Now that I'm over my initial relief about which stories this spoiler doesn't relate to, I'll comment on the Chase-Ciara thing. I hate it. I hate everything about it. If this was a show that could be trusted to handle things well, it might be a different story. MIGHT. We're not going to get any acknowledgement that Steve was raped. Eric STILL hasn't gotten any help for the fact that he was raped, that it was recorded (like Steve) and played for his whole family, that it got him ousted from the priesthood. It's worse because rape has become a fallback story for the writers. I don't know if anyone here has read anything by Seanan McGuire (aka Mira Grant), but she has a fantastic bit on why she won't write rape into her characters' stories. Things I will not do to my characters. Ever. Edit: The comments are stellar.
Totally agree. If you're going to go with something like rape, you don't use it for shock value, then just drop it like it never happened. You need to follow thru with the beats and get some sense of closure with it for the victims, and imo, the villains should pay. Days doesn't even seem to know the difference between the rapist and victim lately. Days just needs to stay away from it. I don't trust them at all after Eric.
The fact that this upcoming event hasn't been promoted at all gives me hope it isn't being used for shock value.
I hope so too because the graphic nature of some of Ben's actions is not what I want to see play out here. This could be another time that a cut scene(like the Rope kiss) would be welcome.
I just checked. Voldemort quotes Thaao as saying: "Some of the things that Chase will do leaves even Andre in shock"
was this an article online
"Voldemort" is a way of saying "the magazine that shall not be named", due to copyright problems. This was in the issue available in stores in the USA on Friday Feb 5th.

Ben's actions? Do you mean Chase or are you saying you don't want to see graphic scenes like they showed with Ben? Ben's story was really different. He was a killer and I think the graphic scenes were meant to show just what a monster he is. Rape between two acquaintances is a different scenario obviously. From my soap viewing experience, they usually just show the start of the rape, cut away, and come back at the end.

I do think they might be more conservative in this instance because of the characters' ages. However, as others have pointed out, the Marty gang rape on OLTL that Josh co-wrote was quite graphic for daytime standards. I tried to watch it again yesterday since it was being talked about, and I only made it about half way through before it became too much for me. (I will say that they story was well-written and acted, though).
Just because TPTB think she's good, doesn't mean she really is. I can think of at least one other actress who TPTB were enamored with, but who was just unwatchable.
Yeah, I didn't say that it meant that. I have heard from someone that she does a great job with this material. I have trouble buying it because of what I have seen of her myself, but I'm going in with an open mind.

I was 12 when this story aired and at that age I actually watched the rape scene on loop with sad music playing on my walk-man. Now that I think back that was odd of me to do. I totally cannot get through the scenes now.
Unless they push this Andre thing even further and are embracing Chase turning really bad, I envision Chase will fall more into the Powell department (guilt eating at him) than the Todd department (further embracing being a demented p---k).
I do really wonder how this will impact the whole Andre vs Hope thing once it comes out as THE kids are or were completely innocent in this whole thing and shouldn't have really been touched

I can't see them doing something like that in this instance.

Yeah, I think Chase is going to be eaten alive by guilt. I really hope they don't go the attempted suicide route, though, because that would just be more dark on top of dark. (Didn't Corday say something once about never doing a suicide story because of something that happened in his own family?)
The sex scenes I've seen on Y&R recently were hot and tasteful. They don't have a lot of sex scenes on Days anymore, which is not necessarly a bad thing because the recent ones we got were not good. Hope and Aiden's first time was so weird, Serena and Eric looked like soft porn recorded on an old VHS, Paul and Will was disturbing because of Sonny almost walking on them, Ben and Abby had a weird one on some bad pop music, Daniel and Nicole in the shower looked nasty and what is there to say about Eve/JJ? The Chabby sex scene in the DiMera garden was probably the only good scene we got on this show recently.
Love scenes on this show are really nonexistent or between the 'wrong' people. I agree the last good one was the DiMera garden.
I also like that on Y&R we see a lot of marital sex. I think they rarely show that on Days, it's usually single people having sex or someone cheating on their spouse.
Good point. Days is also really low in married couples. D&J, Victor and Maggie. Is that it? I guess J&M and S&K are sort of in that boat.

This is why I don't want to watch this show anymore. I'm only hanging out with DAYS until the character I do like (who they have destroyed at least to a certain degree) is gone. If he comes back I'll come back, but that is just loyalty for the character on my part. They have destroyed all of the characters I cared about and Chase is just one more to mark off the list.
Characters the show has destroyed in my eyes: Chase Aiden Eric Nicole Will (though he was destroyed by Tomsell) Hope (though I don't really care about her) Chad (because I don't really see him as an antihero and would rather see him closer to who he was under tomsell) Steve and Kayla (characters not destroyed, but the Ava story is stupid) Brady (though his destruction has been a long time coming) Theresa (She's a better bitch) Family relationships (Eric/Brady, Eric/Caroline, Eric/Theresa - that was something Tomsell did well)
Family relationships is the one that has me really shaking my head. Brady has no interaction with his Dad or Marlena. Its all but forgotten that Theresa is a Brady. I want to see her in more scenes with Eric and Caroline. Lucas should be shown more with Jennifer.
The lack of anyone with Eric is startling. I mean Roman, John and Marlena were there the first few days. But where's Belle, Theresa, Caroline or any of the Brady's. Even Brady should at least be interacting with him.
I remember on one of those cast photos in the pub, Ciara had pink streaks in her hair. At the time everyone was assuming that she was acting out because of Bo's death but now we know. Seems obvious that she's going to keep this a secret and end up acting out.
After watching yesterday's episode, I'm even more worried than before about Chase/Ciara. I thought she only had romantic feelings for Theo but it seems like she also feels something for Chase. In the dream, they played it like she was torn between the good boy and the bad boy. I will be disgusted if down the line, Ciara ends up in a relationship with her rapist and if the rape is going to be an obstacle to their love story. They can keep Chase on the show and redeem him if they want but I never want Ciara to be in a romantic relationship with him after that.
I was expecting Lauren Koslow type streaks not a bad 1980's music vixen weave.
Ciara being attracted to Chase. That is so abrupt as we've seen her not being interested at all for Dena Higley's run. Along with other things in this thread of story, it actually screams to me that Josh Griffith took over a bulk of the Rafe/Hope/Ciara/Chase/Andre story last week. They're playing that she's somewhat attracted to him for her to blame herself a little as is a thread of most rape story lines. IMO, they didn't have to do that but I can see why they did that.
Yea, its all her hair. Dyed, crimped and teased up 80s style. Im actually looking forward to see how VJ does with this heavy material.
edited to add: Although it may be a clip on extension or something because I doubt she wouldve wanted to dye her hair in real life, but my point was, that there's no one standing behind her
In reading & pondering....I'm beginning to have a glimmer of hope that
1. VJ will be able to handle this material. If she can, great. If not re-cast.
2. That the writers will FINALLY address what "RAPE" is, and is not. To Ciara, her family and - almost as importantly - I want to see Chase really realize what he's done & to whom. ALL the raw aftermath needs to play out. If they can do it this time, fine - never EVER do another rape storyline. If not...well, same thing. Enough is enough already.

Unless Abe is going through something and we haven't heard about it yet.
