Deaths like Isabella's have always irritated me. She got a great one, but in the grand scheme of things, she's an incredibly minor Days character. Her death elevated her to some weird untouchable level. She wasn't that close to the people who now talk about her like she was holy perfection and the wind beneath their wings. I didn't dislike her, but she was insanely boring. Dying was the only interesting thing she did, but you'd think sometimes she was the second coming of Alice. I feel similarly about Lexie, but she was a much more dynamic and relevant character. I also didn't think her death was that great, but the way it happened seemed to elevate her to Saint status.

Was it Higley or Tomsell that killed Nicole's second baby at 38 weeks in 2012? I think there was a writer switch around that time? It never made sense that it survived during the Daysaster, only to be killed months later. Tomsell.
I'm pretty sure he was there when she had the 1st miscarriage too. :censored:
Wasn't her stillborn son named Daniel Rafael Hernandez? I believe that they were gonna put Rafe's name on the birth certificate but since he was stillborn he could have been buried as Daniel DiMera or Daniel Walker. Do they do a birth certificate for stillborns?
In Australia you can pay extra to get a different type of certificate that acknowledges the child is born but it's not a birth certificate. Its called a Birth Registration Statement.

TO DJsMOMMY: I thought I was replying to you, but accidentally must have hit the wrong button. This is in response to your question about Melissa and Jack. :) This is from Soap Central's Who's Who of Days Characters re Melissa, which only lists Jack as someone she dated/was engaged to: "Later in 1987, after finding Kayla Brady passed out on the pier, Melissa became the number one suspect in her attempted murder. Harper Devereaux continued to frame Melissa, who eventually fell in love with Jack, who had turned to her for comfort. Jack ran against Melissa's adoptive father Mickey, and proposed to her to better his campaign. When Melissa learned he was using her she dumped him, but not before humiliating him in public. Shortly afterwards, she left town." You get a few more details from Wikipedia: "Melissa eventually fell in love with Jack Deveraux but was heartbroken when he married Kayla Brady instead. Melissa was eventually accused of being behind Kayla's poisoning but was cleared. In 1988, Melissa was one of the few people who stood by Jack after Jack committed marital rape against Kayla. To the horror of her family and friends, Melissa made plans to marry Jack after his divorce from Kayla came through. Shortly before their wedding, Melissa saw Jack with another woman and discovered that Jack was only using her to make himself look good. She called off the wedding and denounced Jack to the rest of Salem before leaving town." The scene you saw was probably her telling him off at the altar. Thank you! The clip cut off before she said anything, but they were standing at the altar, Jack all smiles & her giving looks that could kill.
1987-1990 I didn't watch all episodes because I was so busy with after-school activities. I missed a lot of Justin & Adrienne during that time too.
FWIW, Melissa didn't fall in love with Jack in a vacuum. She became his personal assistant when he was running for political office (around the time he was first becoming involved with Kayla). Melissa had a massive crush on him, but he only had eyes for Kayla. Once Kayla was FINALLY able to break free from Jack, he manipulated Melissa by using her feelings for him to get engaged so he would seem more respectable to potential voters. He cheated on her and she found out just before their wedding. She decided to go forward with the wedding ceremony for the sole purpose of completely humiliating Jack before leaving town.
(Fake Melissa came back about a year later, where her only good attribute was eventually killing Emilio. But that period may be best left in the past...)

Can William Shatner make a guest appearance as Wendy's father? I. Would. Die. Weren't they looking for a "big name" actor to play a role on Days? Drake told someone as famous as Nicholson turned it down because there was too much text. Could be for the role of Petrov.

I would LMAO if they somehow snagged Shatner for a short-term/guest appearance. Don't see it happening, as his tweets haven't been exactly complementary, but stranger things have happened. (And let's be honest, he fee is probably way too damn high for DAYS).

I thought he may have been talking about someone to play his dad. Deidre said something in one of the interviews about John looking for his father (not parents like we usually hear) so maybe this time he finds his father. They've had him find his mother a few times.

(Steven Mines or Clive Clerk). That would be pretty cool if they went with the original cast members from the 60s.

No idea about Stephen Mines. I tried to google, didn't find anything new about him (no new pictures etc).

Enjoyed going through this thread. I just came back to Days after a long absence. You guys were able to fill me in on why John STILL doesn't know who is family is when I thought that all got resolved back in Ireland. They really need to pick a story and just leave it alone for John.

When did we decide that John was Dickie Martin all of a sudden? Not that I'm complaining. We can see him with Julie since she was involved with his father and her son (which nobody acknowledged even though he's a MARTIN also) is his half-brother.

Did Sami ever find out about Kate and Lucas framing her?
Yes, that was the whole reason for the tape storyline in 2000-2001 (which I loved). Sami and Brandon found out that Roberto's ex-girlfriend Angela had a tape of Kate paying Roberto on his death bed to confess to Franco's murder. They decided to lock the tape in a safe if Lucas signed over custody of Will. Those who know the truth about Franco's murder are: Kate, Lucas, Sami, Brandon, Austin, Victor, Nicole and Mickey. That was one of my favorite stories post 90's.
So I guess I loved Langan then. :blulaugh:

