story completely and systemically on their own.

This is EXACTLY what probably happened. The holidays is a VALUABLE time for shows to potentially pick up lapsed viewers, as this more than any other time of year is when you have the best hope of lapsed viewers tuning in to check things out (they are working less due to holidays, weather is usually bad and most shows outside of soaps are in reruns).

DAYS has let FAR too many recognizable cast members go and have hired WAY WAY to many new faces (or brought ones back that are not universally loved) over such a short time period. If I was lapsed viewer I would have been totally lost if I had tuned in during the holidays.

Whats worse is that these lapsed viewers who do sporadically tune in, will be even LESS likely to tune in again if they did not see anything that they cared about or recognized (this is what ultimately becomes a shows demise...lapsed viewers no longer caring and not giving the show a 2nd or 3rd look).

A high profile story will get DAYS more eyeballs....but no where near what it used to do. The show is truly playing with fire with their taping schedule and this is perfect example of how it could ultimately be their undoing. They seem to have MONTHS of utter crap stories in the pipe...even if they wanted to drastically change...we as viewers will not see those changes for almost 5 months...the show can continue to bleed out all of those 5 months and there is no guarantee those fans will be back.

I agree, but only up to a point. I have very little faith in the current regime dispensing with the right characters and doing justice to a serial killer storyline. I mean, do we really want to see Nicole or Lucas murdered? And do you think they'd even remotely consider widely disliked characters like Melanie, Daniel or Paige as viable victims?

At this point, without new writers, a serial killer story could be a complete clusterfuck and do more harm than good.
