Have to say, it is really interesting reading these posts. I am curious as to how it is so positively known that Dena writes this, and Josh writes that.
And please, I am not being sarcastic, or snarky, I just don't get how it is so widely known and confirmed.
It has always bugged me about Brady, in his casual t-shirts & jeans, ran Titan via his cell phone, from home. As to Philip, while he seems to have a more corporate way of doing business, he still does it from home, restaurant tables, etc. but uses a laptop instead. Yes, he needs a haircut. Martha Madison tweeted a while back that the actor did get one, guess we won't see it til Spring, though.

For me it's not really confirmed who's writing what. But Higley tends to repeat old patterns and there's pretty clear signs with her writing, like who she focuses on and how she writes (Rafe, Ava, poorly written women, things like that)

Josh seems to be repeating some things he wrote at Y&R so that's a clue and he also brought a dark tone to the show in the fall that seemed specific to him. He also gave some ideas in the interview last summer when he talked about writing for supercouples.

Go Shawn! I like him a lot and think he deserves better right now. I'd be happy for Belle and Shawn to eventually find their way back to each, as long as she actually is ready to commit to him at that point. She's cheated on him too many times for him not to at least try moving on with someone else.

Now, if it is Lani, I'm not super thrilled... but hey, he has to start somewhere, right?

I also am looking forward to Dario's debut. I hope that he's a decent actor. I have grown to enjoy the Hernandez clan the majority of the time that they're onscreen and am excited to see them becoming more established on canvas again. I think some diversity helps with potential pairings and everything as well, since we've seen with the younger generations that they're becoming increasingly related to one another!

Speaking of Hernandezes, they really need to create an actual story for JJ and Gabi and get him out of his sister's business. His "I am so angry at your decisions, Abigail" act is getting stale. I think JJ & Gabi have great chemistry, but need something going on besides endless dates filled with small talk.

If I had to guess Josh wrote a lot of the SK stuff and Higley wrote the brainwashing. Yesterday seemed very ominous and Joshish for them.

And by the SK stuff.......do you mean Steve/Kayla, or Serial Killer. Sorry, but I do get confused with the constant usage of initials. Mean no disrespect.

Since the original response was referring to Chabby, I'm pretty sure "SK" in this case means serial killer.

While I agree that some patterns (in regards to who is writing what) can be identified, it sometimes seems to me that our Josh love is a little bit similar to the show's Daniel love. Lol.

Well. For one, Dena was put on a leave of absence. That's a huge indicator of something right there. Two, she did a facebook chat before the anniversary where all she talked about what the stuff from after the anniversary to now. Three, the show took on a completely different feel and stories changed abruptly in December. Four some of the most recent stories are direct copies of previous Dena stories. IMO, that's enough to make an educated guess. I don't actually have to guess, but I also don't think we need any further proof than that. ;)

The best I could find is a summary of the interview. Is this the only at length interview he's done so far re:DAYS?

Quote:

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asks him what his first steps after being hired. Griffith says that Greg Meng and Ken Corday approached him after he left Y&R. He said he had never worked with Dena before so they met a few times and learned they were on the same page. The firing/hiring happened very quickly. He had to just dive in and reacquaint himself with Days. He has always been a fan and always watched the show so he knew what was going on.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed then asks if he had any ideas already in place when he came in. Griffith answers that he has ALWAYS wanted to write Days. He started watching in the late 80s/early 90s, and he loved it. He is very happy to that he is finally able to write for the show.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed wanted to know what it is about his vision for the show that had KC excited and how it will hit the mark. Griffith tells them that they wanted to center everything on the core families and the characters more than anything else. There were so many new characters that had come in under the old writers so he and Dena immediately started thinking on their own that they needed to bring back the old characters that everyone loved.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asks how they even began looking at a show that was in such a bad place and decide how to fix it. Griffith replies that with any show he went into, he had to ask himself what the show had that he wanted to see, what would he want to write, and what would bring back that feel that it used to have. Then he just ran with it. Once you get an idea of where you want to go, you just look at where they are at that moment and figure out what you need to do to get it from there to where you want it to be. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes it is not and you need to blow things up.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed next wanted to know how this serial killer story is going to be different than those that Days has done in the past. Griffith told them that they have the opportunity to tell an intense and suspenseful story and can show the audience that they are not playing around. People are going to die, and the audience is going to be shocked and not expect it. He said it was a chance to grab the audience and say, “Guess what??? We’re not pulling any punches!” He thinks that the surprises they have coming in the story will have the viewers gasping.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed says that knowing the 50th was coming, did it make it easier or tougher to come up with story line. Griffith says that it was actually easier. Ken had a great idea to do the Bicentennial Celebration and tie the history of the town to the story so it made it easy. They didn’t want to just bring on all the veteran characters to just say Hi and then go away again. They built a story that gave them a reason to come to town and be involved, not just a stunt with flashy material, the Bicentennial is grounded and story driven, not just lip service for the 50th. They brought back all the people in a heavy duty story line that will spin into even more stories. They are now writing for March and are still playing off the story they had in place for the 50th. They are sure the fans will be very happy with what they have done.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed wanted to know what he felt the show needed to focus on to improve. Griffith says that the word improvement is subjective. They looked at it and asked themselves what they wanted to see and said that they wanted a show that was heavy on romance, mystery, suspense, and action. He says those are all things Days has been known for in its history and has done it better than anyone else. He says that they wanted to make it an incredible place to be for an hour every day. It isn’t about what the previous writers were doing wrong, it was about what they were going to do to fix it. What he and Dena came up with was exactly what Corday wanted too.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed wanted to know if there were any characters that were already there that needed more screen time and who they were. Griffith said that everything came out of the stories they have written. Once they decided on what they were going to do, then that decided who was going to be brought to the front. Many of the core characters had been pushed aside before and they wanted to fix that. Teams come on and have their faves and they want to write for them, there is only so much time in a day that you can fit in so a lot were being pushed to the side. They focused on the stories and pulled from the show’s history, so it naturally brought those characters back to the front and pushed the newer ones to the sides.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed wanted to know who will be seen. Griffith says that Steve and Bo are back. Andre, Shawn, and Belle are coming. Philip is back. Ava is back. Lots of good things are coming.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed wanted to know whether it was important to put Bo & Hope, John & Marlena, Steve & Kayla all back on the front burner. Griffith says that it was absolutely important. They are the top three couples that made him fall in love with Days. There is such exciting, emotional, action, suspenseful, romantic stuff with those three couples and there is no way to go wrong with them in the front.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asks what Griffith can tell them about John-Paul Lavoisier as Philip. Was he casted because Josh & Dena knew him from OLTL? Griffith said they casted him because he is fantastic and they knew that he was from both working with him, but not at the same time. They were saying that they needed to bring Philip back and Josh was looking at Copyright Violation/Post will be removed and seeing all the info on Winterthorne. He saw JPL’s picture and said that he was Philip.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asked what he wanted the fans to know about how serious he was on restoring Days. Griffith says that he wants them to know that he is so entrenched in it and so determined to make it a show they want to watch and love again. He says that it is an iconic Days but one that will be made for the 21st century. They are taking everything that they loved about Days and pushing it forward. It will be faster moving. The look, the feel will be much more “prime time” like. It is the best of all worlds and he thinks the fans will love going on the ride.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asked if it felt like an eternity waiting for their stuff to air. Griffith says that it has been challenging. They are going with their instinct. He is the kind of writer who loves being down on the floor, watching the tapings. He loves being on set. So he is seeing the dynamic. He is seeing the stuff that is working and that so far, everything is working. The actors are taking it to new levels and it is exciting to watch. It has been frustrating that it is not on the air, but he is seeing the results and he never imagined it would be so good. He feels the fans are going to agree with him.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asked how he would describe his style..does he like meeting the cast and getting to know them. Griffith says that he has always liked meeting his cast. He says the cast at Days knows what they are doing, what they have done and where they come from. Hearing that from them is necessary to being able to write for them. They know the history of the show and their characters so who better to listen to? He likes getting input from them and they discuss things and tweak things together. He loves being in the thick of things and getting feedback and he feels the actors like it too. It is a collaboration.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asked if Josh has had any “pinch me” moments since he wanted to write for Days for so long. Griffith says absolutely! He was talking with Mary Beth Evans once and he was saying to himself in his head, “This is Kayla! I am talking to Kayla!” He was in love with her for 25 years and there he was talking to her.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asks if Josh feels that knowing Days so well helped in his approach to writing and Josh says definitely. The other shows he went into he learned to love as he was writing. With Days, he was already in love with so he didn’t need to learn everything in order to fall in love with it. It’s a dream come true for him.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed wanted to know if there was anything he could tease about upcoming story. Griffith said that the whole story building up to and surrounding the return of Bo will be huge and the serial killer story will connect to that story and then it will spin out even more. Future story will rock the DiMeras, Kiriakis, and Bradys for a long time and will affect others throughout Salem.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed then asked if there were any lessons learned from Josh’s time at other soaps that he is using at Days. Griffith says that first…don’t bring on a ton of new people! To stay true to your vision and keep the fans happy. That is hard to do because there are so many fan bases out there, you can’t please everyone. He feels though that when you center the show within the show they all grew up on, keep the core that they know and love, you will be in good shape.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed wanted to know if Josh has any goals set for the show that he wants to see. He says his goal is to never allow there to be a lull. To keep the stories flowing into one another, all crests and no drops. That and to stay true to what they are setting out to do, which is to make the show the best on the air. He wants it filled with romance, action, and suspense….the Hitchcock of daytime TV.

