GH has cut its budget and shooting schedule over the past few years as well, although it's not as dramatic as DAYS. I think they shoot five shows in four days, or something like that (?).

I think in the end, NBC is going to keep lowballing the license fee, even when DAYS increases its ratings year over year. At some point the show just won't be able to do it.
It really could go either way when the first of these two shoes drops. I don't feel either shoe is going to drop this year but when it does... will DAYS be squeezed too much in the end? will GH never learn to squeeze quite enough before it's too late?

I really don't think there is a cause for concern. Serial Scoop will not be reporting on this :)
Thank you, Michael!
Is it unusual for a soap to be told to stop writing if it's likely to be renewed, though?

I don't remember that ever happening before. Of course, I'm not always as in the know as others, LOL!

I think Days is in a unique position since it writes and tapes so far in advance.

So while I've never heard of this happening to a soap before, I can understand why it's happened in this case.

I doubt an endangered soap opera has ever been 6-8 months ahead in writing OR anywhere close to that. They're at more than twice the speed of a normally paced soap in terms of writing and taping.

Could DAYS survive as a subscription show?

Would $5.00 per month be too high?
No. AMC & OLTL couldn't survive on Hulu and Hulu offered a lot of other programming for it's per month fee.
But Hulu and the soaps weren't making enough ad revenue. Too many people had to have a cut of the pie.

I'm proposing DAYS and only DAYS without commercials for 5 thirty minute episodes per week with full opening and the hourglass scroll credits.

I remember an announcement was made a while back about an online venture that Ken Corday was/is involved with.

I personally think it's Sony's way to say they mean it.( most likely re: the licensing fee).

No television transplant is going to survive on funds from subscription alone. Most people are not going to spend 5.00 a month on one program. People don't much like paying 10-15.00 a month for over 1,000 movies and television shows.

Interestingly, Serial Scoop *is* reporting the DaytimeConfidential piece about Rebecca Herbst,
with the comment "stay tuned".

Is it freezing?

Or the story? Hope has miscarried her and Bo's baby due in part to the stress of Bo's undercover jig with Victor. Bo wasn't there or reachable when she miscarried. Bo decides to kidnap her for her an impromptu honeymoon to make up for everything. She spends most of the kidnapping trying to get away from him. At this point he has her cornered around this hot air balloon. He pretty much forces her into that against her will. So Bo tenderly takes her face and Hope takes that moment to attack "her kidnapper".

I don't mind Becky Herbst. I used to like Liz, once upon a time...if she is coming...pending renewal, no doubt, I wish she could be cast as Sarah Horton. We've all been waiting for her to be cast for years.

I'd RATHER hear that Days is renewed.

Ah, that makes more sense. I seriously hope she ruins Dan's reputation. :blulaugh:

What worries is the crap that's playing now hurting any thought of a renewal

Luckily for them, somehow and someway this crap is getting them the best stretch of ratings they've had in a very long time. I don't know how long that will last for but for the time being. I doubt anybody at NBC is paying attention to the quality of the actual show.
