Are the "episode guarantees" set for the taping period or the airing period?

If an actor is guaranteed an average of 3 episodes per week over a year ...
is that a year of taping or a year of airing?
They've been taping about 13 months of air shows over every 12 month period, so my guess would be is it's for the taping period, not airing period. We can use the Alexander Bruszt contract as an example. It says he is guaranteed a minimum of 13 episodes at $13,000 for each 13-week cycle (up to 4 cycles). To me, that would mean he's guaranteed to appear in 13 episodes over a 13-week taping period (not airing period).
Man that is one shitty salary...thats less than office work. That's like a little over $4000 a month....gross I assume....pretty horrendous.

But..... we heard that Kate Mansi left in December but according to Billy Flynn her contract was up several months ago, and she agreed to stay on the show only to wrap her story up. It's a little bit confusing because she started in December.
Checking the DR archives, Kate Mansi's signing was announced here on 12/1/10, so she must have signed a few weeks earlier in November 2010, and then stayed an extra month until 12/16/15.
I'm not sure if BF has his facts right, but he said Kate stayed an extra 3 months.

BILLY: Well, I think there was a process to her leaving. Once it was decided Kate was going leave in December, she came to me and told me. Kate had her reasons. I believe it was a really hard decision for her to make. I believe prior to that, her contract was up in September. The way they were going to round out the story didn’t work, or she didn’t feel right by having it end that way. Kate stayed another three months, I believe, which was really great of her. It was very selfless, because the story we were able tell in those three months was crucial, amazing, and heartbreaking.

I think AB also gets a stipend for his living expenses as part of the prize package.
I agree while $1000.00 an episode sounds great if you only work 4 x a month that is not much
to live on in LA lol

SO MUCH THIS!

Melissa Salmons is the most overrated writer by a fucking mile...her scripts have been pure shit for a while now. If there are writers out, I hope she is one of them....her and David Cherill and of course Mark Higley.
I agree about Melissa. Her scripts have just...not been good since the writing switch. If yesterday's episode was any indication, I think she's guilty of writing a lot of character propping dialogue. Super annoying. I was just looking a Jason's site, and I'm surprised that Melissa Salmons has only been at Days since 2012. I thought she had a longer history with Days.

If they go by "last in, first out," here's how the longevity shakes out. (Some of these writers have left and come back, but if the base it on when they last came back...).

Newest hire - oldest hire:
1. Mark Higley (2015)
2. Danielle Paige (2015)
3. David Cherrill (2013)
4. Melissa Salmons (2012)
5. Jeanne Marie Ford (2012)
6. Carolyn Culiton (2010)
7. Richard Culiton (2008)

So, say they cut three writers and went by longevity of their last hiring date: Higley, Paige, and Cherrill would likely be the ones to go. I wouldn't mind losing Higley and Cherrill, but I think Paige has been pretty solid with her scripts.

Now, say they want to clear out all remnants of the hires during Tomsell's tenure. Then, Cherrill, Salmons, and Ford would be the more likely candidates.
I thought Mark Higley was a writer at Days previously
I seem to remember him back in 2007 or 2008

He was, and I referenced that in a general statement. What I listed is everyone's most recent hire dates.

I think he was fired back when they threw Dena out on her ass or I imagine he probably quit the show.

I wonder if he stuck around through Dena's "leave of absence." I'm guessing yes, but it'll be interesting to watch the script credits once Beth's name pops up.

Jeanne Marie Ford's return to "Days" was actually 10/24/08, but started her most recent run as a dialogue writer on 8/16/12, so she actually has the most seniority among the current writing staff.

How much do the DHs, KA, MR, TP etc make? What about the younger ones like KM, BF, MM, JPL, BB?

I would love to know especially for some of the vets that are
rarely on .

I think I read in a soap mag back in the 90's
that Missy R was making $1,000,000. a year.
I know when Tomlin took over in 2008
salaries were cut by a lot.

Their salaries aren't ever really discussed in detail.

However, we know that the SAG-AFTRA minimum rates per episode are:

Principal (actors with more than five lines): $950 per episode
Underfive (aka U/5: actors with less than five lines): $413 per episode
Background (aka Extra, actors with no lines): $150 per episode

And we know Alexander Bruszt is making just over the minimum at $1,000 per episode.

He's barely making more than a one-day guest star. The minimum is $950, so that's the least amount anyone can get, like the landlord last week and the delivery man this coming Friday.
