Scott Clifton and Jacob Young got nominations over Blake Berris? Seriously? I'm a Billy Miller fan but he was on about a month on GH. He doesn't deserve a nomination. They really need to consider changing the lead actor nominations every once in a while so that it at least seems like friends aren't voting for each other. Rooting for AS and CB. Figured I'd move this on over here since this appears to be the official thread for nomination talk... LEAD ACTRESS Nothing. And I mean absolutely nothing McCay did in 2014 qualifies her as a lead actress. Nothing she did qualified her for a nomination. Period. Her name on the list is definitely a waste. Though Tognoni and Wright had the material, I think this year is completely down to Sweeney and West. They're the most deserving. And while the DAYS fan in me wants Sweeney to win her first Emmy, I will be fine with either lady taking home the gold. LEAD ACTOR Geary is winning for sure. Not sure why any other actor was even nominated. SUPPORTING ACTRESS Having not watched Y&R and B&B as much as I do DAYS and GH, I can't recall or even hearing about a single thing Godfrey, Heinle and Hendrickson did that was Emmy worthy. I'm pulling out for a Hughes win, but I wouldn't mind LoCicero winning either. SUPPORTING ACTOR Always a tough category. Especially when you always have powerhouses like Geary, LeBlanc and Thompson pre-nominated for lead. The go-to is always the supporting category. Though I wish Berris had been nominated, I wouldn't take him over any of the four actors that were nominated. Each actor gives their all with material they're given. If anything, I would've rather seen St. John in the lead category. Then perhaps Berris could've been nominated. Regardless, I'm okay with this category. And I would be happy with any of the four winning. YOUNGER ACTRESS I stand in shock that Camryn Grimes did not receive a nomination. A complete joke. Personally, I never saw the "great" performances Banus gave before she left the show that everyone raved about. She still seemed to be the stiff, wooden actress she's been since coming on as Gabi in 2010. None of the other girls are anything write home about either. Pullos deserves no award for her acting. She's just not good. Alderson hasn't been good since she was a child. I guess that leaves King as my pick. YOUNGER ACTOR I'd love to see GH take this one home with either Craig or Richmond winning. I can't remember anything Smith did last year that's deserving of an Emmy. Same for Ehrich. |

I will bring my posts over to this thread too since this is the official one... Sweeney deserved it IMO even if the show and her had to play "the game" aggressively to get it done. Peggy McKay had that one good reel from the Wilson wedding and name recognition and that is all you need. Not sure why Freddie Smith getting nominated over Blake Berris keeps getting mentioned when they were both in two different categories. Smith was younger actor, Berris was supporting. I actually think the supporting actor category would be perfect if Berris was included. Lead actor is a joke. It's like they basically copy and pasted it from last year and replaced Doug Davidson with Anthony Geary. Supporting actress isn't bad. Younger actor and younger actress are weak categories but not bad nods there. Glad for Banus and Smith. Banus should easily win IMO. Hopefully her being on OLTL in the past will help. Casey Moss should've been nominated too. Given how weak younger actor was, it's a joke he wasn't even if he had a better year last year. Drama series was a given that all four would likely get in now that OLTL and AMC are completely out. GH clearly kissed some CBS ass this year to get more nods because the past few years they have gotten screwed over and Days has benefited from that. That is probably why Days didn't get a few more nominations. Now we will see what happens with the voting. Days and AS clearly kissed up to GH to get nominated (the directing gig helped) but what will happen now? Will it be like the past few years where Days clearly was with CBS and GH was left out or will it be like these nods suggest and now GH has gotten more support from CBS and may pull out a few wins? My feeling is that given GH is right up there with the CBS shows in nods, both sides will try to use Days to swing the odds in their respective favor. So, which side gets the Days support and who wins (if anyone) from Days as a result? I think Sweeney will. Biggest surprise to me is Martsolf not getting a nod but given the increase in GH support and Berris getting snubbed as well, it shouldn't be too surprising. Camryn Grimes not getting nominated was surprising too. As Cassie, she was a shoo-in every year. Thought for sure she would get in given the weak nature of the category. This was such a weird year. Outside of maybe lead actress and one or two in other categories, none of those nominated did anything special IMO. And, if you take into account all the soaps, there was very few outstanding performances and outstanding episodes/stories on the year. It was just a horrible year in general across the board. 2015 has been quite a bit better already IMO so that is good but 2014 was just a mess of a year for soaps IMO. Normally there is numerous great performances but not this year. Just consider the fact that there isn't much in the way of snubs. Outside of Berris and Grimes, no one else is being mentioned as snubbed whereas usually there are complaints over numerous snubs. That shows you how bad a year this was. I am really curious to see the reels for all those nominated including the reels for best show. |

If the Emmys werent already flawed enough, Peggy McCay's nomination as a lead actress just a made a full out mockery of it. |

It is interesting that B&B got so little. I would think with JFP at Y&R she would want to make sure GH did not get the amount it did. I am shocked B&B and Days didn't get more because of that reason. These nods are weird. GH getting that many nods after the past few years where it was clear they were locked out of the CBS/Days alliance is surprising. I can't see Days and GH working together so I am wondering if somehow Y&R and GH worked together, which is unfathomable to me because I can't see JFP wanting to vote with GH or aiding them in getting this many nods. She would want Y&R to have the nomination headlines like it did last year. |

I am shocked as well and dont see how GH accomplished this. Unless of course JFP had Y&R voters vote for GH and NOT B&B and DAYS this year. |

Billy Miller was nominated for Y&R I believe. It was only based on his last month though. |

So it was true that all the soaps got nominated across the board. There couldn't have been ties across the board so I am guessing with only 4 soaps now that AMC/OLTL are out, they decided to just nominate them all? Weird. 2014 was a weird year and these nominations reflect it LOL. |

It is so hard to imagine her doing that with the massive ego she has, especially since she was fired from GH and usually holds a grudge. Plus, FV and RC (particularly RC) rub some the wrong way. RC is very egotistical too so I can't see GH playing this game right. They haven't the past few years and that is why they didn't do so well unless they finally learned how to cooperate enough and found a way to work the system like everyone else. If you look at these, it does suggest Y&R and GH had to partner up to accomplish this. Nothing else makes sense. It just is something I didn't think I would ever see especially with the current regimes. |

I agree - i think 100% GH/Y&R voted for each other...just like last year when it was obvious DAYS/Y&R did that. |

It's not the quality of the reels that is the problem. Peggy McCay had a *great* reel with her speech from the Wilson wedding. It was five minutes long, and she knocked it out of the park. The problem is the category fraud. Someone should be stepping in to place people in the proper categories. Per Jason's always-indispensable site, Peggy McCay starred in only 26 episodes during the course of 2014. For the sake of comparison, she was featured in fewer episodes than: Lauren Boles (Ciara), Brendan Coughlin (T), Aloma Wright (Maxine), and Allison Paige (Bev). She tied the Kunitz twins (Johnny). Maybe there should be a 50-episode minimum to be nominated in Lead. Or maybe reels should be at least ten minutes, with material taken from more than one episode. If she was nominated in the supporting category, than I would be fine with her nomination (although I am happy with her Days nomination in general as a Days fan). But as lead, it's a problem. And here's the kicker: Her reel is so good, brief as it may be, that I wouldn't rule out her winning. It's unlikely, but you never know with the Daytime Emmys. |
