Quoting limited to 3 levels deep .........I thought Sonny would be in Salem because of CHABBY wedding....now I am not sure. Maybe to sell TBD to his parents I guess....I would want him to run Titan!
I don't think I could ever buy Sonny as a big businessman. It just doesn't fit his personality. Then again, it doesn't fit Brady's either, but he's apparently had an undying devotion to Titan for years...
What bugs me most about Sonny is that he's supposedly very worldly, but he wasn't written that way at all. He was just written as a nice guy from a small midwestern town. Add that to the fact that he's a Kiriakis, and I just don't understand the writing for him outside of the fact that Days felt the need to play it "safe" with their gay characters. I don't know, I mean we sort of got hints at Sonny's pre-Salem lifestyle around the time Paul showed up. It's a shame they never explored that more. And I disagree about them playing it "safe" with their gay characters. The Will/Paul/Sonny story was proof that Days wasn't afraid to push the boundaries with gay characters.

Could've sworn it was after they came in and told everyone how the surgery went and John said, "I'm gonna call Paul" then.
He did. Just checked the 1/6 transcript: http://tvmegasite.net/transcripts/days/older/2016/trans-da-01-06-16.shtmlACT FIVE:John: [Sniffles] Theresa: Shouldn't we know something by now? The nurses' station-- we could ask. Victor: I don't think we should bother them again. Theresa: Yeah, but it's been so long. John: It's over? Philip: How did it go? Kayla: The operation went beautifully. Theresa: Oh, thank God. Kayla: Brady is in the recovery room now. His new heart is beating normally, he is off the respirator, and he's breathing on his own. John: Oh, that's great. Kayla: Yeah, pretty soon they'll move him to the ICU. John: Oh, thank you, Kayla. And be sure to thank that crack surgical team for us. Kayla: I will. Now, we just have to keep Brady's body from rejecting the heart. Maggie: Well, that's really good news. I told Melanie I'd call her when it was over. Victor: Well, I'll go with you. Maggie: No, I'm really okay. John: Can I see him? Kayla: Not yet. Let's wait till he gets moved to ICU, all right? John: All right, yeah, I'll call Paul, tell him his brother made it through the surgery. Kayla: Okay. And roman's waiting to talk to me, so...thank you. Theresa: Aunt Kayla? Kayla: What? Theresa: What are the chances that Brady's body will accept the new heart? Kayla: If we see any signs of his body rejecting it, we'll adjust his medications. Theresa: All right. Kayla: But he's not out of the woods yet. I know how scared you are. Theresa: Hey--listen, thank you for everything that you've done for him. Okay, I just know it's gonna work. It has to. ACT SIX:Victor: How's Melanie doing? Maggie: About like I am. She's very happy for Brady. She still loves him. We talked about... how many years that we spent not knowing that Daniel was a part of our lives. But we both agreed that we were very lucky to have had him for as long as we did. Paul: Is there any more news? John: Hey, kid. No, not yet. Kayla: I just saw Brady. Theresa: And? Kayla: And he's breathing well. He has no fever. Those are the signs that he's accepting the new heart. John: So, so far, so good? Kayla: So far, so good. Belle: Thank you for the update.
he comes in looks kind of at Theresa in acknowledgement...and I think goes over and sits or whatever near John and them..something like that. He may not have had a line (meaning it might not be in the transcript) but he's definitely there during that weird time lapse during the surgery. Maybe he left afterwards and that's why John called him.

Maybe he left afterwards and that's why John called him. I didn't remember seeing him in Act 5, and he's not listed in my scene log, but I just went back and checked the tape to be sure. He is not in Act 5. That's the scene that starts off with 55 seconds of no dialogue and the clock/passage of time. There's 6 people pacing around (John, Victor, Maggie, Belle, Philip and Theresa). After 55 seconds, Theresa finally speaks...
John: [Sniffles]
Theresa: Shouldn't we know something by now? The nurses' station-- we could ask.
Victor: I don't think we should bother them again.
(Then Kayla walks in and gives update on Brady...operation went beautifully; etc... John says he'll call Paul).
Paul shows up in Act 6 for his only scene in the episode.