Copyright Violation/Post will be removed asks if he feels pressure to live up to any hype and to that he answers that he tries not to think about the pressure or he’d be going nuts. He never wants to take it for granted or rest on his laurels.

To finish up, Copyright Violation/Post will be removed wants to know how Griffith would describe Salem under him and Dena. Josh says it is the most dynamic, exciting, romantic city on the planet. They are coming at us with everything they have. Be prepared, it’s going to be the ride of our lives!

I can only believe that Abby has agreed to elope with Chad. JJ knows about her moving to DiMansion and their wedding. I wonder where all of this JJ opposition is leading to?

Chad thinking Andre killed Stefano. Well, he is definitely capable of that. They're just trying to make it more dramatic when Chad realizes the truth.

Good for Shawn, but Lani shouldn't make Belle jealous. She's a snooze (assuming she is who he has a date with).

I'm so here for the Eric and Jennifer spoiler!

These sound pretty good to me. Hopefully the rest are too.
Yes Lani is a snooze but Sal is very beautiful they just need to quit writing her so boring. Maybe Shawn can liven her up

She is very pretty I agree. And so far she's the only other woman in town he can date since he's related to everyone in town!! But there's also Chloe who's on her way.

Could you imagine if they kept John as a DiMera? Claire would be related to every single character on the show lol even Chad!! Except the Hernandez clan but there's still a familial tie because of Ari.

I feel like he's brought on a ton of new people, with more coming.

Fynn
Summer
Eduardo
Mama Hernandez
Woman returning with Mama Hernandez
Deimos
Lani
The character that Alla Korot will be playing

Add that to his long list of returns and the show has a different feel to it. Too much change too soon, IMO!

The complaint about new people might be true if any of these characters were driving front-burner stories. But they aren't. Lani and Fynn have barely been used, Eduardo has been almost entirely a supporting character, and four of the characters you mention haven't even hit the screen yet to know what kind of story they have. Deimos is the only one to have been given significant story right off the bat and he's being well-received.

The major stories on the show have centered around long-term characters, even if some of those characters have been off the screen for awhile. That isn't the same as bringing in a bunch of new characters, centering story around them, and shoving vets/long-term characters off the show or into the background.
