Unless they truly decided to be proactive this time, Days' ratings really aren't low enough for a writing change. It looked like they were going to be a few weeks ago, but they're just not. If there's a ratings connection, it has to be last two weeks' Demos that were under 500,000. But they went lower more than once last year.

Im thinking the change has to do with Corday more than anything. Im thinking he wanted a lot of creative say for the 50th and maybe didn't like what Tomlin and Whitsell had planned. I really think Higley is someone he just feels more comfortable with, which is crazy.

That makes me fearful of the stories coming in the next several months. Perhaps TomSell's layout for upcoming story/the 50th were so bad that Corday felt a change was necessary?

Maybe. I'm thinking this may have been the plan all along.

Not bad for Days.
The last time they hit 2'500'000 viewers was in October after EJ's death.

Maybe after 3 years of TomSell, Corday simply felt that it was time to shake things up again. It seems to be a pattern with the show, headwriters don't stay put more than 3 years. Only exceptions were William J. Bell and James E. Reilly in the 90's.

Yeah, it looks like the regime change is related to the 50th.

Maybe TomSell weren't able/refused to write a "bombastic" 50th?

Or was it network (remember that blind item about network interference)?
Is Bruce Evans still head of NBC daytime? Maybe he wasn't happy with the plans for the 50th and demanded change. Given Days are up for renewal short after their 50th, his opinion must be of great importance.

I think he's actually said he likes to change writing teams every three years. I look forward (not really) to seeing "Griffley out/Tomsell in" in 2018, assuming there's a show to come back to.

Actually all of the soaps are in pretty good shape right now even though B&B dropped a little. I'm not very hopeful about this writing change at Days. I think there's too much interference no matter who is writing. A former Days writer said that it was worse than working for a movie studio. When the ratings are low enough, "everyone in a necktie thinks he's a writer."!

Well I guess I don't have to cheer for Days' ratings to drop anymore since the change already happened. So I would be glad to see those numbers increase weekly now.

Yeah. That's basically my only concern with this change. It leaves them open to returning, lol.

Come on Ron, We are counting on YOU !!

It really does seem that the change was coming regardless of ratings... Maybe Corday wanted new writers for the 50th

This should bode well for Freddie/Sonny staying (assuming he wants to renew or stay) as it was a Sonny heavy week.

Yes, I agree with you, quite honestly, it does not matter which head writers who write they are dictated by Corday, producers and network. lol The irony is that there are old men who have power and the last word when it is mostly female viewers, it says it all. sorry but those who have power are completely out of touch and outdated. I have given up on DAYS they have too much mediocre, nonsense and lacks sexy players who have star quality. IMO

Yes Days seemed to be improving slightly as a show lately but yesterday was an absolute chore to watch. And with two storylines having big revelations, it should not have been.
