It just gets worse and worse for Days. It will be interesting to see if Kristen can help raise the ratings for her short stint. The show is so boring right now.

Didn't Eileen return this week? Two of the highest days that week, she was on. She probably saved them from dipping below 2 million to be honest. This show is in trouble. Is this really their lowest audience in the history of the show?

And usually the ratings sink lower over the summer.

No one should be terribly proud of these ratings....I really hope with some of the changes that Days has and is making that it will show in ratings. Those are horrible!

Wow. One more week like this and Days will be under 2M. Kirsten's return didn't help, but when you know she's not going to stay, it's hard to get excited about it. Maybe if they made Teresa and Brady more worthy of having a child, I'd care if they got it back.

GH was fairly flat. Every week they're pre-empted at least a day. It was again today. If not for that, they might have had an increase in the weekly comparison.

I don't remember the last time that I saw any soap hit a low in total viewers. I guess Days was the last to do it. Holy shit.

I'm shocked. I expected a bump for Kristen's return.
They had a good week when Jennifer found Eve and JJ in bed. I hope viewers will tune in when Paige finds out.

It's just a sign that the major stories of this show aren't clicking, even the one that I think are being written well:

*JJ/Eve was supposed to be a soapy, scandalous, can't-miss story, but it never connected. The chemistry between the actors wasn't there (and these are two good actors). Or at least it should've been given more time to develop by the writers.

*Will/Sonny/Paul has actually been well-done, IMO. I love petulant, insecure Will. Paul is a great addition, and the revelation about John was well-executed (although way too rushed, IMO; that build could've lasted 6 months at least). But it's not enough.

*Brady/Melanie/Theresa/Kristen is a classic outlandish Days-style story. But it's failed, and I think the reason why has been the writing for Theresa. They did not make her sympathetic enough. They've never truly explained why she is so nasty. An occasional crying jag over a vague feeling of "loss" is not enough to make the viewers care about her. If she was at least a little sympathetic, people might root for her to get her baby back. Right now, most viewers don't even care, and when viewers don't care about the mother in a mother/child separation story, that's a huge problem.

*Daniel/Nicole/Eric/Serena. I feel like we've watched Daniel and Nicole argue for 3 months about Eric. I don't give a shit anymore. I barely gave a shit when it started. The writers shit on the fans when they dropped Eric/Nicole like a hot potato after building them for a year. This could have been their money couple in the wake of EJ/Sami leaving. They built them up during their highest ratings. And then they threw them away for whatever backstage/political/idiotic reason, and now they are paying for it. Even if Eric/Nicole get back together, it's too late. You don't waste an entire year of them doing nothing.

*Misc: Where the 'f' is Rafe? Tending bar? What a waste of a great cop/hero. Hope/Aidan are a snooze-fest. Ben/Abby are a little more interesting now that it's a triangle with Chad, but things need to start moving.

Positives: At least Jennifer is interesting again. Victor is great. I'm happy to see people like Lucas and Adrienne get some story. Chad is developing into a charming rogue. And I think the addition of Xander has real potential. Plus, as mentioned, I'm enjoying the transition in Will's character because historically it is logical. But these things are not enough to get the job done.

The new writers cannot get here fast enough. These writers had some great moments. They engineered Kristen's awesome return, the powerful Nick saga, etc. But they obviously ran out of steam, and the show is about to fall beneath 2M viewers for the first time because of it.

These are the kind of numbers that precipitate the kind of change Loving undertook in the fall of 1995.

But I'm not for sure a revamped Days of Our Lives would even last the 18 months that The City did.

It certainly wouldn't be as good as The City was. I loved that show!

On a positive note, Days gained some viewers is one key demo. I hope the TomSell stuff this summer is not too awful. It will be hard to recover if they go below 2 millions for 2 months.