Ah, well, we can only hope some good stuff is coming for him.
I don't think anything is. I've gotten to the point where I'm expecting an announcement that says Paul is leaving town sometime this summer, probably with Sonny after he leaves again. I think so too.

Paul shows up in Act 6 for his only scene in the episode. It's strange though. I found a summary of the episode on another site, and their recap says he was in that scene as you remembered:
In the waiting area, family is pacing, sitting.....John, Belle, Maggie, Victor, Philip, Theresa, even Paul arrives. No words, as they fidget, look at the clock (we keep seeing the clock hands moving thru the hours).
I watched the scene now twice and looked for him both times and did not see him.
I'm going to upload the scene so it's not just me not seeing Paul!

I mostly remember because it really irritated me that no one bothered to mention him until after everything happened.

I think if Sonny was coming back for the Chabby wedding, Chad would have him as his best man instead of Rafe. I think he asked Sonny when he was planning on marrying Melanie a few years ago. .........I thought Sonny would be in Salem because of CHABBY wedding....now I am not sure. Maybe to sell TBD to his parents I guess....I would want him to run Titan! I would LOVE Sonny running Titan!

Considering his really bad business choices before on a much more minor scale, I'd hope they'd at least claim he's gone back to school or something before that.

I'm not going to watch that, but then was there another scene where he didn't speak but was sitting there? I remember people complaining about it, and I can picture it.
Actually never mind. I don't really care, lol.

I might have managed to confuse him with John, lol.

The only thing I had listed for Paul in the 1/6 scene log was that scene in Act 6 when he walks in after John has called him. Before I uploaded the video of the Act 5 scene a little while ago, just to make sure, I skimmed through the entire episode to see if he showed up earlier in any scenes, and I did not see him. I've been doing the scene logs every day since 1990, so I try to keep as accurate a record as possible. That's why after Lysie had mentioned it (and it was mentioned in another site's summary), I wanted to see if I accidentally missed him in the background. But, after checking a little while ago, I still do not see him.

True. However, I do think they played it safe the first few years. I think he had a much more distinct personality when he showed up. Then they decided to start up the "caretaker"-ish friendship and eventual relationship between he and Will, and while I obviously still enjoyed him, I think most of what made Sonny "Sonny" flew out the window in favor of propping Will. I think that's why I've remained interested yet frustrated for those several years. To me, there's a good character under there somewhere, but he gave nearly his whole self up to his relationship, only to have it broken. I liked that Paul reminded him of his other life, even if part of it was painful (Paul being closeted). While I basically hate (with a passion) that he left Ari because I felt that was out of character even despite his inherent wanderlust, in some ways it makes sense that as as soon as he's away from Will, even when he originally meant it to be temporarily, Sonny kind of reverts back to wanting to go abroad and do big things.
I don't think that was done on purpose, mind you. They just needed to write Sonny out without killing him. But still.

Early Sonny was my favorite Sonny- his joking around with Chad, his relationship with Victor, flirt master Brian. And he used to smile all the time. Making him Will's pseudo psychiatrist and lovesick crusher was the worst thing they did- it completely dismantled him. There used to be something authentically "Sonny" about him- the Sonny who hung out at "The Spot" with his friends (who we never saw again) and flirted with guys, who stood up to T and anyone else who bullied him for his sexuality, who wore shirts other than plaid shirts :drunk: . I wish Wilson had just remained friends at the most.

Posted Image

I was frustrated that all Sonny stories were about Will but I liked the couple until they decided to get married. After that, I really didn't like them anymore. I hated that Sonny was Will's doormat at the end. I wanted him to take his freedom back and ask for a divorce but he was never allowed to.

Ok, here's the scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxQCQ3OWdZA this is not the scene where Paul arrives, was it supposed to be?
