Wow Days is drowning. I hope the "new" HWs and returns will bring the fleeing audience back.

I think the fans who stayed will keep watching, the ones who left are gone, and the ones who just came the last few years are leaving.

It could have been worse for Days considering how boring that week was.
Still, the demos look terrible.

Sad, but no surprise..the show is terrible. Not only are the stories a mess, but so are the characters, wardrobe, hair, and sets.

Well, the show can't jump on a lifeboat for salvation because of the taping schedule. Days is drowning, and gasping for air, but there is no way for the show to have an immediate fix.

When Higley was fired the first time, it looks like they would have learned. The show had to announce the reset months ahead of time, and although we were glad Higley was gone, and many vets had returned, the show lost a lot of steam in the five months leading up to the reset.

Although the show was in better shape between MarDar and TomSell, I still can't help but think Days could have risen from the ashes quickly had TomSell's trimmed down cast, along with Stefano's and Kristen's returns, aired within six weeks of taping. I dislike TomSell with a holy passion, but even I will admit that their first eight months were decent (meh...as close to decent as you can get in 2013). By the time we saw Kristen, the hype had died out, and we were burned out.

Now, the show is in deep, deep, deep trouble, and we hear that the taping schedule cannot change because it helps the show financially. Well, I don't know how much probable cancellation will help the show, but we are now in a worse fix than I have ever seen this show in, with almost four months of worthless shows to go. Money and profit margins are incredibly important in this industry, but why can't they fix this by shutting down taping, and let the taped shows catch up to a normal schedule. Then, when the show is hitting all time lows, they can adjust things accordingly and stop the bleeding.

Now, I am concerned. It's not just the bad ratings, it's the apathy of Days fans and the lack of enthusiasm about a show turning 50 this year. Why should we get excited when we have been burned innumerable times by Corday, and have five months to wait for necessary changes to be implemented. So, we have a horrific summer ahead of us and a show that has hit a milestone (and can now die). I knew the schedule could kill this show one day. Barring a miracle, it has definitely contributed to it's annihilation.

I continue to be surprised that they haven't dropped below 2 million.

There's always next week. And my guess is the dog days of summer are going to be pretty bleak since this sweeps material is so stellar.

Idk. Tomsell's stuff in the last months of 2012 and in 2013 was pretty good and their ratings were decent. Their stories fell apart after that.

^ My face watching DAYS

I am shocked that the show is STILL where they are considering how unwatchable the show.

I have not watched at ALL in close to 2 weeks now...and before that it was sporadic with a lot of FFwd.

The show is truly at the worst it has EVER been for me personally.

I'm not surprised they aren't below 2. So far this seems to be rock bottom. Content doesn't matter to these viewers. I personally watch everyday on DVR. Sometimes when Friday comes I'll have 2 or 3 episodes built up. I was off today so I tried to watch live and after 11 minutes of Hell I just turned it off and went and did some things until GH Live. Days is really bad. August needs to hurry up.

....Days is drowning, and gasping for air, but there is no way for the show to have an immediate fix.......... the show is in deep, deep, deep trouble, and we hear that the taping schedule cannot change because it helps the show financially.....
The show is not in deep deep deep trouble. It is renewed for at least 375 episodes and it has secured a place on the woeful NBC schedule for another 16 months. Sony, Corday, and NBC all know that the stories will re-set in the fall. They all probably like that idea, knowing that viewing levels for all NBC programming are going to flatline most of the summer. Plus, there is no doubt in my mind that Corday and Sony told NBC to expect a ratings collapse once AS+JS departed. We all know that NBC thought the only performer on DOOL was Alison.

I expect we will see the ratings continue to drop, maybe as low as 1.2. NBC just renewed a whole slate of primetime "hit" shows that have between 4-7M TOTAL viewers. That a daytime show get s 2M is rather remarkable. And that is not taking into account what we dont know: how many watch on DVR, on nbc.com, on youtube, and weekend binges.

I don't pretend to understand the miraculous cost savings of advance taping, though I suspect it has little to do with the actors. Its the entire infrastructure. Perhaps Jason47 knows how many behind-the-scenes staff is employed to produce DOOL. I imagine that it is as many as 2-3X what we see on camera. That's where the money is spent, especially now that actor wages have collapsed to near minimal levels. It's the cost of the camera folks, the union staffing requirements, the staff who do sound/lights/edits. And surely the long advance work has eliminated OT and other costly overruns.

Would the show be better with a 3-month advance? 2-month? Not likely. If anything, it would be even more erratic and slipshod. There's not endless bucket o' money They would be fools to make changes based on the random vitriol of a couple dozen bloggers.

I remember when the show was "in deep trouble" with 2.0 and 1.9 ratings. This is dismal.

The show itself may not be better with only a 3 month advance, but they'd be in a better place now if they only had a 3 month advance. Days' biggest issue now is how much time there is between firing one regime and hiring another. Days isn't really any worse off now than it has been at other times, but they're about to enter a time period notorious for lows, and they've already been hitting new lows. The problem isn't so much where they are. The problem is that they're in danger of dropping to a point that they won't be able to rise back from. But Days is kind of the soap opera phoenix. It's not impossible for them, but they're in a different kind of place than they have been before all thanks to that lag time.

I have A LOT of friends/contacts in both Germany and Australia and they've informed me that they buy the episodes religiously from itunes.

But since Alison Sweeney left, they have lost a lot of interest.