A random question; which did you hate more, the Langan era or the Tomsell era. For me it is Tomsell hands down. I remember the anger at Langan back in the early 2000s and jubilation when he was fired, but 2014 is hands down the worse year ever for me.
Well I did hate Langan so much. As for TomSell I despised them so much that because of how they trashed Bo I quit watching totally. And did not return until I read PR/Bo was coming back and that Peter liked the story and was excited. So TomSell won by default as the worst since there was no PR/Bo to keep me staying tuned even when I hated the story. I despised Langan for many of the same reasons I despise a lot of writers from JER on.......too much reliance on gimmicks. Too black and white. Damsel in distress overkill. Maddona (heroines) vs whore (female villains) mentality with women. Men too easily manipulated by the women who were villains. Plot drive vs character driven....and I like the latter. And the very obvious pushing of their own favorites......may as well have hung signs over them, "The HW loves me...." That seems to have plagued many shows IMO. What was Langan's big story? I wasn;t on the boards then, so I have no idea why people hate him. LOL
The main reasons people hated Langan were the teens taking over the show and the horrible Garden of Eden storyline with Austin/Greta. Langan also brought back an adult Brady with un-explainable hatred towards Marlena and generally did a number on the Black family. The soap opera boards absolutely HATED Him, it truly rivaled the hate people have for Tomsell. However looking bad the show really wasn't that bad at all comparatively speaking. The bests things he did imo were evil Lexie, Brandon/Sami, revamping Nicole and Greta's Coronation. I also really liked how he introduced Chloe, but now everyone was a fan of that. Thank you!
Well, those were all my favorite stories of the 2000's so I would've been in the minority on the boards back then. ^_^
Brandon & Sami! They were the 2nd couple I ever shipped (Bope being 1st of course)
I did hate that dumb Garden of Eden crap though. For some reason I always thought that was one of JER's crazy stories.

I feel similarly about Lexie, but she was a much more dynamic and relevant character. I also didn't think her death was that great, but the way it happened seemed to elevate her to Saint status. The way the writers handled Isabella's death was perfect to me. I was never an Isabella fan, despite trying for John's sake, but her death was such a beautiful story of love and courage. That story did elevate her in my estimation, and it led to so many good things.
Jack's friendship with Isabella helped me start accepting Jack (I hated Jack for a long time for the awful things he did).
Vic and John bonded because of Brady.
I loved John as a grieving single Dad. For some reason, the way he carried Brady around so natural and comfortably was endearing to me. I loved him flying Brady like a plane or cradling him like a football.
And most importantly, I loved loved loved Marlena feeling so drawn to John and wanting to comfort him.
I hated the two Romans story because I wanted John to keep being Roman, and I wanted RoJohn and Marlena to be together, and I felt like Isabella being pregnant sealed the deal (so I pretty much hated her). But it sure paid off down the road. I'll never forget my J&M heart being re-awakened with his confession to Doc in 'The Pit' when they thought they could die. He loved Isabella, but he lost everything when Marlena walked away with Roman. I was like 'YES!', I knew it! Of course, that was followed by 6 years of incredible J&M stories like the Affair, MB, possessed Marlena, Aramid, Paris, etc. I still don't know how I survived all those years of angsty goodness/frustration.

Not sure where to put this out the NBC recap for Wednesday said Fynn flirted with Nicole at dinner and Daniel told him they were engaged. It also said Justin and Eve made love. The Daniel stuff must have been cut and we saw Justin and Eve on the couch but I didn't think they indicated they made love.
Those recaps are off compared to what aired sometimes. It's a bit odd how much has been cut since the new regime. You would think they know to stick to 37 pages of script at this point. There must have been a Nicole/Fynn/Daniel scene cut because none of them spoke a single word! (Except Fynn meeting Eve)
I wonder if Monday will pick up on Thanksgiving Day still and we'll see some of this stuff play out.

NBC's recap:Spoiler: click to toggle Wednesday, November 25, 2015 S51 E48 | Air Date: 11/25/15 | 37:26 | tv-14 More Info WEDNESDAY - 11/25/15 Season 51 Episode 12726 Air Date 11/25/15 TV-14 It's Thanksgiving Day in Salem but many residents - Hope, Steve, Kayla, Victor and Caroline among them - are still grappling with Bo's death. Hope returns to a hungover Steve and tries once more to get him on board with seeking revenge against the people who held Bo captive and tortured him. Steve reminds her Bo died of a brain tumor, not his injuries, but she won't be deterred. Later, a worried Steve confides in Kayla. At the pub, everyone tries to honor Bo and find a way to move on and celebrate the day. Belle arrives with Claire - having rushed to Salem after hearing the news about Bo. Eduardo invites Rafe and Gabi to share Thanksgiving with him. Rafe stiffly says he and Gabi have plans to feed the needy in the town square. Gabi asks Rafe to allow Eduardo to join them. Rafe relents, but isn't pleased. Later at the square, Gabi asks her brother to give Eduardo a second chance. John and Marlena stuff their worry for Sami to host a Thanksgiving meal for Paul and Brady. Paul gives John an important clue regarding his search for his parents, revealing Eduardo Hernandez also has a connection to the school John attended. Once they're done with their meal, Brady and Paul leave, and John begins his research - but he and Marlena get a surprise visit from Belle. They're thrilled to see her but get a shock when she reveals she and Shawn are on the verge of getting a divorce. Justin brings Eve to the Kiriakis home for Thanksgiving - and a grieving Victor doesn't like it. They clash, and Eve offers to go. Justin, making a stand, decides to leave with her. They go to her place, but when things heat up, Eduardo arrives to talk to Eve. Justin is called away, and Eduardo pitches an idea - he wants to establish a music program honoring Paige and would like Eve to run it. She knows he's trying to buy her forgiveness and tells him she wants no part of it. Later, Justin returns... and he and Eve finally make love. Back at the Kiriakis home, Daniel has invited his friend Fynn, who flirts good-naturedly with Nicole. Daniel wryly reminds him he and Nicole are engaged. Days of our Lives will be preempted on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27, 2015. NEXT ON: Monday, November 30 - In her quest for vengeance, Hope receives a vital tip from Steve. http://www.nbc.com/days-of-our-lives/episode-guide/season-51/wednesday-112515/12726
