I don't think they ever explained how Hope went from Ernesto to Stefano. What they did show in flashbacks from Maison Blanche is Hope in bandages recovering from the magic trick and they gave the impression Stefano rarely ever let her out of his dungeon. She was very eager to have contact with people besides Celeste when Salem came to Maison Blanche. Princess Gina was not part of the Gina of 1990-1994 equation. |

I skipped a lot of 2015. Can someone give me a rundown of what Kate was talking about when she said that Justin hired Paul? |

After Justin's affair with Elsa was revealed, Victor removed him from the Dubai stuff and made him stay in Salem and made him the head of the Mad World division. That meant he was working with Kate. This was after the reveal of Will's affair with Paul and, as I recall, Justin wanted to hire Paul in order to keep him in town (Justin was pro Paul/Sonny). Kate was against it because she wanted Paul gone (she wanted Will to work things out with Sonny). So, Justin ordered Kate to hire Paul. I think she went to Lucas (who was at Countess W. now) to try and get him to steal Paul away from Mad World and send him out of the country or something, but Lucas rejected the idea. Paul was ultimately hired by Mad World to be a spokesman for a certain line of cologne or something. I'm both impressed and disgusted with myself that I remembered all that. |

I've been watching DOOL on and off for the last 20 years. I have skipped some years here and there so some characters I remember and some I don't. Can someone explain what the deal is with Tony/Andre? I faintly remember Tony in the earlier years. Is it supposed to be 2 different people or the same person with multiple personalities??? |

Two different people. Andre WAS a cousin who had plastic surgery to look like Tony. Now he's apparently Tony's half brother. The history has been retconned a few times, but the Tony we saw in the 90s and early 2000s (up until 2007) was apparently Andre. |

Question for those who were watching in the 80s. I know that JER was famous for really knowing how to milk a story if that meant dragging things out. How was the pacing in the 80s, was it faster than the 90s or about the same? |

I thought the pacing in the 80s was good. Nothing seemed rushed or dragged out to me. But then I thought that was the height of great intertwining umbrella stories. I started watching daily in 1983...I watched on and off before that because of school/work. But in 1983, after one look at Bo Brady I bought my first VCR. I loved the Salem Slasher which involved everyone in Salem on the canvas. Bo and Hope were the younger potential lovers along with Melissa and Pete for a little, 18 and 21 or so. Then there was Roman and Marlena, Chris K, Stefano had returned, Eugene and eventually Calliope....Doug, Julie, Mickey, Maggie, Mrs H and Doc H, Shawn anCaroline, Abe, Tony and Anna.... The Salem Slasher involved everyone, eventually revealed that Stefano was not dead and was framing Roman. And then it led seamlessly into more stories. Whereas Bo and Hope were secondary to Roman and Marlena in the Slasher story, as it wound down it led us into more of Bo and Hope, their backstory as childhood friends via Mrs H (Roman used to cut her grass and would bring little Bo along where he loved her donuts). Eventually Kim Brady came back from Europe and got involved with Shane who was posing as a butler or something to get the goods on some of the bad guys. Victor had come back from Greece shaking up Caroline......because one of her children was his.....and we got their back story. Patch came to town seeking revenge. Bo's paternity cause Kay to come home..... I loved back then how story led into story, how characters of all ages interacted; how the protagonists drove the stories. For me, DAYS went downhill when gimmicks and antagonists became more important that the leading men and women. When the romantic heroes were outdone at every turn by the villains; when reality had to be suspended in every story to the point of ridiculous. I think that despite the short uptick that over the top silliness gave the soaps in the 90s, in the end, they lost their core...their heart and their soul. While the last few months have not been at that level, I do think JG tried to give the show back some of its core, its heart and soul with families driving stories. Don't know how long it will last. |

I think it was just different. There were some elements that were dragged out for a long time, often things like a couple's first kiss or sleeping together. There were some story points that were dragged out, too, like Andrew's kidnapping. But the show didn't intentionally tease out things like who was at the door ("It's you!") and some of the other staples of the JER days. I think there were a lot more miniarcs over the course of an episode or a few episodes that gave the viewer a sense of beginning-middle-end that made it easier to wait for the big arcs to unfold. There were also some reveals (like Steve stalking Kayla in Cincinnati in May being revealed on New Year's Eve) that took a long time to happen, but the storytelling in between didn't pound it into the ground. It would be dropped for a while, and then come up again at the right time. Edited by granolagirl, Dec 8 2015, 05:57 PM.

Isn't Tony back to being the gardener's son? That would mean they aren't really related at all since Daphne never married Stefano. |

That's what I remember most. While I had favorites, there were also a lot of good stories at the same time, with payoffs or hooks throughout that kept you watching and sometimes ecstatically happy before being brought down to earth. Though I can remember cursing at the TV plenty too. Just when you finally thought your couple was getting together, something would happen. I don't know that I could go thru it all again like I did then, but it was nice to enjoy so many characters, Tom, Alice, Mike, Caroline, Shawn, Vic, Eugene, Calliope, Anna, Laura, and the Alex Marshall's, Savannahs, etc while enjoying the 'Super Couples' who also interacted and were often part of each others stories while in their own. |

Just thought of this after hearing baby Thomas' middle name: Does Joey have a middle name? I looked on Wikipedia and found nada. I was just curious if Jack somehow got worked into his name too. I know he's named after Steve's mom, but that's all I know. |

I'm not sure. They've not consistent with that. He mentioned that back in 2007 I believe, but Andre recently implied a biological connection. |

Definitely not Jack, and probably nothing. When he was named, it sounded like his first name wasn't even Joseph, because Adrienne already had a son Joseph... it was "just plain Joe." |

Thanks. I kind of thought any "Jack" inclusion would be super awkward given he and Kayla's history... Well, maybe they'll give him a middle name eventually. Didn't they let SN pick out Steve's middle name after they decided to make him long term? I thought I remembered reading that Earl was a family name or something. |

I like to fanwank Joey's middle name to be Marcus. In fact, that should have been his first name. |

Yeah, I think it's after his grandfather. I always thought Joey should have some reference to Shawn in his name, since he had just passed away a few months before he was born.... even just giving him Brady as a middle name would have worked. |
