Thanks for all your replies.

So then, according to Jason47, Peter Reckell aired 8/28/15-12/2/15.

Bo's official first air date (as promoted) was Tues Sept 8th.

I remember Friday Aug 28th was just a one-minute (or shorter) scene of Bo lying on the prison floor at the end of the episode. Not sure if his face was shown, maybe just his tattoo -- but enough for viewers to know it was Bo.

But then Bo wasn't seen until Sept 8th -- and he began airing more regularly after that.

Bo's death was Friday Nov 20th, and repeated Monday Nov 23rd.

PR's scenes as SubconsciousHope were were after that -- through Dec 2nd. Thank you for clarifying that PR spoke during some of those scenes.

I suppose I could say that PR's scenes aired Sept 8 - Dec 2nd
(With Aug 28th as a glimpse of his body).

Although he was technically a "U/5" for August 28th, I suppose he got contract pay for that.

What matters is what episodes PR got paid for.
If his contract dates were for the episodes that aired Aug 28-Dec 2, then he did air for more than three months.

Peter Reckell - 37 episodes (according to Jason47).

So I guess he either had 13 weeks*3 episodes/week guarantee =39 episodes or the guarantee was lower and he was paid for additional episodes.

I hope we get a press release that Days has been renewed today and not another "alarming" report from Jamey Giddens.

I don't mind JG's articles about the BTS stuff but a press release would make my day.

Is it true that Days hoping to snatch Rebecca Herbst? Is she really leaving GH? I always thought she would make a great Cassie Brady recast.

I think she would be awesome as Cassie and have her and Deimos together! RB and VI would have amazing chem together!

Uh oh!! I'm getting scared!! Is this reliable? Is DAYS getting a renewal??
I really don't think there is a cause for concern. Serial Scoop will not be reporting on this :)
Man you are putting yourself on the LINE with this comment...you literally have 3 million fans in your hand right now hoping with all hope you have the correct scoop. :scared: :whee:

Im still pretty sure Days is getting their renewal, Im barely worried about it. But just out of curiosity, if they were cancelled rather than renewed. How many months would they have to write an "ending" so to speak? Like to wrap up the show?
Well its rumored their contract is to air through September, so unless they wrote a last minute ending, they have already wrote through their contract.
I am sure if they are cancelled that a good two months worth of story would be thrown out immediately and a proper ending would be written in time for filming.

Only 4 soaps left people!! 20 years from now it's likely that they'll all be gone. It's sad. It's a dying genre. But I have complete faith that we will get a renewal.
Well we if you look at the last few years, it looks like the genre has reversed its dying trend in a way....there was a soap cancelled every year but the last 3-4 years none have been axed....that indicates to me a leveling off of this trend.

2008 - PASSIONS (NBC) axed
2009 - GUIDING LIGHT (CBS) axed
2010 - AS THE WORLD TURNS (CBS) axed
2011 - ALL MY CHILDREN (ABC) axed
2012 - ONE LIFE TO LIVE (ABC) axed
2013 - none
2014 - none
2015 - none
2016 - none (so far)

GH has cut its budget and shooting schedule over the past few years as well, although it's not as dramatic as DAYS. I think they shoot five shows in four days, or something like that (?).

I think in the end, NBC is going to keep lowballing the license fee, even when DAYS increases its ratings year over year. At some point the show just won't be able to do it.
I think they can totally do it....but they would need to seriously purge the cast and bring the contract based down to 15-20 actors only.

Could DAYS survive as a subscription show?

Would $5.00 per month be too high?
I'd pay way more than $5 to be honest.

That would mean cutting more than half the cast since they currently have 40 contract players, I don't think they would need to go that far.

