Wow, the ratings sure went up after Sweeney's departure. :sarcasm: And Days' hope for a brilliant future is Dena... :mutley: Sorry, but this is well deserved. Yes, of course it is laughable :) I remember the last writing with DH and company and my god  , her Rafe 2 ?, Sami shot EJ in the head ?, Chloe Become a whore? EJ and Taylor? And so on, women were either crazy or pathetic under her pen. Sorry good luck to those who believe that the stories will be so much better? And love stories were over the top with dull characters.

Do we know what ratings are like for the other NBC daytime shows? If Days is doing a lot worse than them, I could see it being in trouble. If NBC tends to lag in general, then maybe there won't be a change. I see mention of The Talk, Price Is Right and The Chew, but never Steve Harvey.

Quoting limited to 4 levels deepDays of Our Lives, I would seriously be asking around if any of the other three soaps are in need of talent ... heck even a telenovela or a web soap. This show is near death.
They must be making promises to the actors. Wally just signed a contract. He was in the middle of a storyline on GH. If he really thought Days was on its last leg, I doubt that he would have walked away.
Wally was recurring on both soaps, so I would think having a contract on one is better than recurring on both.
I realize that he was recurring on both. He was really enjoying his time at GH though. Even if you're offered a contract, you're not going to take it if you don't feeling that it's going to lead to something that you're going to enjoy. You won't want to be tied to something that you may regret. That's why I said that they must have told him something that made him feel comfortable. People don't just take contracts because they are offered. It's also interesting to note that this happened after the writer change. I think it's more about the money than anything else. If his contract on Days guarantees him more money than he was making at both shows combined with sporadic appearances at best, of course he'd sign the contract. Even if Days only lasts another year that's money in the bank, and he hasn't seemed to have burned any bridges back to GH when it becomes necessary.

Poor Days. I'm a lapsed viewer who's been checking back in (um, on the site not the show) lately to see what's coming up for the 50th. Strangely, I was more pulled into what GH did for theirs, and I'd never really followed them.
Same thing here. I watched (and loved) the show as a little boy in the 1970's and early-1980's but stopped watching when I discovered the ABC soaps as a teen. Was considering watching during the anniversary week in November. If I was an actor on Days of Our Lives, I would seriously be asking around if any of the other three soaps are in need of talent ... heck even a telenovela or a web soap. This show is near death.
Oh please, the show is not close to death and it is not going anywhere. All shows go up and down, even your precious ABC daytime soaps have.
I do not know but if a show can not entertain an audience, it's no wonder that viewers stop watching the sum of this is that the ratings drop and the show eventually needs to end. Quite honestly I have no problem seeing that the show disappears considering which matrial they use both when it comes to stories and characters, there's a lot more exciting stuff shown on TV and other soap operas. It's clearly annoying to see what choices Days done over the years with both characters and stories and it says a lot about those who have power ??? they have hired writers who have been a disaster, forcing the characters to the audience who are completely uninteresting not listened to feedback from viewers, and when they had something which was exciting they have written crap stories with those characters. Sorry but too much fail one after another makes even the most loyal viewer finally gives up. No one in here is claiming that the who is amazing and that the ratings are undeserved. I don't think anyone is questioning why people would be tuning out.
The problem continues to be that we have at least four months of these writers. They can kind of afford to sink in ratings right now because they've already made changes. Where things are going to suck for Days is if they can't turn it around. But as has been mentioned, they've always managed to turn it around before, even after hiring previously failed writers. Days has the best luck in daytime when it comes to these things.

But that does not mean that other characters can not be exciting. :)

Days has the best luck in daytime when it comes to these things. I hope they do, but saying they've done it before isn't comforting in this day and age. It maybe to their advantage that there aren't very many options. My concern, like you have said, is that they don't seem to be building it up. They have had things that they thought would be a big draw, that have only shown to be temporary or had no impact at all. Will the 50th bring people in? Of course it will, but unless they have fixed the problems with the storylines, it will be short lived. The major problem that I see is that once again, they are working in a bubble. They may think that what they are doing is the best thing in the world, but it won't be tested for 4 months and by then they will be 6 months out and won't be able to adjust if they were wrong.

The ratings were sinking even when certain actors were still on the show. Frankly, they aren't that much lower now than they were then. If the show starts writing better stories and brings back some favorites like they seem to be doing, I think Days will rebound.

So where would the golden ratings come from? The geriatric couple John and Marlena? Middle aged Bo and Hope, Steve and Kayla, all dressed in 80's clothes? Victor and Maggie? Brady and fill in the blank? Nicole is wasted and I'm personally tired of any storyline she's in because not one leads to anything worthwhile. Rafe? Why is he on the show at all? His only purpose was to break up Sami and EJ and now they're gone and he hasn't been able to fit in anywhere.
Really, the show is so unbalanced and the writer everyone tried to get fired, campaigned to get fired, is returning. I mean it's fun to comment on this failure of a show, it's a joke and we can all laugh at the stupidity of it, but for it to become what it used to be two decades ago? I just can't see it. JMO.

Who the hell is talking about golden ratings? Other than no one. Golden ratings haven't been coming from anyone, including your own favorites. And who's talking about it being what it was two decades ago? The show will likely continue to suck overall, but maybe there will be some reprieves here and there. Maybe not.

If that's the case, why bother? I don't want Days to be cancelled, but it's really just a shell of what it use to be and its not entertaining. Watching just to see some of the old cast members isn't worth it. I really use to love the show. I find it's really sad what it has become.
I guess never say never. When I left in 2005, I said that I'd never be back. Then WilSon came on. Maybe there will be something else like that, but I have no clue what it could be.

......Days is at towards the end. Nov seems so far away. Plus knowing that there's still 4 months of what we're getting now to go. And Corday has repeatedly said, for well over a year now, that Days50 is not about Nov 8, 2015. It will be a full year celebration that BEGINS on that date.
As others have said, DOOL has always had near-death ratings experiences. We are guaranteed at least 16 months of shows and I suspect we will get another 2-year renewal as a 50 Anniversary present.
Days will make it to 60, at which point, networks will be obsolete.

I think the show is awful right now but I think it has been for months . The Jaige s/l is horrible however a few story-lines seem to be improving. I am excited for Kristen's return , I hope Melanie isn't too involved in the baby s/l . I have liked the introduction of Xander & his ties to various people in Salem. Paul has added some life to Wilson though the whole John/daddy thing wasn't needed IMHO. I do think Days is gearing up right now for an exciting May sweeps & it is about time because Nov sucked!
The week these ratings are for was a big vacation time where I live. Most school were off that week could that have had some effect on the ratings?

And Corday has repeatedly said, for well over a year now, that Days50 is not about Nov 8, 2015. It will be a full year celebration that BEGINS on that date. As others have said, DOOL has always had near-death ratings experiences. We are guaranteed at least 16 months of shows and I suspect we will get another 2-year renewal as a 50 Anniversary present. Days will make it to 60, at which point, networks will be obsolete. I thought Days is currently only renewed till Sept 2016 , How can we get 1 yr of 50th celebrations from Nov 8 2015-Nov 8, 20016 ?
Why didn't they just renew them past Nov 2016 ?

They said the celebration will start 3 months before and go 6 months after the anniversary. So 9 months total, August through April. Maybe it will go through May sweeps.

So will Kristen be gone before May Sweeps starts if she's only got 10 episodes?
