DAYS has always been rated fairly high in Canada.

It has consistently been the #1 or #2 soap in Canada over the last 2 decades. In the last 5 years though, it has been more consistently ranked as the #2 and more recently has dropped behind CBC's CORONATION STREET to the #3 ranked soap. To be fair though, CORONATION STREET airs in the evening, so it is not really fair to rank it among the daytime soaps.

Its ratings in Canada though are majorly down over the last 2-3 years. The show usually pulls between 500,000-750,000 viewers and as you can see the show is sitting at 345,000 for the Jan 12-19 week. It used to be fairly competitive with Y&R, but that is no longer the case, which is sad. GLOBAL is probably not too happy with their current performance.

B&B was dropped from CTV (one of the 4 major Canadian networks) due to low ratings a few years ago...it now appears on CTV 2 which is a lesser viewed channel. CTV also cast off GH a few years before B&B also due to low ratings, but was picked up by CITY (the smallest of the 4 major networks).

In Canada, Y&R and DAYS have always been by far the most successful American soap operas. Soaps like GH and B&B that have performed well in the US, have not translated to ratings success in Canada.

AW was also a very highly rated soap in Canada, in fact it was the #4 soap in Canada back in 1999 when it was cancelled by NBC due to low ratings in the US. The same situation applied to ATWT, which also had favourable ratings in Canada at time of cancellation.

The ABC soaps have always performed the worst here, OLTL and AMC were very lowly rated in the decade before their US cancellations. PASSIONS (due to DAYS lead in) was always rated higher than PC, OLTL, AMC and GL despite being consistently behind those shows in the US. It also beat GH/B&B and ATWT from time to time to sit #3 amongst American soaps.

Back in the day, Days used to be on at 4pm. It was a perfect time because when I was a kid, after school I would go home and watch Days. Most of my classmates did. Now, Y&R is in that time slot.