Probably not. The ratings aren't bad anyway. What probably hurts them is the fact that there was some headwriter turmoil in the first place. Doesn't bode well for stability.
I just looked, viewership is the lowest of any soap...ratings lowest of any soap.
When there are only 4 soaps left, that doesn't really matter anymore. DAYS is competitive with GH and has the highest majority of younger viewers of all 4 soaps...DAYS is also the most DVR'd soap and most watched online....it has some ground in those aspects.

something matters and I've seen lots of shows canceled for this...lots

My beloved show...and you can guess what that is was once tried to be canceled for lack of viewership, they truly believed no one was watching...the viewers got outside the main building wrapped around it, stood in big lines raising hell...of course we know how that turned out.
Okay. But in a world of four soaps it doesn't matter. We've seen proof of that with the other soaps. The ratings aren't amazing now, but they're also not bad. The most important thing is whether or not the show is profitable, and at the moment it still is. I'm pretty sure the decision has already been made, but any hang up would have been on how to keep it profitable, not how to get it to #3 so that GH would now be 4th. Because ranking isn't relevant.
Exactly..DAYS could be more profitable for NBC as the 4th and last ranked show than GH is for ABC being the #3 show...it is all about profitability, both in how much DAYS makes for NBC and how much it makes for Sony....DAYS is highly distributed worldwide and online (and additionally in the US outside of NBC) so Sony is making money off the show for sure.

I guess advertising is up
Up, as in total ad time? Yes, that did change, but only slightly in recent years. The second-half insert was removed and the theme cut in half so NBC could get an extra 30-second spot (or two 15-second spots) per episode.

In 1997, "Days" episodes ran 40:11 and there were 18:00 of ads.

Now, it's 37:14 and 20:57 of ads.

So they've added 3 more minutes of ads in the past two decades.
That is 6 extra 30 sec commercial spots x 5 days a week = 30 extra commercials a week....that certainly has to make up for some of the lost ad revenue.

Technically less cast members doesn't necessarily mean less cost (at least not directly), as actors are paid per episode. Less characters featured in an episode, more lines/minutes for each character in an episode and lower pay rates could save them money. (this would mean lower contract guarantees for actors, though).

I recall Bart asking "Mr. D, Would you like some Frosted Flakes? They're grrrrrrreat!"
Caroline did that frozen chinese food one, and I think Chelsea also did one for Midol.
I suppose we'll never hear someone exclaim "Caroline, that was the best clam chowder I've ever eaten!" and Caroline replies "It's not mine. I've been serving Campbell's Chunky Clam Chowder for the past 3 years, well, with my mind going and all."
Well she advertised frozen chinese food IN HER own NON chinese food restaurant...soo I wouldn't be too surprised.

Why Melissa specifically? I've found David Cherrill scripts usually stick out as being the most bland, basic scripts. There's hardly any flair to what he churns out and if the word "bitch" is used its most likely from his script. Jeannie Marie Ford while better than David will present conversations that feel disjointed oftentimes. I've found myself frustrated with her dialogue. She'll have a character saying things in a way I don't feel anyone would say at the time. Despite Melissa Salmons favoritism toward all things ejami, (mute point now) I've found her scripts to come across pretty intelligent. So, I'm curious why you'd want her sacked.
I find her scripts overrated, back in 2013 there was this big hype that she was the best writer to ever hit Days. Aside from that, she annoys me. There have been time periods when she has acted like the show was called "EJami of our Lives". She hangs out with people who hate the show.

As for David Cherrill, he has really stepped up his game after Josh and Dena replaced TomSell.

My favorites are the Cullitons.
SO MUCH THIS!

Melissa Salmons is the most overrated writer by a fucking mile...her scripts have been pure shit for a while now. If there are writers out, I hope she is one of them....her and David Cherill and of course Mark Higley.

WOW. Was not expecting this news at. all.

EDIT: I still don't know how to feel about this, though. It sounds like NBC wants them to switch so that they can have more influence on the writing. I don't like the sound of that.

Also, if the current schedule is saving them money, how in the world would Days be able to go back to a normal schedule if the budget gets cut again. I don't know. It almost sounds like NBC is pushing for this to make it harder for Days to stay afloat. No wonder Sony is holding out.
Ha.
NBC is not stupid. LOL

Now they just have to make a 5-month hiatus and then do like GH lately - 3 weeks taping, 2 weeks hiatus.
Not sure what would be the unions' position though.
A 5-month hiatus in production would be DEVASTATING for the shows crew....plus would that means contract actors would be paid for 5 months of NO work?
